Message from the
Staff Parish Relations Committee,
I want to start off by giving a heartfelt
thanks to everyone who has ap-
proached David and Willis in the past
weeks extending their congratulations
as well as offers of help during and
after the transitions to their new ap-
pointments in July. In appreciation to
David for his devotion, hard work, and contributions to our
church over the past seven years, the SPRC is planning an in-
formal celebration in his honor on Sunday, June 26th at 3:30 in
the church fellowship hall. Additionally, there will be a basket
in which you may leave any cards, honorariums, and well
wishes for David.
You are a great congregation and the SPRC wants to thank you
for all you do in keeping this church vibrant as we fulfill our
mission of serving God.

Chairman

New Prayer Team Ministry at FUMC
Do you have a compassionate heart for the needs of others? We need you as a member of the new
prayer team at FUMC. You can choose to be involved in any of these ways: praying for our pastors be-
fore church services, meeting as a group to pray for church members and others, making time to pray
at home for members, prayer through digital communication, and more. Please fill out this form, re-
turn it to the church office, and someone will be in touch with you soon. Or, if you need further infor-
mation, call the church office at 828-464-8422. “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a
thankful heart.” Colossians 4:2

Exciting new Senior Program coming soon to FUMC!
Hello Friends,
I just wanted to take a moment to let you know about a
new program that will begin at our church in August. The Joy
Ministry will begin on Thursday, August 11th. This program is
being offered to all of our senior adults within our church as well
as within our community. The name, Joy (Just Older Youth) was
used years ago when quite a few of our senior church members
gathered for social interaction, and we would like to honor what
they began all those years ago by keeping the name "Joy" in this
new adventure for all senior adults within our community.
We will meet on the second Thursday of every month (beginning August 11th) in our fel-
lowship hall. This will be a morning program followed by lunch being served at 12:00 noon. The
morning will be filled with fellowship, devotions, prayer concerns, and a 30-40 minute program,
followed by our noon meal.
I personally want each of you to know that this is not some wild, fly-by-night, "let's give
this a try" crazy idea. This is a new program that has been prayed over, thought out, and talked
about for almost two years now. I am beyond excited to get this started!
As with any well-run program, we are going to need volunteers willing to help get The Joy
Ministry up and running smoothly and efficiently. I have met with several people who are inter-
ested in volunteering, and I know we need more! So, will you please pray for this new ministry?
And if you feel like this could possibly be something that you would like to help with, then I
would love to talk with you!
We are going to have a volunteer meeting on Monday, July 11th in the fellowship hall as
follows:
• 2:00pm - All those interested in helping with Registration (name tags, pre-registering for the
following month, visitor forms etc.)
• 3:00pm - All those interested in helping with Hospitality (greeters, decorations, table games,
etc.)
• 4:00 pm - All those helping with Food ( serving, dessert teams, coffee/snacks etc.
If you cannot attend the volunteer meeting in July, just let me or Joe Beaman know that
you are interested in volunteering, and we will definitely be grateful for your help!
Again, I am beyond excited to see this program finally "take flight" in August! I truly ap-
preciate the feedback and support that we've received as we've dreamed of bringing The Joy Min-
istry back to our church. To God be the glory for this great thing that He is doing. May each sen-
ior adult that enters our fellowship hall for this program feel His love through us.
Thank you,
Beverly Underwood

Let's celebrate the work people
do in our communities!
As the children build literacy, develop vo-
cabulary, practice math concepts, sing songs,
sort materials, and participate in dramatic
play activities, they learned about the tools,
uniforms, and tasks of a variety of commu-
nity helpers such as police officers, firefight-
ers, ministers, and librarians.
If you would like more information about the
Newton Methodist Preschool, or to enroll a
student for the 2016-2017 school year begin-
ning September 6th, please call our Preschool
Director Kristi Harvell at 828-465-6397.
