TOURISMFILM

Film tourism or currently popularly known as screen tourism has received escalating attention

since the filming of international movies such as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. The concept occurs when film location tremendously help boost a local area as an interesting travel destination. Known as a tropical country with abundance of mesmerizing landscapes and views, Malaysia has enjoyed numerous benefits rose from film tourism. International movies such as Police Story 3, Don, Entrapment, Anna and the King, Summer Holiday, Blackhat, Indochine, Thunderbolt, Young and Dangerous 5, The Viral Factor, Kabali and many more has helped promote Malaysia ever since early 1990s. Locally produced movies have also triggers tourist desires especially the locals

to explore domestic destinations. For example, the shooting of film Redha was conducted in Pulau Redang, Terengganu. This movie is about a married couple facing a hard time accepting the fact that their only son is an autistic. Raising Danial was tough especially when they hardly know anything about such mental condition. Another film, Ombak Rindu chose Cameron Highlands, Pahang as one of their shooting location. This area of 71,000ha indeed has a lot to offer to tourists such as visiting the strawberry farms and tea plantations. Beautiful landscape, natural surroundings and dark mossy forests has been a very appealing attraction to the tourists. No wonder tourists’ influx has increased into the sprawling hills station over the years. Hence, the next time you watch a movie, that casting location might just be your next awaited travel destination.

Honestly, there is no hotel booking website (provider) that always offers the lowest prices.

Each has advantages and disadvantages. If you have time and are interested in finding the most attractive offer, you may compare the price in advance. First, decide what you want to book hotel along with the date and length of stay. This can be done through a popular booking website; Agoda to find the right hotel. Agoda is a highly reliable and trustworthy provider. Besides, you may get a cashback offer through ShopBack worth of RM40 depends on the type of room reserved. Other than Agoda, you may make a comparison of room rates with the other providers via Trivago which various of providers such as Booking.com, AsiaRooms, Hotels, LateRooms and many more. Make sure the hotel, room type and date of check-in must be the same for comparison. Next, tax or service charge - Check the right amount of tax or service charges before making payment. The total amount payable should higher than the price of a room because the service charge and tax. Usually, most of the provider only displays the price of the room only, not including tax or

service charge. However, if you want to check the actual amount of the reservation, including tax and service charge without having to pay for it, can only create a ‘dummy fees’ which supposedly wants to make a reservation but did not make any payments. With this will make you more confident with the total amount charged before the actual booking. You should also check for the breakfast either it is included or not. Some providers offer the cheapest deals, but there is no breakfast. However, breakfast or not depends on your own needs. Other than that, the term of non-refundable / cancelation fee / free cancelation - This is the important thing when booking accommodation online (In the case if you want to cancel the reservation). It should be checked whether the booking fee cannot be returned? The cancellation fees applied? Or whether the cancellation can be done for free and get the money back in full? For those of you who want to cancel your reservation, there are some providers take about 3-4 days prior to stay. That is, if you want to cancel your reservation in less than 3 days prior to check-in date, your reservation will be forfeited

by the number of booking one night. There is also a provider that does not charge for cancellation fee. They all depend on the conditions imposed by a hotel. Therefore, be sure to read right cancellation terms and conditions before booking. Who knows, if there is a next obstacle before you leave. Such things must also be taken into your consideration. Before making payment, first check all the information such as room type, date of check-in, payment methods either use paypal, credit card or debit card and also servicing the hidden charges or any charges if any. Make sure you have an active email confirmation for any business, as well as the question of cancellation made by email. You should understand of a guaranteed reservation, which means you’ve paid for your reservation in advance, and the hotel must hold the room for you. The other term is a confirmed reservation means that you have not yet paid, but the hotel agrees to hold a room for you based on some condition. For example, in a typical confirmed reservation, the hotel may agree to “hold the room for you until 6 p.m.” on a specific day. If you show up before 6

p.m., then the hotel must give you a room, but if you fail to meet a condition, then the hotel does not have to offer you a room. If you make the reservation through the provider such Agoda, they will fully charge in 3-4 days in advance, if there is no cancellation have been made by you. The last part, the provider will email you the confirmation letter with the confirmation number that you may use during check in procedure.

Technology in Teaching and Learning

The definition of “technology” is very wide and if this question is

being asked to 10 peoples, it will bring several meanings by their own understanding. Same goes to the previous literatures that resulted in various definitions. Initially, technology is viewed as configuration which relies on subjectively determined set of processes and products (Sahal, 1981). According to Lan and Young (1996), technology is a tool in gaining any result, the way to solve a problem, receiving knowledge and information, and completing task with skills.

The technology is growing rapidly in the market with new software and devices keep cropping out from time to time just to achieve the

main goal in making our life easier and keep connected. Some people believe that technology

w i l l hurt and destroy the future of the next generation especially

students because of over-reliance on the technology. Even t h o u g h it is arguable, majority b e l i e v e s the technology itself will lower down the youngsters i n t e r p e r s o n a l skills. In some other thought, the best way in educating is through the b l e n d e d learning. The form of technology w i t h t h e

combination of face to face interaction and different method of

delivery are the best elaboration of

blended learning (Krause, 2007).

Nowadays, the 21st c e n t u r y technique in teaching and learning at school or even

u n i v e r s i t i e s are totally

changing as compared to the

previous century where teachers or

educators are relying on the textbook and lectures, and

students do their assignment by just using hand writings.

Apparently, this happened because of the evolutions of technology

that keep moving and generation of “digital native” who grown in line

with computer atmosphere. The changes by any means, the educators should follow the era to capture students’ intention in the classroom because current learners will learn based on VARK styles that consist of Visual, Auditory, Read or Write and Kinaesthetic. In this case, educators will play the important role in delivering knowledge and information in variety of teaching methodologies, and it will be easier if the element of technology is embedded.

The implementation of technology will bring lots of benefits that can boost students’ capacity, productivity and performance during their studies. This is why the tertiary institutions’ overseas have integrated technology in their style of teaching. This kind of teaching method will improve the students’ understanding rather than just by giving a lecture without any clear picture on what has been explained. Audio or video presentation by the lecturers will means a lot to the students and they can easily understand about the process, procedures or knowledge on the particular topic or subject. The level of students’ comprehension in class can be enhanced by delivering the lesson in such way. Educators should be creative in developing idea to make an audio or video presentation that closely related to the topic or maybe it can be taken from any other website via online as a point of reference. I - L e a r n ,

Socrative, Kahoot, Poll Everywhere and Quiz Revolution are the examples of tools that can be used in assessing and keep tracking the student progress. These online web-based teaching platforms can easily be accessed by student anywhere, everywhere in anytime. Educators can also upload their notes, slides, quiz or test online without any hassle. Those kind of program will keep track the total number of visitors (students) daily and if the test or quiz is done online, the program will automatically calculate the total marks and frequency for each of the students who have taken the assessment. Certain university employed online learning without the need for the students to attend the class or student just meet once a month and the rest will be online class and normally this privilege are given to part time student. Technology will make the knowledge and learning

more accessible. Present l y ,

increasing number of students that work or living away from the university and the adaption of technology in teaching and learning will help reducing the students time and cost constraints. Importantly, students can work and organize their own time to complete their assignment and task. This kind of teaching method are becoming trending nowadays. As all know, the “Generation Z” and “Millennial Generation” are identical as their habits is the most higher in media consumption as compared to the other generations. Those generations will rather spend their time more on social media such as Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Tweeter than focusing on reading textbook. Mostly the students in this day and age are among both generation, so, as educators, they should challenge their self to get along with the mass and social media to create the new environment in teaching and learning. Additionally, technology will retain information better. The way the youngster learn is not just by reading on sentences, but they are more describable with pictures, videos and such. Traditional method of teaching will certainly make student bored if educators continuously practicing it and somehow could lower the students motivation. It is believed that each of the students owned a smartphone that comes with internet access and it is possible for them to search an extra resources and information regarding their study. This will also educate the student to treasure anything using technology advancement by their own. By putting this practice, it can increase the level of interest in learning throughout their study that may resulting a good academic performance. Every now and then, the normal way of teaching by using whiteboard and referring to the textbook can burden student especially those in primary and secondary schools because they are carrying heavy books and notes every day to school (NavajoCode, 2015). This problem can be resolved if the educator is to deliver their teaching and learning via technology. Mainly, there are

increasing number of book publishers diversified the way in doing business by producing E-Book to the market. The educator or student can easily download the E-Books and store them in their laptop, smartphone or maybe a tab to bring along in classroom. Education with added technology will carry a new impact to the field of higher education in our country. From the evolving of technological era these days, it is noticeable that our future essentially rely and focused on technology. The technology is not just benefits the educators or students but will also significantly contributes to the industry or workplace. Early exposure to the use of technology that began at early stage will help our youngster in the future in finding jobs. The familiarization on this particular trend will make them more comfortable and capable in carry out the duties entrusted.

Hands down. Flush impurities out of your system by just

drinking water infused with fruits is the perfect option for us. A very appealing

one. But is it so? Your calorific sins from years of association with junk foods, boozing up with friends and supplements your gym instructor prescribed you to take can be erased in no time with this fancy juice? Mm... Back in my high school years, my science teacher never taught me this. What I know is our kidneys and livers do all this detoxification, and yeah... doctors too, when toxicity stroke their patients. Then, where the heck that this idea came from? Was it from the herbal gurus? How about the capitalists concocting their miracle products as part of marketing strategy? Incidentally, there is no specific agreed on a definition of what these toxins really are in the first place! Have you ever asked yourself ‘which toxins are being removed when I drink lemon-ginger detox drink or immune-boosting strawberry smoothie?’ or you just accept the simple fact that ‘every toxin will be removed if you drink this and that’. Don’t you think that you yourself have been conditioned by this fancy idea? It is mind excused as your lifestyle implications of a poor diet, eating many junk foods, high calorie food or lack of exercise cannot be fixed with this simple quick fix. The idea was originated from physicians in the ancient Egypt, and started to take off in the 19th century, when biochemists and microbiologists support the theory of auto-intoxication where poisonous toxin

substances produced within the body, thus proposing the need for detoxification. Although this concept has received criticisms from the scientific world since it was not backed by sound scientific evidence, this mass delusion idea is still being accepted and embraced tightly by the community. With this acceptance, the industry makes tons of money from this fancy fad! There is no credible evidence that could prove this detox delusion is really cleansing your body. But one thing is for sure, it will definitely cleanse your time, hope and bank accounts. Moreover, all of us need to be reminded that our body can detox and eliminates harmful substances of its own with an efficient detoxing system. As long as you drink enough water to help your organs do their work! Next time, instead of dipping one or two slices of apple in your drink, just eat that whole apple. Or if you ever think of grinding a kilo of kale to make smoothies, please take some time to cook that kale and turn it to more appealing dish.

YESCHEF!!There is no democracy in the

kitchen. Always do it the Chef’s way, even if you think that you have your own way. Whatever the chef said is a law!! If you’re a ‘commis’, whatever comes from the Sous chef or your Chef de Partie is also considered as a law. If you’re a 45 years old investment broker who became a commis, that 29 year old chef is still your freaking boss and when he tells you to cut his way, you have to cut it his way.

On time is late, late is unacceptable. Show

up early to have your mise-en-place. If your shift starts at 10am, you are expected to be ready before hand, fully dressed uniform with your sharpen knives and start working promptly at 10am sharp. Working in the kitchen is a battle against time and there is no room for playing around. By the way, your punctuality says a lot about you!

WHENYOU ARRIVED ON TIME,

YOURE 15 MINUTES LATE

Mise en place or prep is the preparation and setup before cooking takes

place. You’ll be cutting vegetables, making stock, boning and filleting. As the chef spent a lot of time to do this, it is very important that other people do not mess around with what he prepared. Faults in prep, will lead to big problems, especially when the restaurant operation has already started.

NEVER TOUCHTHE OTHERS

MISE / PREP.

Unspoken code of the professional kitchen; it

is not a complete uniform set unless you have your own knives! Most of the chef tends to have their own knives that provide them with the ability to perform at a certain level. Yes, different knives have different function and of course you have to get the knife skills. Thus, never touch someone else knives unless you’re ready to get yelled at and prepared to get a punch in the face.

MY KNIFEIS

MY KNIFE!

Everyone’s got a task to finish, do not ever

think someone can help you out to finish your job. During operation time, this is the most hectic time as the chef needs to prepare and cook the food to fulfil the hungry stomach. Do not expect others to help you as the things get hot on the line; everyone is typically very specialized in doing their own task. You only assist others as the chef asked you to do so.

YOU START IT….YOU OWN IT

Its crazy busy, but you need to stay calm, listen intently

and pay attention to an order from the chef. Make sure you always pay attention, as you don’t want to get the wrong

information. It’s hectic time as everybody is mad busy and if you got the wrong information in doing the task, it might slow down the working momentum in the entire kitchen. Every second counts in the kitchen.

I’M NOTA PARROT!!

I DON’TREPEAT MY SELF.

It is important for chefs to taste all the food that they already

prepared. Before you serve the food to the guest, make sure that you have already tasted it and satisfy with the result. You have to taste it constantly, since the seasoning flavours always needs adjustments

after cooking, resting, chilling and reheating the food.

DON’T ASK METO TASTE

IF YOUHAVEN’T!

Not drinking enough water in the kitchen can cause

a negative impact since the working environment is very nerve-wracking and hot. Dehydration can cause more immediate problems like headaches, fatigue, joint pain, inability to concentrate, nausea, vomiting, and memory loss. Obviously, suffering from any combination of those symptoms is likely to make for an unpleasant day in the kitchen where not much work is getting done

STAYHYDRATED

With minimal size of kitchen space, yet filled with

dangerous tools and utensils, the team should be aware of ‘others space’. For instance, anyone who walks into the kitchen with hot pot or pans must say hot pots! Behind! Or back! Everyone needs to

be attentive whenever you are walking, standing or just around the back of someone. Imagine turning towards a hot pot and plate probably will lead to serious injuries.

‘BEHIND’‘BACK’

If your knife needs cleaning, always

remember do not drop that fifteen inches of sharpened steel into the sink. Someone’s hands will be going in there and can get badly wounded. This applies to any sharpened tools from the small size of paring knives or blades from machines. You can either wash this tool by yourself or put the dangerous tools in the proper place before cleaning.

NO KNIFEIN SINK!

masjidpelancongan

Mohamed Muneer Samsudin, Siti Rokyah Md Zain, Radzuan Noor Armia

World Trade Center, New York.

OFFSHORE CATERING CREWTHE LIFE OF UNSUNG HEROESMohd Aliff Abdul Majid, Nazarudin Derani, Zulkifli Ahmad

When people talk about offshore jobs, they might think of the

project managers, engineers, technicians, drillers and other familiar positions. Little is known about the offshore catering crews. Something that is peculiar to some individuals. Likewise, the pay is as everyone expects. Yes, their wages are higher than normal catering workers. We would say doubled (or even tripled!). But, it was not easy money. They work for 12 hours every day without fail for 60 days! Yes, no off day. Recently, have you watched Deepwater Horizon movie? The story is based on true event in 2010. How simple mistake and erroneous decision caused catastrophic explosion. It’s like, boom! That is what they lived in. But, that’s the worst-case scenario. They are risk-takers, indeed. All of the crews share the same risk. Their work should not be only good, but it needs to be perfect. To get paid is one story, to survive is quite another. You can never be sure of what might happen. Of course, we hope everything works just fine. Anecdotal evidence shows a number of negative behavioral consequences resulting from working in isolated and confined workplaces. Stress, homesick, anxiety, discomfort, nausea and the list goes on. The first author experienced motion sickness when got on the vessel for the first time! So, there are many factors could influence your mood while working. But, it’s not like years ago when there was no network connection. Back then, it was like totally isolated and communication was restricted with the outside world. Today, the work areas are accommodated with Wi-Fi, karaoke room, pool table, gymnasium etc. And, the bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning. Still, the recreational facilities provided are

depending on the vessels and platforms. What do you need to become one of offshore catering crews? First, you need to attend a basic offshore safety induction and emergency training (BOSIET). It’s a three-day course module. That will allow you to have the certificate as the minimum requirement to work offshore. Others are a passport, food handling certificate, marine medical checkup and seaman book. Oh, and a brave heart. Why? Da, you are not applying to work in a bank. What did they do? They prepare food and beverage for the other offshore workers as well as the housekeeping and laundry. Everyday, preparing three-meal a day is a must and free-flow snacks. Throughout the day, complaints are hard to resist. The night shift requires them to prepare bakery items for the consumption of tomorrow. That does not yet consider the hard work of transferring tons of raw ingredients into their food storage. Plus, that is also not taking into account the extreme weather, the midnight delivery and shortage of labors. In some cases, the raw ingredients could not be transported when extreme weather strikes. So, they need to carefully work on with what’s left. What if the food runs out? That is the thing they need to figure it out. They always do. But, one thing for sure. There is no convenience shop. This article is not to tell you that it is the most difficult job in the world. But, it appears as one of risk-taking jobs. And, one of many jobs that allows you to work and travel at the same time. It is not difficult yet, it might not be that easy. By all accounts, only the one who durable can stand. Their stories will continue. This is the story of one of many unsung heroes. And, we will keep telling stories about them.

AM I NOT WORTH IT?Wan Mardiana Wan Musa, Noorimah Misnan and Jusniza Jamal

Recently our community in UiTM(T) was shaken up by the news about some of our respected

and dearest colleagues of their maladies. Some are terminally ill. Lists of common yet chronic diseases such as hypertension, high cholestrol, diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, stroke and many more hit us like a tsunami. To some of us, the mention of these diseases might not be alarming, until they actually knock on our door. As we all know, we are living in the same working environment. As lecturers, we usually punch in early in the morning and punch out after 5 o’clock everyday. The working hours for lecturers are quite flexible as long as we comply with the 38.9 hours per week’s requirement. During that 8 hours, we are occupied with classes, making lesson plans, doing research, students’ consultation, preparing proposal for various activities as well as getting involved in students’ activities. Some of us are busy with supervising students’ theses and industrial trainings. Not to mention our leisurely activities such as ‘bekwoh’ and ‘makan-makan’ which play significant roles in strenghtening our bonds. Due to these factors, there is a high possibbility of contracting similar diseases as our friends’. In living our daily routines, some of us might forget the importance of taking care of ourselves. Yes, some of us actually forgot to LOVE ourselves more than anything

else in this world. We are so busy doing too many things such as making sure that every box in our checklist has been ticked, wearing different hats as lecturers, parents, spouses and friends etc and forgot to wear the ‘ME’ hat. We failed to acknowledge that we are as important as our spouses, children or our jobs or to put it simply, we have failed to remember that we should love ourselves first before we can love someone else. Full stop. While you are reading this, ask yourselves, ‘Am I not worth it?’, ‘Am I not worth my time?’. If the answer is YES, then ask yourselves the second question. ‘What can I do to take care of myself so that I am healthy and feel good about myself?’ My dear colleagues, if you have not really taken care of yourselves, you may want to start now. Here are the 3 basic habits you need to observe. You need to eat right, sleep well and exercise regularly. NO EXCUSE. Remember, NO EXCUSE!!!

EAT RIGHTStart your new habit by eating right. Eat right means you eat according to your body needs. The simplest rule is to go by the rule of hand. Take carbs the size of your fist, protein the size of your palm and fibre the size of your hand. You can never go wrong with this basic eating rule. It’s a good start if you have never tried it before.

After your body familiarizes itself to the above habit, you may want to improve your diet. Start with swapping fried chicken with grilled chicken. You can steam or pan-grilled your meat and seafood. Avoid deep-frying them. A healthy diet that’s low in saturated fat, cholestrol and salt and high in fibre, lowers high blood pressure and cholestrol level. Add more colours to your plate such as green leafy vegetables, carrots, radishes, tomatoes, cucumbers and cauliflowers. Different kind of colours serve different kind of benefits. Make sure that at least there are three variant of colours of veggies on your plate every time you eat.

SLEEP WELLSleep is very important to rest our mind and body. Individuals’ ideal sleeping hours may vary according to their daily routines. However, most medical experts recommend seven to eight hours of sleep at the same time every night to ensure quality sleep. Besides that, avoiding caffeinated drinks in the afternoon and before bedtime may help a person to sleep easily. Another important tips to promote good sleep is to toss away your mobile phones, ipads, watches, laptops and other gadgets as far as you can from your bed, so that they are unreachable. Some people take sleeping for granted. Not having a good sleep routine could lead to the feeling of sluggishness and grogginess during the day. Chronic sleep deprivation contributes to obesity, heart disease and diabetes, among other health hazards.

EXERCISE REGULARLYThis last sister of good habits is usually forgotten and unfavoured. Most of office workers like us accused lack of time as the culprit responsible for not exercising. Even though we have the knowledge of its importance, most of us are still struggling in breaking the habit – the habit of

being a couch potato. Some also complained that they are exhausted after long hours of working and would prefer to relax once they are home. Some also reasoned that they have to do house chores after returning from work and thus, have no time to exercise. Believe it or not, to exercise, you don’t need to skip chores or your other activities. You don’t have to allocate long hours just to do some workouts. You can wall sit while watching tv, say for example 10 minutes a day or you can squat for 20 to 30 times while showering. Even though, brisk-walking, running, cycling or swimming for 20 to 30 minutes, three times a week are the most recommended exercise regimes to lower bad cholestrol, a simple 10 - minute exercise every day is also great for your health.

These three basic good habits are not as easy as they sound. It takes determination and discipline to make it happen. The key to success lies in our own hands. We are very fortunate that our campus is equipped with facilities such as gymnasium, football field, badminton courts and many more. The bookings for using these facilities can be done through the Sports Unit. Besides that, our campus is also strategically situated facing the sea where we can enjoy brisk-walking or jogging by the beach. If we exit via Post A, we can find a jogging track, a playground, public toilets and various ‘warongs’ alongside the beach. If we exit via Post B, we can also find a very nice family park equipped with a playground, jogging track as well as public toilets and a convenient store nearby. In a nutshell, taking care of ourselves is not that hard if we have the dedication and will power to do it. If we are determined enough, no excuse can stop us from taking good care of our health. Love yourselves, take care of yourselves, because you are worth it!

Reverse parking had been greatly emphasized in oil and gas industry with the main objective for

security purposes. According to Webster’s New World College dictionary (2010), reverse parking means “the action of parking a vehicle with its side parallel to the curb or the side of the road. It can also be defined as a driving technique that facilitates such parking”. In UiTM Terengganu, Dungun for instance, under the 5S Quality Unit, committees are working all out to promote and educate UiTMT’s drivers to practice reverse parking as well. Great efforts had been done to encourage drivers. Among them are to place ‘Congratulations sticker’ on cars that reverse park. Signage on ‘Reverse Parking Zone’ also had been establishes at certain parking areas (Block 9, Sarjana and Hotel UiTM to name a few) acting as a gentle reminder to all drivers. In fact, a demonstration on reverse parking had been organized in UiTMT from the Safety Department committees, with the prime objectives to increase awareness. There are a lot of advantages of reverse parking. First and foremost, it can increase the driver’s safety. If you need to leave a parking area quickly, your reverse parking car can assist in better expedition. Additionally, reversing your car near to a wall can assist in preventing thieves from breaking into your bonnet and car. Additionally, incase of fire emergency at the building, you can drive your car at great ease where you just have to press the fuel pedal and go. Parking accidents report for an enormous amount of an insurance claims. Psychologically, drivers are fresh in the morning. Therefore, they can pay more attention to reverse park when they first arrive at the office as compared to in the evening where most drivers are more fatigue. A recent article by Mr Phillips (2016) in The Star dated 5th Dec really captured our attention. The writer basically disagreed with reverse parking idea and claimed that everyone can save all minutes that will add up to hours over lifetime- time that can be spend not sitting in the car if everyone stops reversing into the parking bay. It’s only his point of views, but we see the advantages more than the disadvantages. The writer also highlighted that it’s a disaster when a three-point-turn becomes an 83-point, five-minute exercises. Anyway, we do have to agree with this part and admit that reverse parking may take some time when drivers need to reverse it in a parking spot but the benefits awaiting long override the time it takes. Thus, it’s a good practice where everyone should slowly adopt and adapting it for a long-term quality of life.
