in the Memphis Conference be a neighbor in the community where it is located. The beneficiaries for the 2016 campaign include Reelfoot Rural Ministries, United Methodist Neighborhood Centers of Memphis, Our Father's House, Project Peanut Butter and feeding ministry partners in Mexico.” To learn more, visit http://www.memphis-umc.net. Lenten Hunger Offering at Jackson FUMCDuring Sunday worship services, February 14 the Lenten Hunger Offering was introduced through a compelling video about hunger both locally and globally. Thanks to Robert Curlin, FUMC member and Audiovisual Coordinator who created this moving video for the Memphis Conference. If you missed seeing it, visit the church website. “Giving Calendars” were also made available to provide suggestions for ways to donate and pray for those who are hungry.

Jenni Thorn, Director of Children’s Ministry is raising awareness by offering opportunities for donations through the children’s Sunday School Class Offering Challenge. Each Sunday during Lent, the offering will be collected and the class with the most money by Palm Sunday will be treated to a Donut Breakfast!

Whether individually or as a group project, everyone can make a difference!

The Lenten Hunger Offering will be collected at the Maundy Thursday, March 24th service. If you are unable to attend but want to make a contribution, you may give online at jacksonfumc.org or write a check at anytime to FUMC and designate on the memo line for: Lenten Hunger Offering.

She has two older brothers, Bo and Todd. We joyfully recognize Mae Margaret as a member of the family of God and rejoice with the Clampitt family.

Joyful Sounds?A roomful of glorious handbell ringing sounds! Can you imagine that? Our Handbell Choir, Prime Ringers, will participate in a handbell festival with other church handbell choirs in a ‘ringfest’ on Saturday, Feb. 27 at First Baptist Church on Highland Avenue. This is a great opportunity to ring with choirs from other churches and together make beautiful sounds for the Lord.

Our choir has a couple of open spots for persons who might wish to participate in this fun and relaxing time of ringing. No competition, no pressure—just opportunity to fellowship with other Christians as we make ’joyful sounds to the Lord’ with our handbells. If you would like to ring with us, please contact Margaret at your earliest opportunity as rehearsals for this occasion are in progress. Remember, you are needed, but most of all, YOU will be blessed through participation.

The Sanctuary Choir is in the midst of

preparation for the Holy Season of Lent and Easter. One cannot imagine observing and celebrating these services without the sounds of choir, soloists, and instrumentalists. Singers and instrumentalists are needed to fill the loft; but more than the need to fill spaces, music ministry centers on the blessings that are received by the persons giving of themselves to enhance the worship times by their participation. You are invited to lend your talents, large or small, to receive these blessings by joining with singers of all ages who make up the Sanctuary Choir. Want to sing “Hallelujah Chorus” with us on Easter Sunday? Come, join us on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in the choir room—a small commitment to receive a large blessing by joining with us in making “joyful sounds to the Lord.”

Devotion for February 17“The Golden Rule”

Psalm 17

WWJD? That is not the thought I call upon as I go about my daily living. I try to practice, "The Golden Rule." Treat others the way you want to be treated. WOW! How simple is that?

We have the Bible as a guide. We have Jesus as a model. With those tools, I know that what I practice, I become. The more I practice any skill the better I become at it. I don't always have success. When I let my bad choices take over, I feel hurt and disappointment in myself. I ask our Lord to forgive me and lead me to the right way to respond to those I have hurt by my bad behavior. He has never failed me when I listen to my heart. My Lord is an awesome Lord!

I know now, at the great age of 64, I will need to keep the practice of, "The Golden Rule", the practice of prayer, the practice of humility and the practice of using the power of our Lord in my daily walk. My prayer for you, my sisters and brothers in Christ, is that you will practice THE GOLDEN RULE.

Prayer: Lord, show me what I need to practice today so that your light will shine through me for others to see. Give me the discipline to practice being your child. Let me model after your example.

Prayer Shawl Ministry... Sharing God’s Love!

Do you enjoy knitting? A Prayer Shawl is a work of loving hands and hearts responding to the guidance of God’s Spirit, a tangible symbol of God’s love reaching in to human hearts through the prayers and service of others. Prayer Shawl Ministry members knit or crochet shawls that are given to individuals who are ill, suffering a loss, or are otherwise in the midst of a life crisis. Patterns and yarns are provided for prayer shawls, preemie caps, chemo caps and afghans. Before the work begins, yarn for each shawl is blessed with a special prayer. Every time ministry team members work on the shawls, whether in a group or at home, they begin with prayer and scripture reading. Upon completion, another blessing is bestowed on the shawl and it is hand-delivered to the special recipient.

To all who are a part of this wonderful ministry, many thanks! If you are new as a knitter, some helpful guidelines are to use soft yarn, such as Lion Brand- Homespun.
