STRUCTURE
Level 1 There is no apparent organization to the paper. Difficult to follow. No transitions and no format. Introduction and conclusion are missing.
Level 2 There is some organization at a basic level. Hard to follow at some points, poor transitions and format. Introduction or conclusion is ineffective.
Level 3 Paper has a clear organizational structure with some digressions, ambiguities or irrelevances. Easy to follow with transitions and a structured format.
Level 4 Paper is logically organized with clear and effective transitions and a professional format. A pleasure to read. Intro and conclusion very effective.
CONTENT Level 1 Central idea and purpose are absent or incompletely expressed and maintained.
Little or no evidence of critical analysis and/or insight Level 2 The central idea is expressed though it may be vague or too broad; Some sense
of purpose is maintained throughout the essay. Some evidence of critic thought and analysis and/or insight
Level 3 Central idea and clarity purpose are generally evident throughout the essay Evidence of critical, careful thought and analysis and/or insight
Level 4 Central idea is well developed and clarity purpose is exhibited throughout the paper. Abundance of evidence of critical thought and analysis and/or insight
CITATIONS & REFERENCES Level 1 No academic reference or citations. Level 2 It shows very basic academic content, often repeated. More than two references
or citations missing or incorrectly written. Level 3 It has good use of academic terminology and appropriate content. One or two
references or citations missing or incorrectly written. Level 4 It is detailed and accurate, using a variety of authors, theories and terminology.
