    If there is anyone worthy to be called a successor to hymn writer Charles Wesley, it may be Fred Pratt Green (1903-2000). An Englishman educated at Didsbury College in Manchester, Green was ordained in the Methodist ministry in 1928, serving circuits throughout the country between 1927 and 1969. During his ministry he wrote plays and hymns and published three collections of his poems. It is set here to one of the composer’s most sonorous tunes.

    At the close of today’s service, the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated in

    the Chapel located to the left of the chancel. Immediately following the

    Lord’s Supper, a service of prayer for healing will also be held. The

    service consists of prayers for healing and wholeness, with anointing

    and laying on of hands. All are invited!

    Prayer for the Armed Forces

    Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and

    women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with

    your heavenly grace, strengthen them in their trials and temptations, give

    them courage to face the perils which beset them, and grant them a sense of

    your abiding presence wherever they may be, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
