Texting & Driving with
Officer Moore
Officer Moore of the Dardanelle Po-
lice Department provided an oppor-
tunity for our students to understand
the consequences of driving while
under the influence and texting and
driving. While the students enjoyed
their time, they gained an important
understanding about these issues. Thank you, Officer Moore, for giving your time to
work with our students.

Earned Honor unit with distinction. After having practice over it for the majority of the day on the 5th and 8th, the Sand
Lizard battalion had the tri-annual inspection on the 9th of April. While we waited for the inspectors to arrive, we got in for-
mation and open ranks in preparation for the in-ranks inspection, the first area to be scored. Our inspectors were 4 men from
the National Guard. They were looking for gigs, or things wrong with the uniform, like crooked name tags and not having black
socks, we are proud to say that not many were found. As they were checking for that, they asked each cadet two questions
from a set based on things all cadets are supposed to know. They range from what color socks do you wear with the uniform,
to what regulation covers the wear of the uniform (AR 670-1 and CCR 145-2, just so you know what they had to remember).
The cadets were stuck standing still in formation for over an hour. Two fainted, two others felt a little sick, but those were
the only problems.
After the in-ranks inspection was Color Guard, with Drill and Ceremony right after. Color Guard members were Jesse Rhoads
(rifle), Daniel Hernandez (rifle), Destiny Moughon (state flag), and Tiffany Overton(US flag and commander). D&C was exe-
cuted in platoons of 12 cadets, led by the company 1sgts, Cadet Rebecca Henderson (Alpha) and Cadet Rafael Andrade
(Bravo). Other than a few command and in-step problems, everything went very well.
Fourth event in the day was the staff briefing, being inspected by Juan Fuentes. The Battalion Commander and the staff
(there’s 5 staff members) all had to give a briefing about themselves, what their job is, how they do it, and what else they
wanted to do in/for the program. After each person, the inspector asked questions about things that were not in the briefing
that he wanted to know, such as further elaboration on a certain area of their job or after graduation plans. In this, it was all
perfect scores, not one point missed. Last in the inspection, after the curriculum knowledge portion, were staff area inspec-
tions. In this, the inspector actually looked at all the things the staff was responsible for taking care of to make sure it was
all up to date, correct, and to recommend how it could be better. The fifth event, curriculum knowledge, went wonderfully. He
had nothing but good things to say, and we had a perfect score once again.
At the end of the day and the debriefing, we had been awarded Honor Unit with Distinction, and were all very happy and re-
lieved.

Tues. December 25, 2012
1221 hours
Normal days are always the same-- every hour, every day, and every week. But this is not one of those
days.
My name is Dante Johnson, and along with my girlfriend Jasmine Solotov, we are the last survivors of the
apocalypse a.k.a. Judgment day, which happened four days ago. The beginning of this incident started
when Jasmine and I were at a café not too far up the mountains; then we saw it happen.
It was December 21st. The things we saw would haunt us forever. We saw a nuclear missile fly towards
the nuclear power plant that served as one of the few power sources for the town we lived in. The explo-
sion rocked the whole countryside and shook the mountainside. Jasmine and I made it out of the café
before it could come crashing down.
I feel sorry for those who didn’t make it out. We held a memorial service for those who were crushed un-
derneath the mountain slide. It was a painful task to make the gravestone with all the names.
We were scared to go down the mountain and find out what has happened to this once beautiful land-
scape. We decided to head for the top of the mountain to have a better look at the landscape and then
go down and assess the damage to the land. When we reached the mountain top, what we saw broke our
hearts.
The landscape had become almost a heap of ash. Each time we turned our heads, all we saw was gray
everywhere. We even saw some small bits of ash falling from the sky, almost like a nuclear winter.
“We need to get back to town and see what we can salvage,” I told her. “We’ll need it.”
“Ok,” she replied nervously. “I’m scared.”
“I know. I am too.”
We started to scale down the mountain and noticed that the entire mountainside was black with piles of
ash and black trees. Such a barren empty wasteland caused by a single explosion had been unimagina-
ble until it had happened a few minutes ago.
While we were going down the mountain we came across some skeletons that had been turned a tannish
brown color, and their teeth had turned black. Black teeth are very unusual after a large nuclear explo-
sion. Next to the skeletons are the clothes they wore; shirts are half-burned, pants are black and almost
completely burned through. Backpacks that hikers wore are burned into, but the oddest thing is that all
the food and some water are still intact.
“Wait here for a minute,” I told Jasmine. “Just don’t touch any of the skeletons, ok?”
“Ok,” she replied.

I went to my scrap metal of a truck that belonged to me. The thing that I keep under my
seat is my backpack with all of the school supplies and books that I use during the
school day. I also keep are Meals Ready to Eat, known by soldiers as an M.R.E.s. I usually
keep at least two or three underneath the passenger seat. I looked underneath the seats
and grabbed my backpack from under the driver’s seat and the three M.R.E.s that were
under the passenger seat.
The one thing that I had to do was to take some stuff out of my bag, which I really hate
doing, but I got some stuff out of the bag and carried the M.R.E.s in my backpack to Jas-
mine. I am able to write this in the journal I keep in my bag in case anything like this ever
happened in my life. And people thought that this was a silly idea, but I proved them
wrong already just by writing this right now.
“Hey,” I called to her. “I’m back.”
“About time,” she replied.
“What do you mean?” I asked her.
“It was getting a little spooky around her.”
“Sorry about how long I was gone. Salvaging is not as easy as it looks though.”
“Whatever.”
I showed her what was inside the bag, and the expression on her face told me that she
was feeling sad.
“Is this all you found?” she asked me.
“It was all I could find,” I told her.
She sighed. “Ok.”
I suing the bag onto my back and began to walk down the mountain side; then I looked
back at her and noticed she hadn’t moved an inch.
“You ok, Jazz?” I asked her.
“I just can’t believe this happened so quickly,” she replied sadly.
“I know. I can’t either,” I told her. “Come on, let’s go.”
We began to walk down the mountainside and towards town, hoping that we would find
someone else that survived. We need to find more people, resources, along with food,
shelter, and water. I know there will be other things that we will encounter along the way,
but for now we can only rely on each other, and that was it.
This is Dante Johnson and if you are reading this, then you are a survivor.
