Your First Month ChecklistRead through the You & McGill guide you received at Discover McGill in full and contact
Campus Life & Engagement (see September) with any questions.
Download the official McGill app on the App Store or Google Play. You can use it as a complement to this calendar to keep track of important dates!
Connect with Campus Life & Engagement on social media on Facebook (fb.com/CLEMcGill and fb.com/McGill1516), Twitter (@CLEMcGill), Instagram (@CLEMcGill), and Snapchat (CLEMcGill).
Verify your registration and fee information, provide your emergency contact information, and update your Montreal mailing address on Minerva.
Drop by the AskMcGill desk in the Brown Student Services Building Lobby any time throughout the year and watch out for the AskMcGill booths on lower campus during Orientation Week for answers to your questions about life at
McGill and in Montreal. You can also go online to ask.mcgill.ca at any point for answers from the comprehensive AskMcGill FAQ database.
Activate your McGill email account, and check it regularly so you don’t miss important messages. McGill email is the University’s official means of communication with you.
Obtain your McGill student ID card (and medical insurance card for international students). On the downtown campus, this can be done at Service Point. On the Macdonald campus, your ID card can be obtained in the Student Affairs Office (Laird Hall
106) and your medical insurance card can be obtained at Student Services in the Centennial Centre, Suite 124.
Submit your legal documents to McGill’s Enrolment Services as soon as possible – preferably well in advance of the fee payment deadline, so that your tuition fees are billed at the correct rate right from the start.
• Quebec students: submit your proof of residency. • Out-of-province students: submit your Proof of Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residency.
• International students: submit your CAQ (Certificate of Acceptance of Quebec), your Study Permit, and an Entry Visa (in some cases). Further information about legal documents can be found at mcgill.ca/legaldocuments.
Finalize your schedule by the end of the Add/Drop Period (Fall: September 22; Winter: January 19).
Buy your books and course packs after you have received the book list from your professors. Note: Course packs are non-refundable and are ideally purchased after the Add/Drop Period.
Complete the mandatory Academic Integrity Tutorial, which will be available on myCourses shortly after the Add/Drop deadline.
Attend SSMU’s Activities Night on September 8th + 9th and again in January 2016. Watch for information from SSMU with the January dates!
Bookmark and browse Campus Life & Engagement’s website for first-year students at mcgill.ca/firstyear.
Activate your myInvolvement account and browse the different events and opportunities at involvement.mcgill.ca, many of which can appear on your Co-Curricular Record.
