ESALQ & OSU: The History
• ESALQ and Ohio State’s College of Food Agriculture and Environmental Science have a long history of collaboration
• 2 years ago ESALQ & Fisher College began to collaborate on a course called the Emerging Market Field Study that has been offered at Fisher since 1999

OBJECTIVES:
•Increase students’ understanding of emerging economies and the opportunities and challenges for doing business in those countries
•Increase students’ competency and confidence in understanding and working with their international colleagues on real world projects
•Provide an overview of the culture and its impact on how business is conducted
Emerging Market Field Studies
LOGISTICS:
•The course is offered for 10 weeks (January – March) in the evening
•Brazilian students enroll in the course at ESALQ with Professor Martines and are assigned to project teams with Fisher’s MBA students
•Lectures are delivered via video conference and students use technology (Skype, email, Google docs, etc.) to complete their projects
Emerging Market Field Studies
LOGISTICS:
•Fisher College students visit Brazil for 1 week at the end of March
•All students meet with company representatives during that week to share the results of their projects, get feedback, and identify projects for next year

• ESALQ students spend 10 weeks in Columbus (January – March)
• Academic program includes:– EMFS course
– A readings course focused on doing business in the United States with guest lecturers & faculty
– Customized English language training
ESALQ students may also attend:• Fisher’s International Business Club & Speaker Series
• Networking with OSU grad students in the Agricultural, Environmental & Developmental Economics program
• Mershon Center for International Security Studies lectures
• Job shadow with an American executive
• Cultural excursions (Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame, Amish community, OH State House)
