A GIFT FROM GOD, OUR BLESSED MOTHER MARY
We want to thank our Lord Jesus Christ, for the gift of His Mother Mary, to the Church and to each human
being. Mary’s sons and daughters.
At the foot of the Cross, while Jesus was hanging from it, suffering in his body, all the cruelty of those criminal
soldiers, sent by the enemies of Christ: Teachers of the Law, Scribes and Pharisees, He was thinking of his
Mother Mary Immaculate. He did not want to leave her alone. He gave the custody and care for her to John,
his beloved young apostle, and by giving her to him, our Savior Jesus Christ, gave her to us as well, because
He knew we needed a Spiritual Mother, to listen to our petitions, to wipe our tears away, and to help us
through life with her constant and loving intercession.
The fact that Blessed Mother Mary has appeared in different places of the world, and in some places crying
and even having blood tears on her face, talks to us of her immense love and care she has for us, her spiritual
children. Who can say or believe if we meditate on these truths, that she does not care or not love us all?
There have been saintly people, through the years, centered in Jesus Christ who also had a profound love and
devotion to the Mother of Christ and our beloved Mother Mary. It is certain that whoever has a true devotion
and love for Mary will walk with her and she will lead him/her to Jesus Christ, her Son, and our Savior, Jesus
Christ, will lead us to our Heavenly Father.
agradecer a Él toda nuestra vida.
Celestial.

Pope Francis in his homily of Ash Wednesday tells us
that the season of Lent is an invitation to focus first
on God, then on charity towards others and “finally,
Lent invites us to look inside our heart, with fasting,
which frees us from attachment to things and from
the worldliness that numbs the heart.”
He compares the heart to a magnet which always
“needs to attach itself to something,” he said if it
always “attaches” to things of the world, “sooner or
later it becomes a slave to them.”
Have you become a slave to the things of this world? Do you put aside your prayer time to spend hours on Facebook?
Do you stay up late watching novelas or watching late night television so that it becomes impossible for you to wake
up early for early daily mass? Do you spend your evening hours on Pinterest or YouTube instead of visiting the sick in
the hospital or nursing homes? Do you spend your time at the malls, Walmart and HEB finding the best deals for
unnecessary things you will eventually throw away 6 months down the line instead of using that money to donate to
the poor or a good cause?
Pope Francis reminds us that “earthly realities fade away like dust in the wind.” He reminds us that no material
possessions or wealth go with us past our graves. “Lent is for God, not for the things of this world; for the eternity of
heaven, not for earthly deceit; for the freedom of the children of God, not for slavery to things.”
As Fr. Naul said in his homily on Ash Wednesday, by accepting to have the cross placed on your forehead you are
choosing to change. Let this Lent season be a true season of change. A season where we make every effort to seek
out God first. Give you soul the time to accompany Christ at Adoration on Thursdays. Give your mind an opportunity
to join in the suffering of Christ on the Cross at the Stations of the Cross on Friday. Let your spirit be refreshed and
renewed by attending the Lenten retreats provided by the parish. This is the time for change.
