Sura al-Maida the fifth (5) Sura of The Holy Qur’an begins with :

O ye who believe! fulfil (all) obligations

Islam provides comprehensive guidelines for all people to follow in different walks of life. The guidance it gives includes the social, eco-nomic, political, moral and spiritual aspects of life. Qur’an reminds man the purpose of life on earth, and his duties and obligations towards him-self, his community, and his Creator and demands “O ye who believe! fulfil (all) obligations”. It is the mercy of Allah, (Subhan Wa Taala) His immense grace and the completion of his favours upon us that He has taught us about the months of the year also.

Assalamu alaikum,

Al-hamdulillah here is the third issue of Ta’aruf. MAKTABA-E-

SALIK is thankful to all brothers and sis-ters in Islam for the feed back. I receive many emails with “Dua” for me and thanking me for such a n i n f o r m a t i v e enewslet ter . Al l Praise to Allah (S.W.T.), my position in this enewsletter is not more than a com-piler of other’s work. We believe in Allah alone, same Holy Book The Qur’an and the same Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.), but the difference in Muslims of earlier time and now is remarkable. We need to find out what is missing to be a Muslim like Muslims were in the earlier time of Islam?

Your brother and friend, in need of your “Dua”.

[al-Israa : 17:1] Glory to (Allah) Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless,- in order that We might show him some of

Our Signs: for He is the One Who heareth and seeth (all things).

The night journey of Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) is perplexing to the imagination of non believers that is why it is not given any heed. Some of the Makkans asked Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) to describe the mosque of Jerusalem, though Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) had never visited there but the description was correct and Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) was successful. Some of the compan-ions of the Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) differed with regards to the actual na-ture of his ascent. Among them some believed it was physical, or spiritual or in dream. Most of the companions and their successors hold the doctrine of physical ascent. The word used in The Holy Qur’an is :

There are so many incomprehensible things, like Predestination, Paradise, Hell etc. Man can not comprehend those things due to the limitations of knowledge and experiences he has. We confess that we are not in better position to give light in an unseen thing. Doesn’t God have power enough to lift human body to Haven? Indeed He had shown this power by taking Jesus to Heaven. To deny is to limit the power of The God.

From the verses of The Holy Qur’an and the traditions of The Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) the Prophet’s night journey from the Holy Kaaba to the mosque of the Jerusalem and from there crossing the seven Heavens up to the Lote-tree which is the farthest limit of man and angles has been firmly established. The Holy Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) alone went little further and spoke with Allah (Subhan Wa Taala) behind a veil and received revelations which no mortal had attained before. In Sura an-Najm (the star) of The Holy Qur’an it is mentioned with beautiful verses as:

Quranic vocabulary they estab-lish, they are steadfast

In above verse 2 of Sura al-Maida Allah (Subhan Wa Taala) warns about the sacred months of the year. The names of these sacred months are mentioned in an authentic hadith said by the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassalam), in the Farewell Pilgrimage. According to this hadith, the sacred months are four, three in succession—that is, Dhul-Qi`dah, Dhul-Hijjah, and Muharram and the fourth is Rajab, which comes between Jumada Thani and Sha`ban. Rajab is the seventh month of Islamic Calendar.

The starting point for the Islamic Calen-dar was fixed at the date of the new moon dur-ing the first lunar month in the year which Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam), and his followers left Makkah for Medina. The abbrevia-tion A.H. stands for “Anno Hegirea” (Latin for the year of the Hegira , the Hegira is pronounced Hijra). This is believed to have occurred on 20th. September 622 C.E.

Events of Rajab: • The Holy Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassalam),

ascended to Heaven on the 27th of Rajab on either Sunday or Monday.

• Hadhrat Bilal Ibn Haritha (R.A) brought a congregation of four hundred men named Banu Muzeena in the presence of the Holy Prophet. They all embraced Islam and be-came followers of the Holy Prophet in the year 5 A.H

• The battle of Tabook took place in the year 9 A.H. This was the last battle which the Holy Prophet participated in.

• The second Oath of Aqabah took place in Rajab, 12 A.H.

Deaths in Rajab:

• Imam Abu Hanifa (R.A) passed away on the 15th of Rajab 150 A.H.

• Imam Shafi'ee (R.A) passed away on the 14th Rajab 204 A.H.

• Imam Muslim (R.A) passed away on the 24th of Rajab 261 A.H.

• Imam Nawawee (R.A) passed away on the 14th of Rajab 677 A.H.

[1] By the Star when it goes down,- [2] Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. [3] Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. [4] It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: [5] He was taught by one Mighty in Power, [6] Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); [7] While he was in the highest part of the horizon: [8] Then he approached and came closer, [9] And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; [10] So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. [11] The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. [12] Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? [13] For indeed he saw him at a second descent, [14] Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: [15] Near it is the Garden of Abode. [16] Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery un-speakable!) [17] (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! [18] For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest!
