1. Hi Sarah!

We’re having a great time here in New York. Staying with Aunt Meg and

Mary-Beth is great fun . I really like those skyscrapers. And walking through

Central Park is so interesting. Mary-Beth took me there yesterday. She’s

very good at skating. She likes jogging and swimming, too. You can do lots

of sports in the Big Apple – actually, that’s just another name for New York. If

you’re interested in watching American football, you can go to a Giants’ game

If you like seeing things from the air, you can try a helicopter tour. We went

on one and it was really exciting.

Well , more about that in my next postcard!

Love, David

2. Shopping

Before the Dixons went to Seahouses, Mrs Dixon needed some things from the

shop. She told Sara to bring three tins of cat food, four small bottles of water and a

box of muesli. Sarah didn’t listen to her mother. She bought the wrong things and

forgot to bring the muesli. Mrs Dixon didn’t want any chocolate, but Sarah bought

five bars of chocolate.

When she came home, Sarah’s mother was angry. She shouted: “You never listen

to what I tell you.” Sarah said: “Sorry, mum, but I’m so excited about our trip to

Seahouses.”

Then Dad came in and said: “Don’t worry! We can get all those things in

Seahouses, too.”

The waves throw the helpless ship here and there.

In the morning of September 7th Grace Darling looks out of the window of her

room.

Grace can see something – but she doesn’t know what it is.

With her father’s telescope she can see that it is a wreck on Big Harcar Rock.

Mr. Darling and his daughter row to Big Harcar Rock in their little boat to save

the men.

They see some people from the ship; they’re clinging to the wet rock.

The boat is too small to take them all back to the lighthouse.

Some of the men must wait until the boat comes back again.

Grace jumps from the boat to the rock. She stays on the rock together with the

frightened men.

Suddenly, through the rain, they see the boat with Grace’s father. Grace waves

to her father.

At last they’re at the lighthouse and all the people are safe.
