Firstly I would like to warmly welcome everyone back for the commencement of Term Three. I hope that the holiday break was refreshing and that everyone in our college community had some time to relax and recharge their batteries for the second half of the year. Week One of this term was certainly busy as we commenced with year 7 11 Parent/Teacher Interviews. I was very pleased to see the improved turn out of parents and students who took the opportunity to attend. These conversations, on the whole, were very positive and gave everyone involved a sense of where the students were at, and how they can make improvements over rest of the year. I look forward to seeing the outcomes of these interviews as I continue to monitor student progress in the months ahead. At the end of last term we celebrated a range of wonderful achievements. The college production of Annie the Musical truly was a wonderful experience and a credit to all involved. Congratulations to all the cast and crew involved in the production. We look forward, to seeing what the CAPA Department will achieve in the next musical, scheduled for 2017. Also, at the end of last term, our Equestrian Team participated in the ENSW State Interschool Carnival. Over the course of this challenging three day event our riders’ horsemanship skills were tested across a range of events and I am pleased to say that their commitment and tenacity led them to be awarded Champion Overall Primary School, Reserve Championship Combined Training School and Champion Show Jumping School. This is a fine achievement and something we congratulate them for. As the second half of the year commences, my attention now starts to move to next year, believe it or not. Over the coming month we will be planning and preparing the 2016 budget and the two main drivers of this budget are student numbers and staffing needs. In terms of student numbers, the college is expecting to continue to grow, and we anticipate enrolling our largest ever cohort of Year 7 students in 2016. We have about three places left for our five classes, so if you have a sibling yet to enrol for Year 7 next year it important to address this matter quickly as I may not be able to offer you a place once these positions are filled. There are still some vacancies in other year groups, so if you are interested in enrolling a child into the college in 2016 please contact my PA, Mrs Barbra Whelan, for an enrolment package. Finally, last week we commenced our advertising process for our new College Chaplain. Mr Rob Warner will continue on as part-time Assistant Chaplain and this is something we are very pleased about. Rob’s ministry to our college community is appreciated by many and we are very pleased that this will continue in the months and years ahead. To support this ministry the College Council recently approved the role of a full time College Chaplain, so please pray for us as we commence the search to find an appropriate Chaplain for our college.

Firstly I would like to warmly

welcome everyone back for the

commencement of Term Three. I

hope that the holiday break was

refreshing and that everyone in

our college community had some time to relax and

recharge their batteries for the second half of the year.

Week One of this term was certainly busy as we

commenced with year 7 – 11 Parent/Teacher

Interviews. I was very pleased to see the improved

turn out of parents and students who took the

opportunity to attend. These conversations, on the

whole, were very positive and gave everyone involved

a sense of where the students were at, and how they

can make improvements over rest of the year. I look

forward to seeing the outcomes of these interviews as

I continue to monitor student progress in the months

ahead.

At the end of last term we celebrated a range of

wonderful achievements. The college production of

Annie the Musical truly was a wonderful experience

and a credit to all involved. Congratulations to all the

cast and crew involved in the production. We look

forward, to seeing what the CAPA Department will

achieve in the next musical, scheduled for 2017.

Also, at the end of last term, our Equestrian Team

participated in the ENSW State Interschool Carnival.

Over the course of this challenging three day event

our riders’ horsemanship skills were tested across a

range of events and I am pleased to say that their

commitment and tenacity led them to be awarded

Champion Overall Primary School, Reserve

Championship Combined Training School and

Champion Show Jumping School. This is a fine

achievement and something we congratulate them

for.

As the second half of the year commences, my

attention now starts to move to next year, believe it or

not. Over the coming month we will be planning and

preparing the 2016 budget and the two main drivers

of this budget are student numbers and staffing

needs. In terms of student numbers, the college is

expecting to continue to grow, and we anticipate

enrolling our largest ever cohort of Year 7 students in

2016. We have about three places left for our five

classes, so if you have a sibling yet to enrol for Year

7 next year it important to address this matter quickly

as I may not be able to offer you a place once these

positions are filled. There are still some vacancies in

other year groups, so if you are interested in enrolling

a child into the college in 2016 please contact my PA,

Mrs Barbra Whelan, for an enrolment package.

Finally, last week we commenced our advertising

process for our new College Chaplain. Mr Rob

Warner will continue on as part-time Assistant

Chaplain and this is something we are very pleased

about. Rob’s ministry to our college community is

appreciated by many and we are very pleased that

this will continue in the months and years ahead. To

support this ministry the College Council recently

approved the role of a full time College Chaplain, so

please pray for us as we commence the search to find

an appropriate Chaplain for our college.

On Saturday 13th June Arndell hosted our first Show Jumping and Derby

Interschool Day. This attracted approximately 100 riders representing schools

from all over Sydney.

Arndell was well represented from riders in both the Primary and Secondary

schools, many who either won or placed in their classes. A special mention to

Poppie Gorton and Lucy Batten who were awarded Champion Overall in their

classes and to Emily Hill who was closest to optimum time in her Derby round.

Thank you to the riders and parents who

volunteered their time to assist in the running

of the day. It would not have been so

successful without you.

Last term, the State da Vinci Decathlon Competition was held at Knox Grammar and Arndell entered a Year 11 and a Year 8 teams. Our Year 8 team comprising of Chloe Grange, Chloe Harris, Emma Fallon, Georgia Smart, Tamsyn Smith, William Franks, Jake James and Kyle Hollis-Watts competed against fifty-five schools and our Year 11 team of Sam Foster, Jordan Merrick, Jack McCulloch, Thomas Dobson, David Osburn, Olivia Suman, Emily Arnold and Elysia Sproule competed against twenty-five schools.

Over three thousand students from State Selective and Independent schools across NSW and ACT competed in the ten disciplines: Science, Creative Producers, English, Philosophy, Art and Poetry, Mathematics, Engineering, Cartography, Code Breaking and General Knowledge. The Year 11 team was very successful placing 2nd for Science, equal 7th for General Knowledge, equal 8th for Cartography and 9th for Art and Poetry, placing them above the selective schools in those sections. Our students enjoyed the challenging problems and worked well together presenting their skills and talents. The Year 8 team were particularly proud of their Art and Poetry entry and the Year 11 Engineering Challenge, with a working model of a house in rising tides, was well constructed. All agreed it was a worthwhile event and are keen for an opportunity to attend again next year.
