4 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, People of Our Lady, Mother of the Church Parish, With the whole Christian world, we cry out during Advent: Come, Lord Jesus! – Maranatha !(מרנא תא) I was surprised when a couple days ago, even before we started the Advent season, somebody said “Merry Christmas!” It is nice to hear such a warm wish, but it sounds like we skipped the spiritual journey of Advent. Advent is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Na-

tivity of Jesus at Christmas. We are vigilant with joyful hearts to welcome our Messiah. Even commercial advertisements try to put us in a rush. The Church with its great wisdom invites us to take a breath, to have time for reflection, to see how God is faithful in fulfilling promis-es. Candles in the Advent wreath symbolize dispelling darkness from our hearts. Every week we light one more candle until the Light of the World – Jesus Christ comes to us. Candles are in violet color, which is a liturgical color of the season and symbolizes a time of prayer, penance, and sacrifice. The third candle is in rose color – symbolizes joy because the Lord is near. We wait with Mary and Joseph for the child to be born. This Fri-day we will celebrate Solemnity of The Immaculate Conception. That special privilege to Mary, to be free of original sin, was given in spite of her Son. Mary received that privilege to be a worthy dwelling of God’s Son. December 8th is a holy day of obligation and the Patronal Feast Day of the United States of America. At our Church we will celebrate Mass at 8:30 in the morning and at 7:00 in the evening. Let us go on the spiritual journey to welcome Messiah crying out – come, Lord Jesus!

May God bless you, Fr. Andrew

Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement

We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...
