LHP Cody Reed was fantastic, throwing seven innings and allowing just one hit. He walked one and struck out five. Five different Bats’ hitters had a base knock and eight of the nine starters reached base. The only one who did not record a hit was C Chris Berset, who had a sacrifice fly and an RBI in the seventh inning. CODY REED- THE ONE HIT WONDER: LHP Cody Reed made his home debut in front of 5,556 fans at LSF yesterday afternoon, and he did not disappoint. He twirled seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit- a sixth inning leadoff single to DUR 1B Pat Leonard. He walked one and struck out five. His game score of 79 is the new season high for a LOU pitcher, besting RHP Tim Adleman’s 77 on 4/25 against NOR. The one hit was the fewest he has allowed since joining the Reds’ organization last July, and the first time since he allowed just one hit in a start with High-A WIL (DE) of the Carolina League. It was also the fifth time with the Reds that he has pitched seven innings or more. Reed is now 8-2 since the trade, with a 2.04 ERA. He has allowed just 21 walks and has struck out 77 batters. In 66 and two-thirds innings pitched, he has given up just 15 earned runs. FOUR OUTTA FIVE AGAINST DURHAM: The Bats won their fourth game in five against DUR this week, and are guaranteed at least a .500 record against the Bulls for the 10 th time in franchise history, and just the third time since 2006. After going 7-5 against the Bulls in 2006, the Bats went 5-3 against DUR in 2011 and 6-2 in 2014. In the other six seasons, LOU did not manage more than four wins against the Bulls. CURTIS NAMED IL PLAYER OF THE MONTH: INF Jermaine Curtis was named the International League Player of the Month for April on Sunday. He leads the league with a .385 batting average, a .515 on-base percentage, and 18 RBI. In 16 games played, he is 20-for-52 with nine runs scored and four doubles, which is tied for the most on the team. Curtis is the first player of the month award winner for LOU since RHP Homer Bailey was honored in June of 2009. DESIGNATE D HITTER HITTING: DH Steve Selsky was the designated hitter for the Bats yesterday, and he did not disappoint. He was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. He is now hitting .262 on the season in 19 games played. His four doubles on the season are tied with 1B Brandon Allen, INF Jermaine Curtis, and SS Jose Peraza for the team lead. Selsky’s 11 walks are third most on the team behind Allen (14) and LF Jesse Winker (12). WALDROP’S HITTING STREAK SNAPPED: RF Kyle Waldrop walked and scored a run in yesterday’s 3-0 win. However, he did not record a hit, so his seven game hitting streak was snapped. Over the course of the streak, he was 9-for-30 (.300), with two doubles, two home runs, and seven RBI. …SO THE LONGEST ACTIVE HITTING STREAK GOES TO…: SS/CF Jose Peraza has a seven game hitting streak, the longest active on the team now that RF Kyle Waldrop’s streak is over. In the last seven games, Peraza is hitting .345 (10-for-29) with three doubles, a home run, and four RBI. His average has been over .300 since a 3-for-4 night in DUR on 4/28, and it stands at .302 entering play today. COMBINED 1-HITTER: RHP Steve Delabar relieved LHP Cody Reed yesterday, and only allowed a walk, striking out two. He polished off LOU’s first combined one-hitter since RHPs Michael Lorenzen (8ip) and Drew Hayes (1ip) combined to one-hit IND at Victory Field on 8/26/15. ROUGH RISP: The Bats won 3-0 yesterday, but struggled with runners in scoring position. In the two game series at LSF against DUR, the Bats were a combined 2-for-24 with RISP, collecting one hit in each game. DUR was no better, as they were hittless in four chances with runners at second or third base. RAIN DELAY INFORMATION: The Bats had their first home rain delay of the season yesterday, a 50 minute delay before the bottom of the sixth inning. It was just the second delay of the season. Including their 1:18 delay in DUR on 4/28, the Bats’ rain delays have totaled 2:08 this year. The four postponements (three in TOL and one in COL) at the beginning of the season did not officially go into a delay before being postponed.
