In the midst of their lamenting, Jesus showed up. In their pain and sorrow, they “…were kept from recognizing him…” Jesus opened the scriptures to them, giving new and heavenly insight about the prophesies of the Messiah. Their hearts were burning inside of them as Jesus taught these two lost followers about Himself. FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH VALLEY CENTER

BROADCASTER APRIL 15, 2015

Pastor’s Post: Walking with Jesus

“While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but

their eyes were kept from recognizing him…” Luke 24:15-16

The “Walk to Emmaus” is world renowned! Cleopas and another disciple were sad, even lost. They were on a seven mile walk from Jerusalem to a town called Emmaus. They were shooting the breeze, discussing the recent events. These disciples were mourning the loss of the One they had been certain was the Messiah. To add to their distress, they had heard “rumors” that others who had encountered the risen Savior. Finally when Jesus blessed the bread and broke it, their “…eyes were opened, and they recognized him…” After the long walk, their excitement took over and they hurried back to Jerusalem to tell the others of “Walking with Jesus.”

When do you recognize Jesus? Does communion, worship, study, or serving others open your eyes? The Good News we have is that Jesus walks with us. Often when we are hurt, lost, or confused, we may feel alone or even cry out: “Where are you, Lord?” Whether or not your eyes are opened, Jesus is walking with us. It is though believing in our Resurrected Lord and worshipping and serving Him that our eyes are opened! May you recognize Christ and be found “Walking with Jesus” every day.

May your hearts burn as we walk together on our faith journey, Pastor Eric

On Sunday, March 29, Janine Ingle, our Staff Parish chair, announced that the new pastor of First United Methodist Church of Valley Center will be Rev. Ji-Seok Ju.

Ji goes by Ji or Ji-Seok, pronounced "G" + "Sock". He and his wife, Ala are both originally from South Korea. They have two children, Jeffrey and Jenna.

In 1997, Ji came to the United States, in 2001 studied at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, OK. Since seminary, he has pastored in Redding, Lawrence, Troy and Wathena. Ji-Seok has been serving Wathena and Troy for six years. Ji enjoys coaching his children in sports.

Ala attended UMKC, majored in Piano Performance. She is presently a Professor in the music department of Missouri Western State (St. Joseph). She is the daughter of a Presbyterian minister, also from South Korea. Ala plays the piano (and I believe the cello), involved in choir, opera, and children choir.

Their son Jeffrey is presently a sixth grader. He plays the piano and cello, and loves basketball. Their daughter, Jenna, is presently a third grader. She plays the piano and cello, likes soccer and softball.

Please be in prayer for the Ju family as they prepare to move to Valley Center.
