Fellowship Ministry
“And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another,
and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” ~ Hebrews 10: 24-25 The mission of the Fellowship Ministry Area is to facilitate Fun, Food, & Friendship opportunities for all ages and groups within the congregation to get to know each other, experience our common bond, our shared faith, and encourage one another.
Wednesday Night Dinners An important component of our fellowship together at FUMC is our Wednesday Night Dinners. We will kick off our dinners on Sept. 11th with a Covered Dish Dinner. Dinners will begin at 5:45 (note the new earlier time) with Green Street Kids and Adult Bible Studies following at 6:30. Each week, adult meals will be $6.00 and meals for children 3-12 will be $4.00. The maximum family cost is $20.00. There is no charge for covered dish meals which occur once a month. Payments will be made at the door each Wednesday night or, if you wish, you may pay for the entire 11 weeks at our first dinner (you will only pay for 8 meals since the other 3 will be Covered Dish Dinners).
How Reservations Work We need to know how many to prepare for, so you will need to let us know you are coming to the Fellowship Dinner. You may get on the “Permanent List” for the entire 11 weeks of meals by registering in the Church Office or emailing Jo Shackelford at [email protected]. If you are not able to attend a dinner, email Jo or call the church office at 237-6121 by noon on Monday of that week or you will be charged for the meal. You may also register for the Fellowship Dinners on a weekly basis by emailing Jo or by calling the church office by noon on Monday.
Calling ALL Groups (Sunday School Classes, UMW, UMM, VIM, etc.)!!
Please consider providing and serving a Wednesday Night Dinner. We have openings on the following dates:
September 18 October 16 November 13 September 25 October 23 November 20 October 30
We also need a group to provide pizza and salad for a church-wide event on Sunday night, October 20th. If you are interested in providing a meal for one of the above dates, or if you would like to volunteer in the Fellowship Ministry Area, please contact Linda Pittman at [email protected], Toni McKeel at [email protected], or Vickie Franks at [email protected].

The 28th annual Volunteers in Mission (VIM) Barbecue Sale is scheduled for Friday, September 13. In the past, many have generously helped underwrite the expenses of the barbecue by purchasing a “pig” for $100. Unfortu-nately, the 2018 barbecue had to be cancelled due to Hurri-cane Florence, and plans to hold it in the spring met with scheduling difficulties. However, many of you who were 2018 “pig” purchasers allowed us to keep the donation for the 2019 barbecue. If you are not already a 2018 (now 2019) “pig” purchaser and would like to be one, or pur-chase additional 2019 “pigs,” please call or send an email to Bea Newton 399-9561 [email protected] or Ben Batts, 294-7447 [email protected] and indicate how many “pigs” you wish to pledge. You will be mailed an invoice/tax receipt later this month with an envelope for payment. If this is your first time, please also give your full name(s), address and phone number. Thanks for your generous support!

Sending Forth BROKEN VESSELS Praise Band
Greeters for August 11th: David Edwards, John and Mary Lou Skinner, Dylan Skinner, and Emory Skinner
We thank the Praise Band for their ministry this morning.
From the Pastor: One of the first books I received when I entered the ministry was written by Henri Nouwen entitled, With Open Hands. It is a book about prayer and it has been a book I have gone back to from time to time across these almost 40 years of pastoral ministry. Nouwen wrote that a first prayer, whatever it may be, is often a painful one because in order to open ourselves to God in praying “we must first open our clenched fists and let go of what we grasp most tightly.” What are the things I dearly treasure in life? Possessions? Careers? Prestige? Family? We all know the truth of this statement by Jesus, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:34) But what do I trust to God? Nouwen wrote this prayer: Dear God, I am so afraid to open my clenched fists! Who will I be when I have nothing to hang on to? Who will I be when I stand before you with empty hands? Please help me to gradually open my hands and discover that I am not what I own, but what you want to give. And what you want to give me is love, unconditional, everlasting love. Amen. Oh, and another thing Jesus said, “Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32). Lord, give me strength to open my hands.
Pastor Bob

We welcome Megan and Nick Parker and their twins, Cameron and Bennett, into the fellowship of FUMC this morning at the 11:00 worship service. PRESENTING OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS
OFFERTORY ANTHEM “Blessings” Laura Story (Please sign and pass the attendance pad) We pray for blessings, we pray for peace. Comfort for family, protection while we sleep. We pray for healing, for prosperity. We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering. All the while, You hear each spoken need, yet love is way too much to give us lesser things. 'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops? What if Your healing comes through tears? What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near? What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise? We pray for wisdom, Your voice to hear. We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near. We doubt your goodness, we doubt your love as if every promise from Your Word is not enough. All the while, You hear each desperate plea and long that we'd have faith to believe. When friends betray us, when darkness seems to win, we know that pain reminds this heart that this is not our home. What if my greatest disappointments or the aching of this life is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy? What if trials of this life: the rain, the storms, the hardest nights, are your mercies in disguise? +DOXOLOGY UMH 94
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below: Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ, whose power up-lifts! Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

+SHARING THE PEACE
OPENING VOLUNTARY “Still” Kari Jobe
He is here for the broken and life to the one who is undone. He is peace to the wounded and hope for the helpless one. He is here, He is here. Be still my soul, be still. Be still my soul, be still. Wait patiently upon the Lord. Be still my soul, be still. When the waves rise against me and the wind tries to draw me away, I will stand on the mountain, safe in Your arms. I will sing, I will sing. Be still my soul, be still. Be still my soul, be still. Wait patiently upon the Lord. Be still my soul, be still. Be still. I know He is God. He is here, He is here. Be still, I know He is God. He is here, He is here. Be still my soul, be still. Be still my soul, be still. Wait patiently upon the Lord. Be still my soul, be still.
+HYMN OF PRAISE NO.529 “How Firm a Foundation” UMH
+AFFIRMATION OF FAITH “The Apostles’ Creed” UMH 881
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our
Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. +GLORIA PATRI
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
