When TM F Syed, theyoung VP-PR of BahrainAdvanced Toastmasters Club(BAT) requested me to send amessage for the second issueof this newsletter, I could notresist waiting. The reason was

quite simple: the request hascome from a youngToastmaster who has takenthe massive responsibility ofVP PR of the harbinger ofthe advanced Toastmastersclubs in the islandthat toowhen she is exceeding theexpectations of allsurpassing what other so

called veteran Toastmasterseven dare to do!

Recently I was summoned asthe Chief Judge for theHumorous Speech contest ofBahrain Toastmasters Club, another fabled Toastmastersclub in the island. I was quite

surprised with the superiorquality of the speeches andthe freshness of their speechthemes. You may think whatis so peculiar in that. Yes; allthe speakers were young newfaces brimming with fresh

natural ideas to expressthemselves in an innovativestyle! And mind youtheyoung contest chairpersonherself was doing her job forthe first timeso fabulously!

Fellow Toastmasters, it is hightime to respect the potentialthe younger generation iswielding. We often dismisstheir potential by resorting tothe old adage of experiencethat counts or simplybecause we are not ready togive them chances to

experiment. By properlychannelizing their skills, timeand energy we can witnesswonders with their creativityand capability. Towardsaccomplishing this objective,as Toastmasters, we have toafford more learning andleadership opportunities tothe youth whether it is in our

home, workplace, club orsociety. When this happens,we can witness the realpotential of the youth.

    Dear BATs

Year-end, the time manypeople revise their balancesheets. Of course we have to dothe same, not as a custom but

as a proactive step to look intothe past and plan the future.

We have few more monthsremaining in toastmasterscalendar to review anannual assessment though Itake this opportunity toappraise the half-year of ourterm.

I am proud to see thedevelopments of our clubduring this period. Proudbecause we had a vision focusedclearly on certain principles andactions.

As I emphasized several times, our theme "Advancement in

Excellence" was not a slogan todecorate during the meeting orto showcase a caricature displayon anywhere.

It was our spirit and soul and

the driving force towards thedestination. We put maximumeffort to reach this destination.

We set the first priority onquality issues.

    1) Guaranteed all the advancedproject speakers getting thekind of facility that required tocomplete their related projects-both technical and physical.

    2) Encouraged interpersonalcommunicationamong the club members, consequently the union of skills

and expertise gave birthto brilliant plans and projects.

    3) Had many deliberations withcress-cross securitization, onhow to do things better.

    4) Initiated new ideas and triedto convert those themes intoaction. (I admit that we could

not do many things because ofmany constraints)

    5) Initiated website, groupemails, quarterly newsletter

  • 8/8/2019 Final N.L.#2

    5/17

    6) Utilized the media to spreadthe activities of our club amongthe public.

The following are few of ouractions, we did to justify our

position and to embracethe theme of the year.

But I am sure our past 6 monthswill be marked in thetoastmasters activities becausethese different activities

    A) Mentors Pool for Advancedmanual speakers. In thisrevolutionary concept we havevolunteers to serve thetoastmasters community to helpthem whenever they have doubtabout preparing and delivering aproject.

We have prepared the list andwill be published the list ofmentors- thank you educational

    committee for making thishappen.

    B) As an Advanced Club, weinitiated the AdvancedToastmasters Exhibition (BATEX)first of its kind in Bahrain.

I admire all the club members

and other leaders for theirrelentless effort

    C) We introduced Deloitte &Touch speech craft to theentire District 79 and did ourjob as a perfect example.

For this, I salute TM Jose forintroducing the Deloitte to theDistrict and initiating the speechcraft as one of our flagships andprestigious programs.

Dr. Usha conducted the programin an impeccable way. TMArasan supported Dr. Usha .

    D) "ILA Speak Easy Program.Thank you Dr Usha forintroducing ILA to BAT andinitiating the program and TMJothi Rouben for conducting thesessions.

Dear BAT family members, wehave many things to do duringthe next 6 months. I believe inall of you, your team spirit andenthusiasm- without that wedont have BAT, we dont haveactions, we wont be enjoyingthe prerogative of being one ofthe most distinctive clubs on the

    Island.

Remember: we will beremembered on what we havedone today rather than what wecould not do tomorrow

Happy and prosperous NewYear.Kamal Mohiyuddin,President, BAT

    Warm greetings. Being advanced

    Toastmasters, We all would have

    come across many toastmaster

    experiences, which are valuable

and are to be shared. Please

    convert all your memories and

experiences into toastmasterspeeches and articles, which will

be a road of success to others.

Also the club can meet its DCP

    goals.

    Always have pocket note; anything

interesting in routine life or any

    remembrance of any past incident,

just note it down and bring out your

    special talents in presenting it

either in writing or in speaking. You

will be a real distinguished person

    in this way.

Let me share my experience with

you. When I joined BAT last year,

    some where around end of

March,2009, its just in April, Idecided to do my second CC and

within 70days I was able to

complete and dedicate a DCP point

to the club just due to the

    willingness and help of other

    likeminded senior toastmasters.

Just have a strong wish, work hard,

    achievements will be yours! Never

    feel tired!

    Privileged Toastmasters, welcome to

    another inspirational publication with the

triumph of BATEX-2010. It is exciting to

visualize the success of our BATEX- 2010,

which was our mega event in this province.

The exhibition created an ambience torealize the importance of communication

and effective presentation of ideas. We

must persist to be accountable for self-

    development simultaneously helping others

in their development. Its pleasure and

    opportunity to be with advanced

    toastmasters.

The BATEX -2010 proved again that prime

    skill in effective communication is

listening. Listen to what is being said and

the way the message is presented to

    comprehend the entire meaning. Listening

allows us to understand, give appropriate

feedback and teaches us the skills to draft

    the speech, delivery and presentation.

BATEX -2010 made clear that every one is

a good teacher; provided we read his or her

    mind synchronize with words

The Winners do not do different things, but

they do things differently, a quote from

Mr.Kher comes to my mind, and I feel this is

an excellent stuff to link up to our BATEX -

2010. Our aim should be high, for low aim

has no thrill to raise the enthusiasm.

To aim high a challenge with utmost beliefin us, the vision does come in

reality. Expect a lot from yourself step up

and pay the fee that accomplishment

demands to move towards your goals. You

have to surrender what you are in

expectation of what you can become.

Everlastingly keep the sight on goal; for

sure, the path would emerge for you. Not

everybody can be lucky, but everybody can

    be determined.

Obstacles are nothing except a state of

mind and belief. The key to

    accomplishment resides within us; purely

    we need to introspect.

Hope to take this journey further along with

    us fellow Toastmasters towards victory

The first Gift of this Christmas seasonwas the successful completion ofBAHRAIN ADVANCEDTOASTMASTERS SPEECHCRAFT2010, an Advancement in Excellenceinitiative, for DELOITTE & TOUCHE,Bahrain. For me, it was a great sense

of personal achievement as Isuccessfully coordinated my very firstSpeech Craft program.

The icing on the cake for us BAT family,of course, is the prestigious completionof our fist speech craft initiative as wellas the financial benefit to our club.

This opportunity has made my belief inthe bounty of the Universe to provide, even stronger. I had a requirement formy DTM to obtain a point from either aYLP or a Speech Craft Program, and Iwas praying and hoping for one, whenout of the blue TM Jose Thomas callsme up and offers what I wished for on asilver platter; a speech craft program forDeloitte & Touche, Bahrain. Was Isurprised? No. I was astonished.

    Eight sessions of hectic scheduling

covered in five weeks and it was doneand done with great appreciation andacknowledgement from Deloitte, themanagement as well as the participants.

It all started on the magical evening of

    14th

. November 2010. Our club seniormentors were there at the inauguralsession in full strength to lend supportand guidance. I would like to place onrecord the valuable contribution madeby TM Jose Thomas, DTM Alex Ginete,TM Kamal Mohiyuddin, DTM AhmedRizvi, TM Clement Vinayak, TM N.T.

Arasan, TM Ashok Kumar to kick start

    the first session.

14th. November 2010, was theculmination of the perseverance of TMJose Thomas, whose vision ofspreading the value and benefit ofToastmasters learning platform hadencouraged him to talk about andpromote the Speech Craft program toMr. Paul Warman of Deloitte & Touche,Bahrain. In fact all the offices of Deloitte& Touche across the region are utilizingthis opportunity and experiencing itsbenefit.

    Leadership is about leading, motivating

and inspiring. This is the message I

received from TM Jose Thomas, who

trusted me with this prestigious program

and allowed me the freedom and space

to design and deliver the program, with

    fair evaluation and encouragement. I

learnt a lot and I enjoyed every moment

    of it.

Our President TM Kamal Mohiyuddinwas the silent strength behind me as I

ventured forth, with his appreciation and

    acknowledgement, backing me up.

The others were always there for me on

call, whenever I needed their help or

advice and to have TM Arasan as the

co-coordinator, ready to jump in,contribute and help was for me a

    powerful pillar of confidence.

    Bahrain Advanced Toastmasters is truly

advanced when it comes to helping one

    another, supporting one another and

coaching and mentoring one another togrow from strength to strength and to

    collectively become the best

Toastmasters and the best club on the

    Island.

    There were fourteen participants of

    Deloitte in the speech craft program;

each and every one of them excellent in

    their chosen profession of Audit.

Yet they too were able to experience a

    transformation within the eight sessions

over the five weeks, from being reluctant

public speakers to relaxed and confident

speakers, who were able to open up to

the enjoyment of learning to share their

personal stories, their innermostthoughts, their private feelings, right

there, in front of their colleagues and

    thereby bonding more intimately, with

    each other.

They collectively endorsed the view that

the speech craft sessions had brought

them closer together and now they feltlike family, even though they had been

working together for quite some time

and had always enjoyed a cordial

    professional relationship.

I felt enriched by the whole experience,

which was something I could not haveguessed at as I stepped in and took

    over the responsibility of coordinating

the Speech Craft Program for Deloitte.

Thank you BAT for this great gift of

    learning.

The patient waited foranother doctor. Then Dr.Khalid Amin arrived. Thepatient explained hissituation and enquiredabout his consultation.

Dr. Khalid gave a detailedlecture about his professionand told him that he is adoctorate in Chemistry. Ifyou have any queries aboutthat I am always here atyour service. I am expectinga Nobel Prize for myfindings and will then bebusy. May be after this youmay be able to see me onTelevision and newspapersonly.

After a while Dr. Usha camein wearing a colorful set of

clothes and knick-knacks.Seeing the attire of Dr. Ushahe relaxed. Finally he felthis most awaited Physiciandoctor had come. Heapproached her with utmostcare and respect. He metDr. Usha.

But Dr. Usha was too busyto notice him. Some howhe managed to talk to Usha.I am not consultingpatients at toastmastersmeeting. This was the firstresponse of the doctor. He

politely let her know that hewill wait till the end. But thedoctor insisted that he meether at her private clinic.

With the recommendationof Ashok the doctor agreedto spare some time afterthe meeting. Just after themeeting the patient rushedto the doctor and beggedfor help.He replied to all her queriesabout family members, love

before marriage and lifeafter marriage and thesalary. When dr.

Usha continued thequestioning he explodedwithout patience andobjected to her: what iswrong with you? Why do

you want to know mypersonal details?

This is my procedure. Ifyou dont have the patienceyou may leave now.

    Dear friends, we have only

Since the inception of Bahrain AdvancedToastmasters Club, the question

    "Whether we need an Advanced

Toastmasters Club?" was there in my

mind. Although I am a founder member

of BAT, this question never faded away.

So many senior Toastmasters who rose

to the position of District Governor were

able to achieve their goals through this

    Bahrain Advanced Toastmasters club;

however, there was a fear in everyone's

mind that BAT will not remain as a club

    for long.

Seven years have passed and here weare, still sailing through having

    experienced severe storms and down

falls. May be the strength of this

club lies in managing it with great

    difficulty.

Enjoying our meetings in the luxury of

Elite Suites at the beginning, the clubhas established its reputation of an

    Advanced Toastmasters Club, though

compelled to move out of the luxury

zone to a subtle BSTD hall with self

    financed family breakfast atmosphere.

I am really proud to have been a

member of this club for the past seven

    years.

As for now, with the creation of two

more Advanced Clubs namely VisionAdvanced Toastmasters (VAT) and

    Krypton Advanced Toastmasters (KAT),

our club really faces the challenge to

prove that only "Quality" can sustain

    longevity.

Recent BATEX was one of the best

attempts to redefine the quality of BATand many other projects like quality

    Speech craft, YLP and advanced

    educational programs could further

    strengthen our clubs stability.

I take this opportunity to commend the

steps taken by the current Officers todiverse the experiences and talents of

BA Toastmasters in various outside the

club activities and would request all the

members of BAT to extend their fullest

    support towards these programs.

Speaking and writing are both skills that require a lotof practice. One cannot be a perfect speaker without practice.Speaking cannot be learnt through on line or athome. It needs to be practiced at a platform likeToastmasters club.

There are 10 things to be remembered whiledelivering a speech:

    1. The speaker should begin his speechenthusiastically

    2. His speech should not be vary of essentials3. He should not elaborate on insignificant points

    4. No repetition5. He should not assert one thing and also its

opposite6. Proper pronunciation must be there7. Speaker should not confuse the listeners8. Clarity of thought in his enunciation9. The speaker should not speak of gossips or

irrelevant details10. The last thing is the speech should be of some use

    to the listeners
