From the Head of School FBCA Parents and Friends,

I was so thrilled two weeks ago when Kacy Benson shared an inspiring message in chapel and 30 of our 7-12th grade students made decisions trusting Christ as Savior or renewing their faith in Jesus! What a joy to see young people making commitments to follow Jesus! I’m so thankful that God is working at FBCA!

Another great joy is that 65 of our students quoted Gold Star!! They quoted all 9 months of scripture at one time! How powerful that these students know so much of God’s word! It will bring a rich harvest for their lives in the future.

These last two weeks of school are full with many student awards and recognitions. We are proud of the many excellent accomplishments of all of our students! We want to encourage them as they finish the year strong! We especially congratulate our Seniors in the Class of 2019 who will graduate Friday, May 24. We trust that God will lead them to be salt and light for His glory!

I n May we generally focus on year-end activities and awards and that is appropriate; however, this year I’d like to take a longer-range view. In recent

days I’ve heard from various alumni and have been encouraged by the evidence that years at FBCA did, indeed, prepare them for a future of Christian service.

Jake Burkhalter, Class of 2012, graduated this week with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Houston, graduating cum laude.

Kayla Knight, Class of 2013, is leaving her position as a cardiac nurse to lead medical mission teams and an orphanage in Zambia for several months.

Audrey Brod, Class of 2015, is taking a position as an RN at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston following her graduation at Baylor.

Anna Catherine Purcell, Class of 2015, is graduating magna cum laude from Bauer’s Honors College at the University of Houston. She will be working as the communications director of United Against Human Trafficking, a cause for which she developed a passion while in high school.

Three Texas A&M seniors, Ginna Ballan (Class of 15), Brett Houston (Class of 16), and Mark Moscarelli (Class of 14) will all be leading international mission groups for the summer months. Brett will be in Kazakhstan, Ginna in Indonesia, and Mark in the middle east. Garrett Houston (Class of 15) is returning next month from a year’s mission in England.

This is by no means all that God is doing, it’s just a piece that has come to my attention in last few weeks. Where will your child be in four years? The answers will be varied when it comes to geography and career choices. I

pray that it will be uni-fied in terms of a com-mitment to the cause of Christ. I pray that FBCA will be a part of that journey and celebrate with you in the days to come.

SECONDARY NEWS - Toni Shuman ELEMENTARY NEWS - Cindy McDonald

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (I John 3:18) The elementary teachers led our FBCA students in serving in our community through our “Faith in Action” projects.

1st grade students visited the Pasadena Police Department in December. They sang Christmas songs about Jesus to the officers. The students took cookies to say thank you for taking care of us.

2nd grade students visited Baywind Village in League City in March. They sang traditional and contemporary songs to the residents and made and presented thank you cards to the nurses.

3rd grade students visited the Parsons House in La Porte in March. The students sang worship songs and decorated cards for the residents.

4th grade students visited the Interfaith Caring Ministry Food Pantry in League City. They had a food drive and delivered the items to the ministry and took a tour.

5th grade students visited Today’s Harbor for Children in December. The 5th grade classes donated gifts, money and cards for a young boy who was displaced from his home and was living in a group home there. The students were able to tour Today’s Harbor and gain more understanding about the ministry and what it offers to children who are in need of a home and having a difficult time.

6th grade students visited the Houston Food Bank in January. The students helped sort multiple pallets of canned, bottled, boxed, and bagged foods.

STAFF TESTIMONY - Megan Collins FAMILY TESTIMONY - Brandon & Ashley Olive

I was blessed to grow up in a strong faith community. When I was six years old, I attended a

mother-daughter tea where I made the decision to accept Christ as my personal Savior. I recalled later sharing in a class project a dream to teach the world about God. I was in Kindergarten when I shared that desire. I received my education in private Christian schools and gradu-

ated from First Baptist Christian Academy. I then con-tinued my education at Biola University. While studying in college, I volunteered in public schools mentor-ing and teaching students how to share the gospel. I am thankful that the Lord chose to call me to His work from a very young age. This and many other experiences, have now empowered me to encourage young people in their faith development.

W ell, my first year at FBCA is wrapping up and I will say I have loved being here and getting to know so many of our students and their families. I want to leave you with some

thoughts for the summer. Encourage your student to vol-unteer this summer. Help them find ways to give of them-selves through your church, local organizations, mission work, etc… Not only will this go towards fulfilling all or some of their community service hours for next year, but it

keeps them focused on being compas-sionate and loving to the world around them. Also, maybe this year hasn’t gone quite the way you as a parent or student have hoped it would. Perhaps there have been mistakes made or grades that dropped. Regardless of what has taken place, keep this in mind: God’s mercies are new every day and August will begin a new school year. I want to encourage each of us to stay positive and return to FBCA renewed and ready to start fresh in all that we do as a stu-dent, parent or teacher. We do all that we do for the glory of the Lord and may-be this year wasn’t our best effort; don’t give up, press on and we will see you all

soon. Have a safe and blessed summer!

COUNSELOR NEWS - Alice Purcell

O ur family is incredibly thankful to FBCA for the education our

children are receiving. Our twins, Drake & Hunter, were anxious over tests when we made the transition here for first grade. I can still vividly remember them being nervous over a test & their teacher telling them God’s got them. Hunt was so excited to tell me when he was told that. This is

our second year here and our boys have zero anxiety over anything school related. FBCA has given our chil-dren a closer relationship with God, confidence in them-selves, & allowed them to develop their love of learn-ing. I love knowing they don’t panic over assessments anymore, that was important to me. Our kindergartener, Luke, has come home multiple times discussing what he has learned from the Bible that day in detail. We know we made the best decision for our children’s education by being at FBCA & are forever thankful for the people who are impacting our children each and every day.

From the Chaplain - Brannon Revel

FBCA class of 2019 participated in the school’s inaugural Senior Walk.

In their future college t-shirts, they walked down the elementary hallways, where they were met with cheers and high-fives. Graduation is just around the corner! Friday, May 24, 2019.
