At the zenith of a long tradition of cross-border cooperation between Germany and France in the field of education is a special event this year to underline its importance: the ce-lebration of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship signed by the German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and the French President Charles de Gaulle in 1963.
The Elysée year proclaimed to mark this occasion is paying tribute to the Franco-German friendship with a number of major and smaller events. In joint collaboration, the Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate and Department of Moselle invite you to the international congress ‘Multi-lingualism creates Opportunities: Continuity in Education and Training’ in Saarbrücken, a highlight on educational policy. They are supported by the Inspection Académique in Metz and the Christliche Erwachsenen-bildung e.V.
In the knowledge that extensive language skills are a gateway to Europe, a gateway to the world, the congress is focussing on bilingual acquisition starting at nursery school, continuing through school educa-tion and beyond to vocational training as a lifelong learning process.
A considerable number of renowned academics from Germany and abroad will not only present aspects of methodology and didactics and the neurophysiological background but also discuss planning and financing opportunities as well as effective implementation of bilingual projects in forums and round tables.
I look forward to welcoming you to this congress.
Ulrich Commerçon
Minister for Education and Culture

Cooperation has been established with the organizations Christliche Erwachsenbildung Merzig-Hilbringen and Inspection Académique Nancy-Metz as project partners in a language teaching project subsidized by the European Union with INTERREG funds allocated to the TRILINGUA project.
