Page 5: Final presentation

Key: 2,209,000-60,000 immigrants

56,000-19,000 immigrants 16,000-less than 2,500 immigrants

Cause #1: Gross State Product (GSP)

• Gross State Product is the sum of a state’s economic output in one year.

• States with a high GSP are attractive to people in places of low economic opportunity.

• The top four states in GSP are California, Texas, New York, and Florida.

• The lowest GSP in America is in Vermont,

with $26,400.

Page 9: Final presentation

Cause #1: Gross State Product (GSP) cont.

• The highest GSP in America is in California, the state with the most illegal immigrants.

• California’s GSP is $196,400,000.• States with a high gross state product

indicate better-paying jobs.• The four lowest states in GSP are

Vermont, North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming.

“In Arizona specifically, the Perryman Group estimates that the state would lose...$11.7 billion in gross state product...in the long run [due to illegal immigration].”

-Colin Gray

Cause #2: Total Personal Income Per State

• States with a high personal income include California, New York, Texas, and Florida.

• California has a total personal income of $1,340,319.

• States with a low personal income include Montana, South Dakota, Alaska, and Vermont.

• Vermont has a total personal income of $18,473.

Page 15: Final presentation

Cause #2: Total Personal Income Per State (cont.)

• A state with a high total personal income has many people with high-paying jobs.

• Many people with high-paying jobs means less people are occupying the lower-end work.

• This leads to more jobs in the lower-end of work, which is mostly manual labor.

• These types of work attract illegal immigrants.

-Jane Austen

Page 20: Final presentation

Cause #3: Employment• Some of the most popular jobs

require mostly manual labor and little education.

• These jobs are the main types of work that illegal immigrants occupy.

• Because those jobs are popular and don’t require education, many in the state become employed.

• The states indicating the most employment are likely to have many of these job types.

Page 21: Final presentation

Cause #3: Employment (cont.)

• The state of California has 14,687,000 employed people.

• The state with the least employed people is Wyoming, with just 228,000.

• The four highest ranking states in employment are California, Texas, Florida, and New York.

• The four lowest ranking states are Delaware, North and South Dakota, and Vermont.
