Introduction

Deployment Considerations

FliteDeck Pro supports a commercial aviation business model. Jeppesen releases FliteDeck Pro for Windows to operator EFB administrators.

The term upgrade refers to the act of installing a later version over a previous version without first uninstalling the previous version. When you update from previous versions, FliteDeck Pro preserves saved flights and any user-defined waypoints that are part of the route.

NOTE: If you uninstall the app before you install a later version, you lose all saved data.

Initial Download and Data Updates

The FliteDeck Pro app and data, including subsequent data updates, requires 2 to 6 GB of available storage capacity on the device. The variability in the storage capacity requirement is related to the size of the terminal charts coverage area.

What is Preserved When Upgrading

When you upgrade FliteDeck Pro from one version to another, the app preserves the following information:

• Customized JeppFD global settings under user control, including registration and account information

• Saved flights

• User waypoints

Connectivity Considerations

To download updates, FliteDeck Pro requires a reliable Internet connection. The connection can be wired, wireless, or cellular. The time necessary to download and perform data updates depends on the speed of the Internet connection and the size of the data coverage area.

Allowing Location and GPS Access

FliteDeck Pro requires your device location. If you turned off location services on your device, you can turn on this service for FliteDeck Pro using the Windows privacy settings. Similarly, if you turned off Bluetooth on your device, you can turn it on for FliteDeck Pro in order to use an external GPS device.

To turn on location service for FliteDeck Pro

1. Tap the Settings button or All Settings in the Action Center.

2. Tap Privacy.

3. Tap Location from the Privacy menu.

4. Under Choose apps that can use your precise location, switch Jeppesen FliteDeck to On.

To ensure that FliteDeck Pro is visible to an external GPS device

1. Tap the Settings button or All Settings in the Action Center.

What’s New

FliteDeck Pro 8.5, update 1

FliteDeck Pro 8.5, update 1 was released January 13, 2017.

In this release, a change was made to make it easier to display revised terminal charts. You can now switch from the future-effective chart to the previously effective chart from the badge on the chart, without going to the Airports list.

Additionally, issues related to the display of revised terminal charts were corrected. See Issues Resolved for more information.

Switching Between Available Chart Versions from a Chart

When a chart revision is available, FliteDeck Pro displays an amber effectivity badge on the chart. A badge also appears on the Airports button for the airport. The badge appears 24 hours before and after the chart effectivity change. You can switch between chart versions within this 48-hour effectivity period.

FliteDeck Pro displays chart revision text in the chart list and on the chart itself (with a chart revision badge) whenever a revision exists for a chart.

About Invalid ETP Entries

If FliteDeck Pro cannot validate the ETP alternate airport or a latitude or longitude coordinate, the ETP/ETOPS popover displays an alert:

• Not Found if the airport identifier is not in the database

• Not Valid if FliteDeck Pro cannot validate the coordinate

The ETP symbol appears on the map as long as coordinates are valid. If the alternate airport identifiers are not valid, the symbol appears without any airport identifiers.

About ETP Alternate Airports

The ETP alternate airports do not appear in the Flight Info drawer as alternate airports. However, they do appear as alternate airports in the Airport list when you tap the Airport button.

You can enter the same airport as an ETP alternate and as a flight alternate. Any changes you make to the flight alternate do not affect the ETP alternate, and vice versa. For instance, deleting a flight alternate that is also designated as an ETP alternate does not change the ETP alternate. Change ETP alternate airports from the ETP/ETOPS popover.

Entering an ETOPS Entry Point (EEP)

To manually enter an ETOPS entry point

1. Open the Flight Info drawer.

2. Tap ETP.

What’s New

• When you save the flight, FliteDeck Pro saves the points along with other flight information. A Plotting Info link appears in the list of saved flights when you save a flight with plotted points.

• When you load the saved flight, FliteDeck Pro loads the points with it and the points appear on the enroute map. Any subsequent changes overwrite the previously saved points when you save the flight again.

• Plotted Points created in one theme are visible in all other themes. For example, points created in the Low IFR theme are visible in the High IFR theme.

• Plotted points on the route are visible at all zoom scales.

• The points are cleared from the enroute map when you clear the route.

Marking a Plotted Point

FliteDeck Pro can record the latitude and longitude coordinates based on the current aircraft position and display the point on the map when these conditions exist:

• Your device has GPS connectivity.

• Enable Moving Map is set to On in App Settings

If your device does not meet the minimum GPS requirement, you can record the coordinates manually.

To mark a plotted point with GPS connectivity

• Tap the Plot Position button on the toolbar.

FliteDeck Pro displays a point on the map representing your current aircraft position with the latitude and longitude coordinates. The point is named with the current time.

FIGURE 15: Plotting points with GPS

NOTE: For FliteDeck Pro to plot the coordinates, Enable Moving Map must be set On in App Settings and a minimum GPS accuracy of 200m or less must be met.

Issues Resolved

Issues Resolved

The following issues were resolved at the indicated release.

FliteDeck Pro 8.5, update 1

The App Switched to Revised Charts Without User Action

Issue: Charts that were revised mid-cycle were being removed from FliteDeck Pro when the new version became effective, even if the previous version was selected in the open app session.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved. The previous version of a selected chart is replaced with the revised version (or no version for a deleted scenario) when you navigate away from the terminal chart or when you tap a chart category from the control bar.

Selecting the 10-7D or 10-7E Chart for SKBO Caused the App to Quit

Issue: When you selected the 10-7D or 10-7E terminal chart for SKBO (El Dorado Interna-tional Airport in Bogota, Columbia), FliteDeck Pro quit. This occurred with the December 16 version of the charts.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

FliteDeck Pro 8.5

Terminal Charts on the Selected Charts Bar Were Missing Note Badges

Issue: When you entered notes on a terminal chart, a badge appeared on the Selected Charts bar. Sometimes this badge did not appear when notes were added.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved. Release 8.5 does not provide the option to add notes to a terminal chart.

Two-Finger Swiping a Terminal Chart Panned the Chart Instead of Selecting the Next Chart

Issue: A two-finger swipe typically scrolls to the next chart. However, if you viewed FliteDeck Pro in portrait orientation while the charts were oriented for landscape viewing, a two-finger swipe sometimes panned the chart.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

Lat/Long Information for a User-Defined Waypoint Disappeared When You Panned the Map

Issue: After you created a user-defined waypoint and made it a favorite (by tapping the star in the Waypoint box), FliteDeck Pro marked the waypoint on the map in magenta. FliteDeck Pro also included the lat/long information for that waypoint. In some instances, if you opened the

Issues Resolved

Waypoint popover, added the waypoint to the route, and then tapped New Flight in the Flight Info drawer, the lat/long information disappeared from the map.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved. The user waypoint feature was redesigned.

Enabling Reset User Settings in Track Up Did Not Automatically Switch Range Ring Display to North Up

Issue: If you viewed Enroute in Track Up orientation with Range Rings on, FliteDeck Pro did not always switch the Range Rings display to North Up orientation when you selected Reset User Settings in the FliteDeck Pro App Settings.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

An Initialization Error Occured When Wi-Fi Was Turned Off Before an Update Finished

Issue: When you clicked the Close (X) button on the Updates dialog after a “Network Loss” notification, the application sometimes entered a state in which data engines did not initialize and a blank white screen appeared.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

Ownship Did Not Change to Nondirectional on Surface 3 LTE with Internal GPS

Issue: You can display the ownship symbol in FliteDeck Pro when your device has GPS func-tionality. The symbol changes to a nondirectional ownship symbol when ground speed is zero. However, the directional ownship symbol appeared at zero ground speed on Surface 3 LTE devices with internal GPS.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

A Double-Tap on the App Settings Button Opened the Update Screen

Issue: When you quickly double-tapped the App Settings button in Terminal Charts view, the data update screen opened. The system saw this double-tap as two taps: the first to open the App Settings popover and the second to open Updates.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved. A double-tap, as well as a single-tap, on the App Settings buttons opens App Settings.

Using Rubberband Routing When Zoomed Out Might Cause a Blank Waypoint to Be Selected

Issue: If the edges of the globe appeared on the Enroute map, FliteDeck Pro sometimes selected a blank waypoint when you dragged the route to the edge of the globe. When FliteDeck Pro displayed the object details for the new waypoint, the latitude and longitude fields were blank.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

Issues Resolved

FliteDeck Pro Did Not Display the Correct Chart After You Changed the Chart Category

Issue: In some instances, FliteDeck Pro did not display the correct terminal chart. This issue sometimes occurred if you viewed a chart in one category, switched to another category, and then returned to the original category and chart.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

The App Became Unresponsive During Reactivation

Issue: After deactivating FliteDeck Pro and then reactivating it, FliteDeck Pro sometimes became unresponsive. This error occurred when you opened the activation email and clicked the activation link before FliteDeck Pro fully deactivated the app.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

The Displayed Chart Proc ID Did Not Appear When the Category Flyout Was Opened

Issue: When you display a chart and tap the associated Category button, the displayed Proc ID should appear on the flyout without requiring scrolling. If the displayed chart was at the bottom of the flyout list and the list was off the page, you had to scroll through the list to see it.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

Selecting Multiple Terminal Charts in Rapid Succession Caused a System Malfunction

Issue: Selecting multiple terminal charts in rapid succession (multiple charts per second) for an extended period of time sometimes caused a system malfunction.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

After Locking the Display in Desktop Mode the Chart Still Rotated

Issue: The display lock feature locks the current view so that you do not accidentally pan or zoom away from information that you need. (You access the display lock feature from the Display Lock icon on the FliteDeck Pro toolbar.) When you attempted to lock the display in Desktop mode in Windows 10, the view did not lock.

Resolution: While this issue has been resolved, Jeppesen recommends that you use FliteDeck Pro only in Tablet mode on Windows 10 devices.

The Correct Terminal Chart View Did Not Always Show When the Default View Was Changed

Issue: In some instances, FliteDeck Pro did not display the charts in the correct mode. This issue sometimes occurred if you viewed a chart and then changed the default view in FliteDeck Pro App Settings.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

Issues Resolved

During the Reinstall Process, the “Device Already Registered” Message Appeared

Issue: If you uninstalled FliteDeck Pro and then reinstalled the app, the “Device Already Registered” message sometimes appeared during the installation process. This message was not supposed to appear because FliteDeck Pro deactivates the application when it is unin-stalled.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

Comm Sectors Continued to Display on the Enroute Map After Airspaces Were Turned Off

Issue: Comm sectors should only appear on the enroute map when FliteDeck Pro is showing airspaces. However, if you turned off the airspace filter, comm sectors still appeared on the map.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

For Very Long Routes, FliteDeck Pro Did Not Always Display All Weather Data

Issue: Under certain conditions when the current route spans much of the globe, FliteDeck Pro provided weather data to only a portion of the route. In this instance, weather for alternate airports that were 1000 NM outside of the route did not show.

Resolution: This issue has been resolved.

Known Limitations

Known Limitations

A Heading in the User Guide Contains an Error

Issue: On page 35 of the FliteDeck Pro User Guide, a subheading says “To create a temporary user waypoint” when it should say “To create a permanent user waypoint.”

Mitigation: Download the corrected version of the FliteDeck Pro User Guide that is available online, at http://jeppesen.com/fdprowin.

The Switch Button Is Disabled When Viewing a Chart That Is to Be Deleted After the Revision Period

Issue: The Switch button on the effectivity badge is disabled when these two conditions are met: You view a deleted chart or an earlier version of a revised chart, and the system date has rolled past the 48-hour effectivity window (the chart is no longer valid).

Mitigation: Select another chart from the chart category button on the control bar.

Effectivity - Misleading Revision Tag Text for Expired Revised Chart

Issue: When you view an expired chart on the second day of the mid-cycle revision period (when the chart is expired), the chart’s revision information incorrectly indicates that the chart is effective.

Mitigation: Close and restart the app to display the correct version information on the chart.

An Expired Chart That Is to Be Deleted Is Removed During the Revision Period

Issue: The terminal chart that you are viewing is removed from view and replaced with another clipped chart when all of these conditions are true: It is the second day of the revision period; the terminal chart is to be deleted mid-cycle; and you switch back to the first day of the revision period.

Mitigation: Tap the chart category button and then select the chart that you want to view. (You might need to tap the chart category button twice.)

The Mid-Cycle Revision Selector Does Not Default to the Current Date

Issue: The effective chart date does not reset to the current date after you restart the device when both of these conditions are met: You view a version of the chart that was revised mid-cycle, and you view the chart on the day before or after the current date.

Mitigation: After you restart the device, tap the effectivity badge from the Airports list or from a chart, and then select the current date from the Revision Selector.

Incorrect Effectivity Date on the Airport Revision Selector

Issue: When you view a terminal chart with a mid-cycle update as the current time enters the revision window, the Airport Revision Selector might not show the correct revision date.

Known Limitations

Mitigation: Tap the effectivity badge from the Airports list, tap the date you want to view in the Airport Revision Selector, and then tap Done.

Buttons Missing in the ETP/ETOPS Popover

Issue: On devices that are running earlier versions of Windows 10, the plus buttons that allow you to add route points are missing in the ETP/ETOPS popover.

Mitigation: Ensure that your device is running the most current version of Windows 10. To be fully compatible with FliteDeck Pro, the device should be running Version 1511 at minimum.

FliteDeck Pro Quits on the Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

Issue: FliteDeck Pro might quit on startup if you are using a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book and an earlier version of Windows 10. This event usually occurs immediately after the chart begins to load. This issue is caused by a problem with the Intel graphics driver. Version 20.19.15.4326 of the Intel® HD Graphics 520 driver has known compatibility issues with many graphics applications.

Mitigation: Ensure that your device is running the most current version of Windows 10.

Charts Deleted in JDM Pro Are Still Visible in FliteDeck Pro After Updating

Issue: Charts that were deleted in JDM Pro are still visible in FliteDeck Pro after you perform a data update from App Settings. The update completes, and the deleted content is removed, only after you restart FliteDeck Pro.

Mitigation: Close and restart FliteDeck Pro after you perform a data update.

FliteDeck Pro Changes Orientation When the Display is Locked

Issue: When you lock the display from the toolbar, the display does not change and interac-tions are unavailable. Currently, however, rotating the device changes the orientation.

Mitigation: None at this time.

Certain Controls Are Truncated in Split View

Issue: The controls in the GPS, Operations Notes, and Weather flyouts are truncated when you display FliteDeck Pro in split screen at one-third width.

Mitigation: Expand the size of the FliteDeck Pro view.

FliteDeck Pro Incorrectly Displays the Last-Viewed Clipped Chart When Switching Revised Charts

Issue: This issue applies when an airport has mid-cycle chart revisions. When you switch to a future-effective chart, FliteDeck Pro switches to future-effective charts, but displays the last viewed, clipped chart for the selected chart category. The app should display the future-effective revised chart.

Mitigation: Manually select the revised chart of interest.

Known Limitations

FliteDeck Pro Does Not Switch to the Alternate Airport Chart When the Destination is Deleted and There is No Origin

Issue: This issue applies to a route with a destination airport and an alternate, but no origin airport. When you display the airport diagram for the destination airport and then delete the destination airport, FliteDeck Pro does not switch to the airport diagram of the alternate airport.

Mitigation: Manually select the airport diagram for the alternate airport.

Tapping the Airport Effectivity Badge Does Not Display the Revision Selector

Issue: Tapping the Airport Effectivity badge does not display the revision selector, which allows you to switch to the other diagram. Tapping the text of the indicator, however, does allow you to switch.

Mitigation: To switch airport diagrams, tap the text of the Airport Effectivity indicator.

FliteDeck Pro Displays the First Associated Engine-Out Chart Instead of the Last Associated Chart

Issue: When multiple engine-out charts are associated with a route, FliteDeck Pro displays the first associated engine-out chart in the Company chart category list instead of the last associated engine-out chart.

Mitigation: Manually select the engine-out chart of interest.

Previewed Chart is Not Highlighted in the Chart List

Issue: When you preview a terminal chart (not clipped to the Selected Charts bar), display another chart category with no clipped charts, and then return to the previously previewed chart category list, FliteDeck Pro does not highlight the previewed chart in the chart list.

Mitigation: None at this time.

ETP Labels Are Positioned Incorrectly When Panning Offscreen

Issue: When you create an ETP with two alternate airports and then pan the display so that the ETP is no longer visible, the alternates no longer appear and the ETP label is positioned incorrectly when you pan back to the point.

Mitigation: Zoom in or out to reset the ETP label.

The Flight Plan Service Field Does Not Retain Its Value When You Tap Away

Issue: When you make an entry in one of the Flight Plan Services fields in App Settings and then tap away from App Settings, your entry is not retained.

Mitigation: To retain the entry, tap in one of the other Flight Plan Services fields before tapping away from App Settings.

Known Limitations

An Incorrect Error Message Appears When You Activate FliteDeck Pro Without an Internet Connection

Issue: The message RegistrationPagePage failed appears when you attempt to activate FliteDeck Pro without an Internet connection.

Mitigation: Activate FliteDeck Pro when you have an Internet connection.

Unable to Pan and Zoom in Chart Highlight Mode

Issue: Currently, in terminal chart highlight mode, you are unable to use a two-finger swipe to navigate through charts. You are also unable to pan and zoom a chart.

Mitigation: Exit highlight mode before swiping, panning, or zooming a terminal chart.

Microsoft Reader Does Not Render Graphics in Airway Manuals

Issue: When you display an Airway Manual using the Microsoft Reader app, graphic images do not appear.

Mitigation: Display the Airway Manual in another PDF reader.

FliteDeck Pro Quits When There Are More Than 10 Datasets

Issue: FliteDeck Pro is designed to support one Jeppesen dataset and up to 11 datasets for customer-inserted charts (CIC). Currently, the app quits when more than nine unique CIC datasets are associated.

Mitigation: Limit the number of CIC datasets. Also, test to ensure that the app can start and run successfully when the data are loaded on the device.

An “Updates Completed” Message Appears When an Update Is Interrupted

Issue: If the data update process is interrupted, for example, by a temporary loss of connec-tivity, the update process resumes when connectivity is restored. When the download is completed, FliteDeck Pro displays the message “Updates Completed.” Currently, this message might appear when connectivity is disrupted and the update process is not actually complete.

Mitigation: None at this time. The next time you connect, FliteDeck Pro will indicate that updates are ready to be downloaded.

An Imported Route Description with Erroneous CRLF Fails to Load

Issue: A flight plan might derive from AFTN FPL messages. The flight plan has a Type15 route string in the RouteDescription element and no waypoints in the waypoints element. On occasion, these flight plans might contain an erroneous CRLF embedded in a token. The application generates a Load Flight Failed message.

Mitigation: None at this time.

Known Limitations

The Search Feature Cannot Find a User Waypoint

Issue: The Search feature in FliteDeck Pro allows you to find airports, navaids, and waypoints by entering search criteria. Currently, this search feature does not find user-defined waypoints.

Mitigation: None at this time.

TOC/TOD Route Points Cannot Be Edited on the Enroute Map

Issue: Some 633 routes include special Top of Climb (TOC) and Top of Descent (TOD) points. If the 633 route includes these points, you might be unable to edit them directly from the enroute map.

Mitigation: Edit TOC/TOD points from the route description in the Flight Info drawer.

Enroute Intersection Info Flashes White Momentarily in Night Mode

Issue: In some instances when you select the Intersection Info button from the details box while viewing Enroute in Night Mode, FliteDeck Pro displays the information in Day Mode momentarily before returning to Night Mode. If this issue occurs, the Day Mode display might appear as a bright flash.

Mitigation: None at this time.

An Expired Terminal Chart Remains in the Clip for a Revised Chart After Date Change and Restart

Issue: In some instances, an expired chart can remain in the chart clip. This issue might occur if a chart is valid when you close FliteDeck Pro, but expires before you reopen the app.

Mitigation: Remove the chart from the clip.

The ICAO Label Is Obscured at Some Zoom Scales

Issue: In some instances, you can zoom the Enroute map in such a way that the ICAO identifier of the displayed airport is obscured.

Mitigation: To see the ICAO information, manipulate the map by zooming in further, zooming out, or panning.

In Night Theme, the Icing Legend Does Not Match Displayed Colors

Issue: When you view FliteDeck Pro in Night Theme, the Icing legend does not match the colors that are displayed on the Enroute map. The legend colors are typically darker than what shows on the map in Night Theme.

Mitigation: None at this time.

Regional and Reference Notes Flash Before Appearing

Issue: In Enroute, Regional and Reference Notes flash before appearing but Operational Notes appear without flashing.

Mitigation: None at this time.
