Cesar: My Marriage iS noT PERfECT

After keeping mum on what actually was a non-issue, Cesar Montano was obliged to talk about his rumored LQ (Lovers’ Quarrel) with his wife Sunshine Cruz over a starlet who’s in the cast of Cesar’s latest movie, Alfredo S. Lim: The Untold Story, at yesterday’s presscon held at his Bellissimo restaurant on Scout Rallos, Quezon City (which used to be the family residence).

“Ninety percent of the movie was shot in Manila so I had to stay for two days at the Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros because most of the scenes were shot around the area,” said Cesar, the third actor (after Ramon Revilla, Eddie Garcia and Rudy Fernandez) to portray the re-electionist Manila Mayor Fred Lim. “Before I knew it, a rumor spread that Shine drove me away — you know, hindi umuuwi si Cesar, pinalayas ni Sunshine sa bahay.”

Opening on Feb. 27 nationwide, the Fred Lim biopic highlights aspects of his early life (how his mother entrusted him to an orphanage, etc.) recalled in dramatic detail in a biography by Nick Joaquin.

His rumored domestic problem nevertheless, Cesar managed to focus on the shoot, refusing to be distracted by entries (picture of the “culprit” starlet and juicy exchanges between her and the hurting wife, etc.) on Sunshine’s Twitter

and Instagram.“You know,” Cesar, who’s computer-

semi-illiterate, added in jest, “’yang asawa ko mahusay sa social-networking; she’s very updated, so puede siyang i-hire ng CIA at FBI. Actually, I depend on her on what the latest is. Most of her time is devoted doon sa pagtsi-check. In fact, she was the one who updated me on the tsismis about us, hahahaha! I didn’t know na nagtre-trending na pala kami.”

But Cesar did admit that there was “trouble” in the family but not so big that it couldn’t be ironed out in one sitting.

“Our marriage is not perfect,” said Cesar. “If you only say that ‘I’m good, I’m good,’ that’s wrong. It’s just like a friend who hides things from you and won’t tell you that you have dirt in your face even if you do have it. It’s people around you who just want to please you,” adding in a serious tone, “I have a beautiful family, I have a beautiful wife and we have three beautiful children, and I won’t do anything to hurt them. I love my family so much.”

Then he conceded that he and Sunshine are, to borrow a filmmaking lingo, in the post-production stage, sorting out some kinks. As in their previous LQ’s (caused by Sunshine’s grounded jealousy), all’s well and will end well.

Edu Having More fun: Pang-umaga, pang-

tanghali at pang-gabiIt’s more fun any time of day — whether

morning, noon or night.Ask Edu Manzano whose hosting job

has brought him to the round-the-clock timeslot — from Not So Late Night With Edu (midnight, Kapuso) to Umagang Kay Ganda (early morning, Kapamilya) to Pilipinas, Game KNB? (noontime, also Kapamilya), Family Feud (early evening, Kapuso), Game ‘N Go (noontime, Kapatid) and back to the early-morning slot as co-host of Tres Kumares Tintin Bersola-Babao, Chiqui Roa-Puno and Amy Perez on the new segment Kumare con Pare of TV5 Kapatid’s Good Morning Club (5 to 7 a.m.), which tackles issues married couples commonly face in all aspects of their relationships.

At what time is he at his best performance level?

“I’ve discovered that I’m at my best in the morning,” confirmed Edu. “By force of habit and necessity, I’ve become a morning person.”

I wondered, how does his body clock adjust to his constant changes of schedule?

“The solution is to limit my evening adventures,” revealed Edu. “Hindi na ako masyadong lumalabas. I work very hard so I try to play hard, too. But I have chosen to slow down because before there was a tendency to play too much. I get an average of four hours of sleep every night. Puede na sa akin ang four hours.”

He also keeps a strict no-carbo (neither bread nor rice) diet consisting of steamed chicken, egg whites and fresh-water fish (“But not ‘yung masyadong malansa, like tilapia”), plus vitamins (brands confidential).

As you must have noticed, Edu has been happily swinging between all the networks, so Funfare asked him tongue-in-cheek: How soon will he surface on CNN, BBC, Fox or Al Jazeera?

Feigning seriousness, Edu replied, “Well, Al Jazeera offered me a contract but I’m still learning Arabic. But I will be starting with Telemondo very soon,” and proceeded to speak

Spanish (Si, Señor Edu habla Espanol!) that went over my head.

With his current schedule, Edu can spend more time with his three children — Luis (with Gov. Vilma Santos), 32; and Adi, 19, and Enzo, 15 (both with a non-showbiz girlfriend).

“There’s no such thing as quality time which is every busy person’s usual excuse for not being with his family,” said Edu. “There’s only quantity time. You see, the industry has a way of grabbing you by the ears at wala kang nakikita kundi ang sarili mo so I’m trying to make it up with my kids by spending as much time with them as possible.”

From Dec. 22 to end of the month last year, Edu spent “quantity time” with Adi and Enzo in Hawaii (but Luis had to begged off because of a last-minute taping schedule).

“In times like that, sila ang bida,” said Edu, then addressing parents out there, “Don’t ever think na makakabawi ka; you can never make up for lost time, so spend as much quantity time as you can with your family.”

With his current schedule, Edu should be up before the cocks crow and can have enough time to jog around the UP area

before he proceeds to the TV5 studio in Novaliches, Quezon City, for his morning show. Then, maybe he can take power naps and, if the kids are free, have lunch or watch a movie with them — “Sometimes kasama ang girlfriends or boyfriend

nila.”“I have only one advice for

them,” said Edu. “After they are done with

school, they can pursue any career they want. I support them in whatever they want to do. My kids are close to each other. Luis is taking up Muay Thai and he has gotten Enzo

interested in the sport.”

Anyway, for more of Edu’s pieces of advice (and opinions)

on, well, “all kinds of relationships,” with family or otherwise, tune in to TV5 for Good Morning Club.

Boy Abunda’s new Advocacy

KING of Talk Boy Abunda admits he’s a Mama’s boy. He puts up the foundation Make Your Nanay Proud in honor of his Nanay Lesing. It encourages all of us to show our love to our moms by doing something that will make our nanays proud of us. Backed by both private companies and government agencies in this effort, Boy recently hosted the first Council of Advisers meeting for “Make Your Nanay Proud (MYNP)” with Willy Ocier at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, attended by MYNP’s Council of Advisers Washington SyCip, Miguel Belmonte, Martin Concio, Emil Yap, Boy So, Katrina Ponce Enrile, Joanne Zapanta-

Andrada, Jason Buensalido, Tony Tuviera and Tessa Prieto-Valdez. In his speech Boy said: “There are groups that take care of the environment, the poor, children, and many other sectors. I want to focus on mothers because by taking care of our mothers, we inspire people to be better people, we strengthen families and we build stronger communities.”

Aside from his own mother Nanay Lesing, Boy also dedicated MYNP to Conchita Sunico who was his second mother as a probinsyano in Manila.

Mike Sicat, Boy’s long-time friend sits as president of the foundation. He holds a masters degree in engineering at Stanford University and is also an advocate of loving mothers. He says that a nurturing son or daughter will help nurture a community.

Manila based MYNP is invitational for now. Soon, it will be open to everyone who loves their mother.

Former “Miss Saigon” lead actor Ima Castro sang a beautiful rendition of “Ugoy sa Duyan.” Actress Angel Aquino recited a poem by Maya Angelou: “Mother: A Cradle To Hold Me.” Other members of the MYNP Executive Committee are Nini Borja, vice president; Carlos Munda, program director; Gasper Gozo, secretary general; Aileen Robles, treasurer; Atty. Wendel Dimaculangan, corporate secretary.

irresistible Stories About a Hunk Actor and an ActressWE don’t usually do blind items, but

over dinner with some influential showbiz friends recently, we heard so many juicy stories we just can’t resist sharing with you. But sorry, we can’t name names as we assured our friends everything will be confidential.

First story is about an actress who was hired by a producer (also a former actress) to star in a true story about a mother whose child became a desaparecido. The actress said yes but asked for a huge down payment from the producer who’s related to a top government official. The down payment was quickly given to her. Not only that, she also asked a similar amount from the director who personally chose her to star in the movie. Soon after that, she informed both the producer and the director that she won’t be able to do the film project as the network where she’s currently under contract simply didn’t allow her to. Did she return the money given to her? The answer is a big NO.

Who are these three hunky actors who all lead luxurious lifestyles, thanks to their closet gay benefactors? One actor just bought an expensive house and lot, courtesy of a top local official from the South. “Wala nga siyang projects lately,” says our source. “So saan siya kukuha ng pinambili doon kundi siya binigyan ng papa niya?”

Another actor is married with kids but his wife tolerates his affair with a moneyed businessman. She knows they can’t have the comfortable lifestyle they have now if her husband would just rely on his earnings from showbiz so she just turns a blind eye to the affair of her hubby with the filthy rich businessman.

The third is a Fil-Am actor who’s linked to various girls but his real squeeze is someone truly big and powerful. “‘Wag na ‘wag kang magbibigay ng clue,” says our source. “Or my life will be in danger. Basta kabibili lang niya ng bagong expensive condo unit in a plush area.”

Another hunky actor who’s the current apple of the eye of a top network exec is acting like a real swellhead and pain in the ass of the people he works with. Looks like success has gone into his head as he’s behaving like a primadonna on the set of the movie he’s shooting now for a top film outfit. One time, he even had the gall to approach their multi-award winning director and say: “Kikita ba itong pelikula natin? Kasi, parang walang promise, e.”

His co-stars are two top sexy and award-winning actresses and yet he’s behaving like he’s now the real big star of the movie after only one hit TV show. His current TV show with a non-actress is not rating that well.

Valeen Denies Romance with CesarVALEEN Montenegro is happy

that she moved from ABS-CBN to TV5. “I’m now seen daily at 5 p.m. on ‘Jeepney Jackpot’ with Mr. Fu and also in the gag show, ‘Loko Moko U,’ so I can’t complain,” she says.

We remember she also hosted “Artista Academy” with Cesar Montano as the main host and they were even linked to each other. “That’s not true. Nakakahiya nga sa kanya. Buti na lang at namatay agad ang tsismis na ‘yun kasi ‘di talaga totoo. I have a non-showbiz boyfriend, a gym instructor who helps me train and work out.”

Valeen admits she’s at first nervous hosting “Jeepney Jackpot,” the latest game show of TV5 now making waves. “Kasi si Mr. Fu sanay na sanay na sa hosting compared to me. But he proved to be very supportive at nabuo agad ang teamwork namin.”

They go to various barangays to look for their contestants. The six chosen ones get inside the jeepney to play. A contestant is eliminated in each ground and the one who remains wins P50,000.

Each eliminated contestant gets P1,000. Despite her busy sked, Valeen is now on her last year in college, majoring fashion design and merchandising at the College of St. Benilde.

Aiza Resigns from Show Directly Competing with ‘Eat Bulaga’

AIZA Seguerra is a mainstay in “Be Careful with My Heart” playing the role of Jodi Sta. Maria’s lesbian sister who had a child after one drunken night with Tom Rodriguez. When the show was re-scheduled by ABS-CBN to be a direct competitor of GMA7’s “Eat Bulaga,” Aiza decided to resign from “Be Careful” even if she enjoys being a part of it.

Aiza is still busy with her singing career. After her hit performance as the genie in “Aladdin”, she’ll next be seen in the repeat of the hit musical from Atlantis Productions, “Rock of Ages,” with Migs Ayesa.

Blind iTEMSPinoyS Won’T LEAVE SABAHFOLLOWERS of a Philippine

sultan who crossed to the Malaysian state of Sabah this month will not leave and are reclaiming the area as their ancestral territory, the sultan said Sunday amid a tense standoff.

Sultan Jamalul Kiram said his followers—some 400 people including 20 gunmen—were resolute in staying despite being cornered by security forces, with the Kuala Lumpur government insisting the group return to the Philippines.

“Why should we leave our own home? In fact they (the Malaysians) are paying rent (to us),” he told reporters in Manila.

“Our followers will stay in

(the Sabah town of) Lahad Datu. Nobody will be sent to the Philippines. Sabah is our home,” he said.

The sultan did not directly threaten violence but said “there will be no turning back for us.”

Malaysian officials have said that many of the group have weapons, but Kiram insisted his followers made the trip unarmed.

“If they have arms, they were already in Sabah,” the sultan said.

The southern Philippine-based Islamic sultanate once controlled parts of Borneo, including the site of the

stand-off, and its heirs have been receiving a nominal yearly compensation package from Malaysia under a long-standing agreement for possession of Sabah.

Kiram said he was prompted to send the group to Sabah after the sultanate was left out of a framework agreement sealed in October between Manila and

Filipino Moro rebels, which paves the way for an autonomous area in the southern Philippines that is home to the Muslim minority of the largely-Christian nation.

The sultanate’s spokesman, Abraham Idjirani, later said the sultan’s brother Raja Muda Abimuddin Kiram, who led the group to Sabah, had told him via telephone that the party was

preparing to stay.“The objective is to reside

now in that place permanently, considering the sultanate owns Sabah by rights of sovereignty,” he told AFP.

Idjirani said there were about 400 followers of the sultanate in the area, including about 20 who were armed.

On Thursday, Malaysian Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein put the number at between 80 to 100 gunmen.

Idjirani said the group would not instigate violence but would resist if provoked.

“We recognize the capability of Malaysia. We don’t have the arms and capacity but we have the historical truth,” he said, adding that the group’s “fate is to see the recognition they are entitled to... or they die defending their ancestral rights.”

Idjirani said President Benigno Aquino’s senior aides had been in contact with the sultan and were willing to deliver a letter to the Malaysian government on his behalf for negotiations.

UnA Drops 3 Senatorial BetsIBA, Zambales — Vice

President Jejomar Binay’s political coalition has dropped Senators Francis Escudero and Loren Legarda, and Grace Poe-Llamanzares from its senatorial ticket, the party’s campaign manager said here Thursday.

Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) said the coalition was “no longer obligated to include” the three candidates in its slate.

“It is clear that they have made up their minds. We need to move on,” he said in a statement.

“We have held on to their assurances that they will join us sooner or later. Unfortunately, none of them have taken any

concrete move or extended any meaningful gesture to assure us that they will live up to their commitments.”

“We would have wanted and were looking forward to having them join our nine UNA candidates in our rallies and sorties,” he said.

The party has ” tried our best to acommodate them,” said Tiangco.

He criticized one of the three who made “public statements… ruling out participation in UNA events.”

None of the three candidates has appeared in any of UNA’s campaign sorties, including its proclamation rally in Cebu.

Tiangco has likened their relationship with their then shared candidates to be “parang dalawa

kayong nanliligaw, at yung nililigawan pumayag makipag-date sa dalawa.”

“Okay lang naman sa iyo. Pero biglang sasabihin, sorry pero sa Valentine’s Day doon muna ako sa isa makipag-date. Pwede bang proxy ko na lang ang makipag-date sa yo?” he said.

Legarda and Llamanzares have consistently sent representatives to UNA’s sorties but the coalition has lambasted Escudero’s failure to do so.

In an earlier statement, Tiangco questioned why Escudero could not send a proxy as dictated by “basic etiquette, respect and courtesy.”

The campaign trail is on its second week and UNA is on its fourth campaign rally, its first being the proclamation rally in Cebu, followed by a sortie in Bohol.

This week, UNA has visited Pampanga and is making its way to hold sorties in Zambales on Thursday and Bataan on Friday.

UNA senatorial candidate Nancy Binay said she would personally give the then common candidates until the end of February but the coalition put its foot down before the end of the week.

Sizzling ‘Cocolicious’ Revelations

Coco Martin was in his element as he faced the press at the launch of his new action/fantasy/drama series, “Juan de la Cruz,” which kicks off Feb. 4 (weeknights after “TV Patrol” on ABS-CBN).

He left no question unanswered. Coco wasn’t just going through the motions. His enthusiasm and sincerity were very much felt.

It was so heartwarming when he singled out some of the reporters whom he had known since his “indie” days. After all the struggles, Coco has finally arrived. And from the looks of it, he’s definitely here to stay.

Here are some sizzling “Cocolicious” revelations:

Loveless by choice“It’s by choice that I don’t have a

love life for now. Love can wait. I went through a lot when I was starting in show biz. It would be unfair for any girl if I got into a relationship with her at this time when I’m super-busy. If ever [I decide to do so], I would prefer a girl who’s not in the biz, so there’ll be less intrigues.”

How to be a hero“I am like my character Juan de la Cruz

in many ways. The series will show that we can all be heroes, each in our own little way. We don’t have to do anything on a grand scale. Even random acts of kindness can be enough to make us a hero to someone. The show will also remind us that we all have good and our dark sides. We should be able to balance them.”

Personal hero“My hero is my Lola Matilde. She didn’t

go college, but she managed to send me to school by selling stuff at cockpits. Now it’s my turn to pamper her as my way of thanking her for all she has done for me.”

Thoughts on Erich“My ‘Juan de la Cruz’ leading lady,

Erich Gonzales, is very feminine, unlike others who can seem intimidating. She’s the type of girl you’d feel protective of.”

What’s ‘in’“Hopefully, ‘Juan de la Cruz’ turns into a

huge craze so… we can do a movie version (for the Metro Manila Film Festival). We included the aswang component because it’s the ‘in’ thing. Among all my weapons in the series, I’m most comfortable using the sword.

Help people quietly“I like helping people quietly. No

fanfare. Not everything I do must be thrust in the limelight. I’m already an actor. Need I still act out other aspects of my life)?

Try to outdo myself“I’ve waited so long for all these good

breaks. I won’t let any of it go to waste. I will never want to rest on my laurels.”

Fertile imagination“Should a time come when I’m no

longer as popular as I am now, I would still like to work behind the scenes. I will never run out of ideas. I have a very fertile imagination, which I put to good use on the show.”

Not pressured“I try not to be too concerned about rival

shows. It’s enough that I’m aware of what they are up to but not to the point of being pressured. I would rather do my own thing and create my own path instead of letting competition get in the way.”

Sunshine After the Storm: Going

Back to ActingSunshine Cruz is raring to go back

to show biz after taking a hiatus when she married Cesar Montano 13 years ago. For the love of Buboy, she turned her back on the biz and became a full-time wife and mother. Even after three kids, Shine still hasn’t lost her movie-star appeal.

So much has been said and written about her marital woes. While things are still in limbo between Buboy and her, she’s off to regain paradise lost in the biz. All the trials have given her a deeper reservoir of emotions to draw from as she faces the camera again. Instead of licking her wounds, Shine will turn her scars into stars.

Here’s Sunshine after the storm:

How do you feel about your show biz comeback?

To be honest, I’m quite nervous. I have been doing small guest roles for the past 13 years, so it’s like starting from A again. But I’m also excited. I’ve been getting offers lately. But I don’t want to seem greedy by accepting them all (laughs).

What are the projects lined up for you?

My manager, Alfie Lorenzo, has accepted two offers. One is with my cousin Sheryl Cruz and four new actresses. Working title is “Apat na Maria.” The other one will be directed by Toto Natividad. It’s an action series but I’m not at liberty yet to divulge my role. I am open to movies, too.

Are you willing to do kissing scenes?

I’m 35 and a mother of three. It’s awkward

and not proper for me to do sexy scenes anymore. Let’s leave that to the younger actresses. I did that in the past but I won’t do it again. Besides, I’m sure my kids won’t allow me.

What was your daughters’ reaction to your decision to go back to acting?

They are excited for me. They say they pray for me every day so that I will get tons of offers. I’m doing all this for them anyway. I live for my children.

If your life story were to be made into a movie, what would the title be?

“I Loved You, Goodbye.” Past tense na ha (laughs). I just realized I did everything for the man I loved for the past 13 years. I fought, lied and cried just to protect the love of my life pero sabi nga nila kung mahal mo ang tao set him free. I’m doing what I think is best. After all, if you feel na di na masaya o kontento ang tao sa ’yo, bakit kailangan ipilit (if a person is no longer happy or content with you, why should you force yourself on him)?

Dismissal of products liability suit (Case No.: BC 454235) against defendant paint company upon request of plaintiffs-spouses, was entered by the Clerk of the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, Central District in Los Angeles, on December 10, 2012. Defendant paint company was represented by this Author, who published his dissertation for Doctor of the Science of Law (S.J.D) at The University of Michigan Law School on comparative study of products liability in the United States and other countries, including the Philippines.

Products Liability Complaint versus paint company;

On February 1, 2011, plaintiffs-spouses filed their complaint for toxic injuries, asserting causes of action for: (1) negligence; (2) negligence per se; (3) strict liability-failure to warn; (4) strict liability-design defect; (5) fraudulent concealment; (6) breach of implied warranties; and (7) loss of consortium, against numerous manufactures, suppliers, distributors, and other entities in the chain of distribution of chemical products to which plaintiff was allegedly exposed, and allegedly were substantial factors in causing his multiple myeloma.

Defendant paint company was substituted as Doe 2 of the Complaint on August 2, 2011, as manufacturer of paints. Defendant paint company allegedly imported, produced, and distributed chemical products to various Los Angeles County employers of plaintiff, who was exposed to aforesaid toxic chemical products as furniture painter from 1980 to 2008, and was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (cancer) in or about March 2008. From 2005 to 2008, plaintiff frequently signed for the delivery of painting-related products on behalf of his employers. Plaintiff passed away on August 2, 2011; and his wife was appointed successor in interest to him on October 14, 2011. On October 24, 2011, Plaintiffs filed a First Amended Complaint,

asserting both survival and wrongful death claims.

The case was assigned to the Hon. Amy D. Hogue, Presiding Judge of Department 34 of the Central District in downtown Los Angeles.

Paint Company’s Defenses And Dismissal with Prejudice:

On November 4, 2011, defendant paint company., through this Author, filed its Answer to the First Amended Complaint, consisting of a general denial pursuant to Section 431.30(d)of the Code of Civil Procedure, and its 35 affirmative defenses to the causes of actions asserted therein for: (1) negligence; (2) strict liability-failure to warn; (3) strict liability-design defect; (40 fraudulent concealment; (5) breach of implied warranties; and (6) loss of consortium.

Various discovery responses prepared by this Author on behalf of defendant paint company stated that very small amounts of paint(s) was sold to the employers of the plaintiff, but that its products were in the stream of commerce from 1980 through 2008. It also produced product labels for its products along with the Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), warning labels thereof, product literature sheets, and advertisement.

During the period in question of 1980 to 2008, defendant paint company denied possession of any records of sales, delivery or supply to one employer of the plaintiff. Invoices to a second employer showed only 16 gallons of paint which was too negligible under the “ market share liability rule” in Brown v. Superior Court, 44 Cal 3d 1049, 234 Cal Rptr. 412 (1988). Sales of products(s) to a third employer were far less.

On November 28, 2012, plaintiffs’ counsel offered to dismiss defendant paint company with prejudice for just a waiver of costs, an offer defendant paint company could not refuse to accept.

CHEMiCAL PRoDUCTS LiABiLiTySUiT DiSMiSSED By LA SUPERioR CoURT Cesar-Sunshine Controversy:

Gimmick or not?USUALLY, issues come out

before every movie project or anything for that matter comes out.

It’s funny how people make up stories just for a project to get talked about before its actual showing.

But the story about wife Sunshine Cruz demanding for annulment from husband Cesar Montano after he was allegedly caught having an affair with newcomer Krista Miller who is playing one of Cesar’s leading ladies in the movie “Turning Cradle: The Alfredo Lim Story” seems to be not a gimmick.

For one, it could not positively help the movie. But if one believes negative publicity can still create curiosity, well, we will see.

Meanwhile, Krista Miller is said to be enjoying her 15-minute of fame and if she really has the beauty and talent, it could help her in the future.

But if everything is settled between Cesar and Sunshine, who really gained from it?

DEREK Ramsay says he knows “Kidlat” is rating well because everywhere he goes, people no longer call him Derek but Kidlat. “Nagulat ako kasi even in a remote area in Palawan, the kids call me Kidlat,” he says.

“Kidlat” becomes more exciting with the introduction of new villains that will make Derek’s life more action-filled, along with Wendell Ramos as Graba Man and Baron Geisler as Vincent Megaton. The first ones are the twins, Frosta and Fuego, played by Artista Academy discoveries Shaira Mae representing Ice and Mark Neumann representing Fire. They have the power to turn people and surroundings into ice or set them on fire.

nina Reemerges with new Album

WHATEVER have had happened to singer Nina? Well, Asia’s Diamond Soul Siren is back with a brand new album entitled “All Good” under Viva Records. Recall that Nina set the bar high for female singers of her generation with the multi-platinum success of her solo albums in the mid- 2000s. A more mature Nina is what

people will hear in “All Good.” The title track is also a brand new mellow pop ballad.

She unveils a couple of brand new Tagalog songs starting with the heart-tugging “Paano” and then the equally-emotional love song, Sa Isang Tingin. More OPM are in the offing with Pinilit Kong Limutin Ka and Kung Walang Ikaw, Walang Ako.

Complementing these tunes are the reflective Maybe It’s Too Soon and When the Love is Gone, the latter of which see the relaxed diva belting it out a little. Nina also employs some choice covers as well the inclusion of her soulful take on Hurting Inside, a re-imagining of the 90s pop gem Perfect, the OPM favorite Mahal na Mahal Kita and finally, the yearning classic Don’t Say Goodbye, that many now relate to as the theme to the hit movie, A Secret Affair.

All Good is a suite of beautiful songs and is definitely Nina’s strongest album in years.

Sarah never Been Busier After Quitting Show

SARAH Geronimo says she completely trusts the decision of her manager, Boss Vic del Rosario, of Viva in replacing her musical variety show “Sarah G. Live” with a drama anthology where she’ll get to play different characters.

“Bago pa raw magsawa ang mga tao, we should quit while still on top,” she says. “Ang aim naman ng drama anthology is to show that I’m not just good in singing but also in acting. This will be 13 episodes of mostly light drama, to be directed by Wenn Deramas na kilala sa movies for his hit comedies at sa TV for his drama shows.”

Sarah will be paired with the top ABS leading men like Coco Martin, Sam Milby, Piolo Pascual and Paulo Avelino. We just don’t know if she’d agree to still be paired with her exes, Rayver Cruz and Gerald Anderson. Sarah has also just returned from New York City

where she shot some scenes of her third film with John Lloyd Cruz, “It Takes a Man and a Woman.” While waiting for the drama show to start taping, she’ll also be one of the judges in “The Voice Philippines.

She’s also busy endorsing the senatorial bid of Quezon

Rep. Sonny Angara. Sarah says she’s supporting Sonny because of his advocacy to give better education for our people. “Even his dad, Sen. Ed Angara, sinuportahan ko rin noon dahil sa edukasyon,” she says. “I really admire the legislations na ginawa ni Congressman Angara like the Universal Kindergarten Education Act (RA 10157) giving kindergarten education to Filipino kids and the Salary Standardization Law 111 that raised the pay of public school teacher and government workers. Now, he’s pushing for education-related reforms like the Early Years Act (HB 6694) aiming to strengthen the National Early Childhood Care and Development Program and Special Education Act (HB6547) that will create Special Education Centers for gifted and special kids. Lahat ito, talaga namang dapat lang suportahan.”

fans Don’t Call Derek by name Anymore

like ‘Kidlat’ na marami talagang nanonood,” says Shaira.

“And we’re so glad kasi ang bait-bait sa amin ni Kuya Derek kahit kaaway niya kami in the story,” adds Mark. “He even acts as our mentor.”

Another new opponent is Paolo Ballesteros in drag as Warla. He

looks every inch a woman but he has unusual strength he got from a magic stone. Still another new adversary is Enigma, played by

Valerie Weigman. She’s a fashion designer who has telekinetic powers and knows dark magic. “Kidlat” is seen on TV5 weekdays at 6:45 p.m.

Disappointed over Charice and JessicaWHAT do Charice and Jessica

Sanchez have in common? Local media people are both disappointed with them.

“Pareho silang ang daming overprotective bodyguards na tagahawi at pareho ring maraming bawal na itanong sa kanila pag ini-interview na para bang sobrang sikat na sikat na sila,” says one writer who have covered their press conferences.

Well, if it’s any consolation to the disgruntled press people, Charice and Jessica have another thing in common: They both weren’t able to fill up the Araneta Coliseum during their respective concerts.

In the case of Charice, she lost many of her fans with her outrageous getups and hairdo as judge in “X Factor Philippines” and her “I don’t care” attitude so we weren’t surprised when her concert flopped. With Jessica, let’s accept it, she doesn’t really have that big a fan base here. We don’t even think she was able to help the brands that got her as an

endorser. In other words, she’s not really that hot with local fans who still prefer a homegrown talent like Sarah Geronimo than someone who claims she’s an American.

no Wet Look for AngelicaPLAYING dual roles is always a big challenge

for any actress. The very sexy Angelica Panganiban is

portraying one in the new primetime bida teleserye, “Apoy Sa Dagat.” Her character as Rebecca is rich and sociable while Serena is a child of poverty. Swept away in an island,Serena has no memory of her true identity.

With the sea as the background (Piolo Pascual is cast as a too handsome “mangingisda” passionately in love with Serena) Angelica could easily revive the wet look, originally done by Gloria Diaz some thirty years ago in “Ang Pinakamagandang Hayop sa Balat ng Lupa.”

Would she have agreed had the director asked her to go bra-less?

“Sa tindi po ng istorya at sa patutunguhan ng aking karakter ay hindi na po kailangan ang magkaroon ng wet look scene. Idagdag na rin po ang mga maaalab naming eksena nina Piolo at Diether Ocampo na magpapainit sa inyong gabi-gabing panonood” she said.

“At saka kung gagawin ko po ito, naku, isa itong malaking iskandalo kung saka-sakali. Pero why not? Ireserba na lang natin ito kapag gumawa ako ng isang pelikula. At sa halagang hindi pang-teleserye,” she said mischievously.

Willie Says Competition with Joey ‘not Personal’WILLIE Revillame’s noontime show, “Wowowillie”, will start today on TV5, in time for his 52nd birthday tomorrow. Won’t this revive the animosity between him and Joey de Leon of “Eat Bulaga” now that they’re direct competitors once again?“Hindi naman,” says Willie. “I got his number from Manay Lolit Solis at tinawagan ko siya. Okay rin lang sa kanya. Naiintindihan niyang hindi naman personal ang competition namin. Pareho lang kaming gustong makapagpasaya sa tao. May respeto kami sa isa’t isa.”The show will have about 90 guest stars, 300 dancers and 7 regular co-hosts led by Mariel Rodriguez. The others are Camille Villar, Grace Lee, Ava Jugueta (former Starstruck 4 contestant now a singer managed by Jeffrey Tan of Bellhaus), Lovely Abella, Arci Muñoz and the comebacking comedian Ethel Booba.“This is TV5’s first daily noontime show so we’re giving it full

support,” says TV5 exec Perci Intalan. TV5 reportedly spent P100 million in renovating the entire Delta studio where the show will now be staged, just to make sure everything will be state of the art.

When I entered this one, I was committed to this and I pro mised myself in God’s grace na he’ll still be the same man I’ll say ‘yes’ to at the altar,” nakangiting bungad ni Toni.

He has his own space. He has his own time sa trabaho then I have my own,” paliwanag ni Toni.

“I think oo. Sa ngayon parang okay na rin naman sila.

Noong una parang hindi pa masyado

pero nga yon parang okay-okay na kasi nakarating naman kami sa punto na okay naman. May tiwala na, twenty eight na ako,” dagdag pa niya.

Samantala, si Toni ang magho-host ng reality show na The Voice of the Philippines na malapit na ring mapanood sa Kapamilya Network.

“This program will encourage, inspire, and deve lop singers and not humiliate them on stage. Walang masyadong negative kasi it’s a positive show,” pagtatapos ni Toni.

kahit pa nominado ang Budoy,Gerald walang planong

puntahan ang new york festival

It doesn’t have to be big.

But as long as it works for us, it works. Walang perfect ingredient. Oo, buti na lang he’s cool and very understanding,” paliwanag ni Bea.

ENTErTAINmENTManny Waiting for the Worst to Come

BASHERS from social networking sites have been judging boxing icon Manny Pacquiao since he got his taste of defeat. Some are saying he is actually having signs of Parkinson’s disease and that his time is up. Maybe his mom, Dionisia is right; that it’s time for Manny to hang up his gloves especially after getting knocked out cold by Mexican nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez.

Many have actually come up with stories that this early, Manny had already signs of early Parkinson’s disease, an injury accustomed to most boxers like what happened to legendary Muhammad Ali.

But having done check up abroad makes the statements of a local doctor entirely false.

Pacquiao’s counter punch to this doctor is pray for him.

Neurologist Dr. Rustico Jimenez, his own personal physician, who is also president of Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines, said that Manny had been seen having early signs of such disease.

Parkinson’s Disease is a degenerative disorder in the central nervous system that often occurs to boxers such as him.

Other boxers who have had contracted this disease are boxing legends Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Sugar Ray Robinson; even his training coach Freddie Roach. But in the CT Scan made at the University Medical Center in Nevada, the Filipino pride was given a “clean bill of health.”

But now that the Filipino ring icon is up for a another challenge a couple of months from now, should he really start considering to retire?

Two Shows Drain Jake Why Coco Can’t Afford Lovelife

WHEN Jake Cuenca started doing “Kahit Puso’y Masugatan” seven months ago on primetime, he was also in the afternoon show “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo.”

He was taping three days each for both shows and he was always sleep deprived. This went on for about four months until the latter show ended.

“Ang hirap noon,” he says. “Walang pahinga. Wala na akong social life. Puro work lang. Hindi ko na uulitin ‘yun. But I’m thankful na nagawa ko ‘yun at nagpapasalamat din ako dahil ako lang yata ang actor na pinagtiwalaan ng ABS with two regular drama shows airing simultaneously.”

He’s happy to be part of “Kahit Puso’y Masugatan” as he learned a lot while doing this with Direk Wenn Deramas. “Grabeng pinagdaanan ng character ko rito. Naging mabait, sumama, na-obsessed kay Iza Calzado na hindi ko matanggap na ang dad kong si Gabby Concepcion ang pinakasalan, nang-rape, nakulong, namundok at namuhay sa piling ng mga Aeta. Ang daming challenges that I think help me become a better actor.”

The show is now on its last two week. What will happen to his character, Rafael? “I don’t know yet. Nagte-taping pa kami, but it’s all very exciting. Ang dami pang mangyayari so I ask our viewers na tutukan nila ito’t wag silang bibitaw.”

He already has a follow up project but he’s not allowed yet to reveal what it is. He’s doing two new films, one with Gerald Anderson, an actioner helmed by Tikoy Aguiluz. The other one is with Eugene Domingo and Empress Schuck. He’s also considering doing an indie film, “Amor Y Muerte,” directed by Cesar Evangelista. “This is a Cinemalaya entry at noon ko pa gusto gumawa ng movie rito but I want to read the full script first bago ko tanggapin.”

COCO Martin is really special to ABS-CBN as they hosted a solo presscon just for him at Luxent Hotel to launch his new show, “Juan de la Cruz”. How does it feel to be the network’s number one fair haired boy? “I’m really overwhelmed by their support, lalo na sa pagpili sa’kin as Juan de la Cruz as I feel I represent all of us here,” he says. “Big challenge sa’kin ang project na ito kasi for the first time, hindi lang ito basta drama kundi mag-a-action ako rito.

Marami ring special effects kasi mga aswang ang kalaban ko and I use four special weapons against them: a sword, bullwhip, spear and bow and arrow. Akala ng iba, I underwent special training to learn how to handle them pero ang totoo, doon lang ako sa set na mismo nag-aral mag-espada, humawak ng latigo at iba pa. I’m glad maganda naman lumabas on screen. Pero hindi joke mag-fight scene. Mahirap pala. So I work out everyday to make sure physically fit ako sa action scenes ko na kung minsan, buong magdamag kinukunan kaya nakakapagod talaga. Bukod dito, may movie pa akong ‘A Moment in Time’ namin ni Julia Montes na ipapalabas na soon.”

Because of his being so busy, he has no time for love. “Wala talaga. Kung may girlfriend ako, hindi ko rin mapag-uukulan ng panahon. I take advantage muna of the opportunities na dumarating sa akin. Pag nawala na ito, saka na lang ang lovelife.”

Marian, Dingdong Spend Relaxing overnight Stay

MARIAN Rivera was very much surprised and pleased by the Valentine gift that her beau Dingdong Dantes had for her: A relaxing overnight stay at the plush healing center called the

Farm at San Benito, a medical-wellness spa-resort in Lipa City, Batangas that offers detoxification, organic foods and rejuvenating massage in an idyllic rural setting.

Dingdong later posted their photos on Instagram to share it with their fans. It’s good both of them didn’t have any taping for their respective shows, “Pahiram ng Sandali” for Dingdong and “Temptation of Wife” for Marian, so they were able to get away from all their work even only for a short period of time.

“It’s really a great Valentine treat, very relaxing,” says Marian who continues to get raves for her portrayal of Angeline in “Temptation of Wife”. This week, Dennis Trillo as Marcel kidnaps her and takes her to a hut in a remote area where he lavishes her with all the attention he failed to give her before. He serenades her and presents some kids to her to remind her of the family that they should have had if she didn’t have miscarriages. Meantime, Glaiza de Castro as Heidi pretends that she has lost her mind while in jail. She threatens to hang herself inside her prison so the guards take her to the mental hospital, but it’s just a ploy for her to be able to escape.

kuya Germs’ Exemplary Perseverance

MARKING his 50th milestone in the local entertainment industry, German “Kuya Germs” Moreno still continues to do what he does best: provide opportunity to those who aspire to try their luck in the industry.

Recounting the many blessings that were showered upon him all throughout the years, Kuya Germs cannot help but also share his humble beginnings.

His rise from being a janitor in a movie house, to being a curtain raiser in a theater, to being an assistant manager, to being a talent scout and host of television

shows are a testament of his unwavering perseverance to realize his potentials.

Many of today’s showbiz luminaries like Lea Salonga, Judy Ann Santos, Billy Crawford, Ruffa Gutierrez, Vina Morales and many others started with Kuya Germs’ “That’s Entertainment.”

Former co-hosts in his show “GMA Supershow” like Lani Mercado, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Dawn Zulueta, Marciel Laxa and Gretchen Barretto have proven their talents and have made successful careers.

Kuya Germs has also shared experiences of successful former talents who thanked and acknowledged the role he played in their careers. He likewise mentioned some who never made such an effort.

While Kuya Germs showed utmost dedication and professionalism through his hit TV shows in his heydays, he continues to do the same despite limited opportunity in a very late night television show, “Walang Tulugan.” And his loyalty could not be questioned as he has continued to defy lucrative offers from other networks.

If there is any reason to celebrate the life, love and dreams of Kuya Germs in the last 50 years of his career in showbusiness, could there be any greater celebration than the fact that he has shown strength in perseverance and grace in handling its ups and downs?

Psy, who has been active in the Korean music industry since 1999 and has released five studio albums, owes his sudden international fame to the infectious beats and quirky dance moves of Gangnam Style—the song that put him on the global scene, Hollywood in particular.

Posted on YouTube in July 2012, Gangnam Style spawned a wave of parodies and flash mob performances all over the world and became the first video to reach over 1 billion hits.

Though he didn’t quite sing and dance to Gangnam Style 30 times, Psy—whose real name is Park Jae-sang—did rock the viral hit song two times in a row at the end of his short but frenetic show set. But not before showing the near-capacity crowd that his older, less popular singles could be just as fun and enjoyable as his latest one.

At around 10:40pm, after production numbers and stand-up comedy routines by Ai Ai de las Alas, Wally Bayola and Jose Manalo, the 35-year-old unlikely phenom emerged in a sparkly, all-white ensemble to earsplitting shrieks.

Before kicking off the show, Psy laid down the house rules. With his slicked back hair and signature sunglasses, he said he could only give as good as he got.

“If you sing, I’ll sing. If you make noise, I’ll make noise. Now you’re all sitting, so I’ll sit,” said Psy, who, despite his less-than-stellar English, managed to make the audience roll in laughter with his antics.

“If I say jump, everybody’s going to jump….For your own excitement, please jump!” he said.

The crowd rose to their feet, screamed

After giving the fans a taste of his discography, Psy did the song everyone had been dying to hear and see.

“You know how this song goes, right?” Psy said. The crowd rumbled, “Yes!” He added: “Show me great, great, great energy! Are you ready for the world-famous song—the reason why I’m here in the Philippines?”

As the first surge of bass filled the venue, all hell broke loose. When Psy hit the chorus, the Arena turned into a massive dance floor—no standing, no staring.

Backed by six female and six male

dancers and flourished with metallic confetti, fireworks and flames, Psy regaled the crowd with the song and dance steps that had turned him into a household name.

The people clamoured for more.Psy finally obliged on one condition:

He asked them to put down their phones, tablets and cameras. “I saw a lot of people taking pictures,” he said. “This is not for recording, but for the joy. Sing, dance and jump like crazy. Manila, show me what you got!”

And they did for the second time.“Keep on supporting me,” Psy said

before exiting. When it ended, the kids were still on

a high, jumping, dancing and prancing as they exited through the doors—Gangnam Style.

Bea, Angel Together in one Movie

Bea Alonzo and Angel Locsin will team-up in a movie next month. It will be their first time na magkatrabaho.

Only a few people know that a few years back, a friendship developed between the two actresses.

Guess where it happened? In Paris. Yes, Paris, France.

“Ganito ’yon,” paliwanag ng isang malapit sa kanilang dalawa. “They were in Paris for a TFC (The Filipino Channel) personal appearance commitment.

“May ilan pa silang kasamang fellow ABS-CBN talents, pero sila ang madalas na magkasama.”

Hindi nga lang na-fully develop into something closer ang nabanggit na friendship because when they returned home, kapuwa sila naging busy.

The film, to be directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, will also co-star them with Toni Gonzaga, Shaina Magdayao, Maja Salvador and Enchong.

It will be Star Cinema’s 20th anniversary offering.

Bea has worked with Direk Cathy in a number of movies, mostly those which teamed her up with John Lloyd Cruz.

Direk Cathy was also Angel’s director in Unofficially Yours, which, by the way, also starred John Lloyd.

Our sincere condolences nga pala to Direk Cathy for the untimely demise of her mom, Luisa.

Let’s all pray for the repose of her soul, dear Tattle readers.

The Biggest Star in the World Today!

Psy’s hilariously bizarre dance steps and songs rock Manila

and held their glow sticks aloft. Then Psy cranked up the decibels with

the electronic-laden sounds of his 2010 hit “Right Now,” which also featured hilariously bizarre dance steps done with deadpan delivery.

While Gangnam Style had the infamous horse-riding dance, Right Now had Psy circling his hips while smoothing out his hair or caressing his torso. “Jumping!” he shouted, compelling the crowd to shake the ground.

Psy initiated a “jumping rehearsal” and a shouting match of sorts, saying he would only focus on the section of the crowd with the most energy. “Centre, make some noise! Right side, make some noise! Second floor, make some noise!”

He then segued to his second song, “It’s Art,” in which he bared his

more subdued side. The track, a more melodious-sounding relative to his other songs, even featured some proper singing by the portly performer.

It was the same with “Paradise”.Midway through the song, Psy slowed

down the tempo, asked for the lights to be turned off and the people to light up their phones and wave them along with the music.

His fourth number, “Champion,” sampled “Axel F,” the theme of the Hollywood movie “Beverly Hills Cop.” Here, Psy reverted to rapid-fire rapping. “You are a champion,” he said.

The c r o w d

was composed mostly of children and their parents. Not a few boys aged five and up came dressed as little Psys.

A 10-year-old boy named Justin confessed he didn’t know any of Psy’s songs other than Gangnam Style. He said: “I just want to see him live.”

Hell breaks looseThe crowd had a great time

dancing, cheering and mimicking Psy’s steps. But there were moments of bewilderment among the older members who were seemingly trying to grasp what was happening onstage. Some simply stood and stared, except when Psy asked everyone to scream and jump.

Fun and Romance Cruising the MarinaA Valentine’s Day Dinner Cruise:

On February 14th, 2013, INSIDER PRODUCTIONS hosted one of its most memorable events yet, an elegant Valentine’s Day Dinner Cruise aboard the luxury yacht FantaSea in Marina Del Rey. In keeping with the celebration that is Valentine’s Day, there was no shortage of excitement, fun and romance on this special night for lovers. The event kicked off with a long-stemmed red rose, given to all the ladies who attended. Champagne was free-flowing, and handed out to all the guests as they boarded and viewed the beautifully decorated areas of the yacht. A candle-lit rose centerpiece graced each dining table, surrounded by rose petals and tea lights with sprinkles of diamond accents. As the night continued to unfold, the radiance and beauty of the centerpieces set the mood for what would end up being an unforgettably romantic evening.

On the first level, a jazz guitarist entertained the guests with some jazz standards and cool and classic melodies. In addition, a blackjack and roulette table was set up in hopes guests would try their luck at winning the various raffle prizes. Generous sponsors Phyto & Lierac, makers of high-end European hair and beauty products provided the grand prize of a huge chest filled with exquisite creams and lotions from Paris.

On the second level, a live band performed, serenading couples with love songs and romance music. Many couples took to the dance floor holding their special someone closer, and each other until the nights end.

On the third level, our DJ let the beats ride as various styles of music were featured. From some Latin tempos, to 80s, even to some Gangnam style, many of the guests let loose and danced the night away. Many gathered in circles, many shook whatever they had, all for the sake of having fun.

On the roof deck, round, white lanterns lined the yacht and added a cold, yet romantic place for couples to spend time with one another alone. With the chilly evening gradually warming up as the evening wore on, the moonlight glistening on the water’s surface, and having that special someone beside you, it could not have gotten any more romantic.

A full course buffet was provided along with dessert bar and coffee. With a wide range of foods provided, many guests complimented the and taste of dinner and enjoyed the variety of desserts. There was enough food to satisfy any and all tastes.

After a few hours, the yacht eventually docked. The common reaction to it all was simple, “Uniquely

Memorable.” Many had never experienced being on a yacht, while many didn’t experience anything as spectacular and romantic, as there were so many levels of enjoyment. It was simply a night that many will remember and cherish forever.

Sexy starlet unlucky with men

As they say: Lucky with money; unlucky in love. Although Sexy Starlet scored big in business ventures, she struck out in the romance department.

SS discovered that Cute Boyfriend was only using her, and that he was in love only with her savings account. SS complained to friends that CB had the habit of passing the bill to her whenever they went out.

Wealthy Beau was a certified mama’s boy, who broke up with SS to please Influential Mom.

“Maybe IM thought I was gold digger,” SS gasped. “I’m not interested in their dubious wealth.”

Material boyWhile we’re on the subject of material

boys: Hooked on gambling, Mestizo Hunk ran to Rich Gay for a lifeline.

RG can be very generous, MH boasted to pals, and would gladly shell out P50,000 every time they were on a date.

But when buddies asked if they were a couple, MH denied the relationship, furiously: “I’m doing it only for the money!”

Method actressPerhaps Pretty Starlet was only

researching a role.PS was cast as a mistress in a coming

project. Was she so devoted to her craft that she hooked up with Married Costar?

Crew members got antsy because PS and MC would disappear for hours to “play with fire.”

Somehow MC’s Gorgeous Wife got wind of this and rushed to the set, in tears.

The staffers distanced themselves from the mess. PS ran to MC, claiming that the workers had joined forces with GW and were “ganging up” on her.

Under the influenceAt a high-profile event, Veteran

Actress appeared to be living the lush life.

VA was drunk as a skunk and kept dishing out incoherent, rambling answers to reporters. At one point, VA

argued with a scribe about her nonsensical statements.

An insider insisted it was also possible that VA was sober that day and was just being her eccentric self.

Herbal high?

Walkout kingDashing Actor was irked by the line of

questioning from TV Reporter from his home studio.

TR made the mistake of inquiring about DA’s unpaid debts to Former Flame, who hogged the headlines recently.

Peeved, DA scolded TR: “Why dredge [that] up? We’re on the same team!” Then DA walked out of there. TR ran after DA, pleading for a second chance.

Ballroom brawl goes cyber

Colorful Actress related to Rushes a shocking online skirmish between two society belles, Controversial Celebrity and Feisty Wife of Influential Personality.

CC and FW had a harsh exchange of words on a social networking site. Allegations of “gate-crashing” and “free-loading” were thrown around.

The reason, according to a mole, is a festering rivalry on the dance floor.

Were CC and FW fighting over a dance instructor?

CA was tickled pink that even so-called social butterflies could turn catty in a ballroom brawl.

Midnight go-seeDuring an out-of-town audition held

long ago, Worldly Aspirant admitted in front of flabbergasted jurors that he used to be a sex worker.

Powerful Insider’s curiosity was piqued. After the tryouts, PI approached WA in the men’s room.

Production Staffer later spotted WA emerging from PI’s hotel room. A private go-see?

overtime workMajor Star’s critics are working

overtime. Again.MS was not a bit surprised that intrigues

about certain high-profile projects are cropping up left and right.

MS blames political rivals. “It’s election time, that’s why,” MS said, exasperated. “I won’t even dignify it with a response if these so-called sources don’t identify themselves.”

Let the sideshow begin … hurry, hurry.

Missing starAt a recent splashy event, Popular Star

was conspicuously absent.PS had a valid excuse for the no-

show—a pressing previous engagement on the other side of the globe.

Still, was PS absent also because of a series of unfortunate developments in the company?

Was PS hurting over the bosses’ neglect? Can this still be fixed?

(Wow. Did someone just out-taray The Taray?)

Ejay Falcon naghamon: ‘Yung sinasabi nilang gay benefactor, iharap nila sa akin! (Sige, dali, iharap n’yo!)

“Wowowillie” ng TV5 tumagal nang mahigit limang oras sa ere. (It’s all fun and games for now.)

Kahit gustung-gustong bumili bilang

(Accidents happen to those who drive cars, too.)

Ex-BF nina Bianca, KC at Liz Uy ayaw patulan ni Kris, nakakahiya naman daw. (She said that?)

Angelica, Piolo napasabak sa matinding halikan at love scene. (Who enjoyed it more kaya?)

Marian, Dennis sanay na sanay sa hubaran at laplapan. (Uh, onscreen ’yan, ano?)

Bukod kina Derek at Dennis, Cristine may dine-date pang actor-director. (Oh, girls just wanna have fun.)

(The fans again! Anuvah?)

Coco pinangarap maging OFW pero minalas. (Lucky us!)

(You’re not the first girl this happened to, and you won’t be the last.)

(Not the way to get more viewers—or a raise!)

Ayaw pa ring magbati, matindi ang galit sa isa’t isa; Kim, Maja nag-isnaban

sa ASAP, pinaghiwalay ng dressing room. (They’ve gotta thaw sometime. All this over a boy?)

(And this is surprising because … ?)

(Everybody shut it, sheesh!)

(And what did we all expect her to say naman?)

“Eat Bulaga,” “Showtime” talo agad ng “Wowowillie” sa round 1? (Round 2, go!)

Coco “binasted” ni Erich; Nahiya ako

sa kanya. Wala, natiyope, e! (Did that hurt?)

(What does this mean? Guest Rusher wants to know.)

(My, my …

(That’s a bit reckless, comparing him to the King of Pop.

(Ayusss! And oh

kapuso Child Star A Diabetic at 8Child star Mona Louise Rey, a juvenile

diabetic, admits she once asked God why He was making her suffer.

Mona, 8, youngest of four siblings, is the only one in her family diagnosed with the illness. “I’m used to it now, and I can inject myself with insulin,” she told the Inquirer recently. “I can’t eat candies, chocolates and white rice, or drink juices and soda. I’m allowed very little servings of brown rice.”

Her blood sugar level has improved “greatly,” though. Mona said it was at

658 milligrams per deciliter last year, when doctors discovered she was sick (normal level is between 70 and 180 mg/dL). Now it is down to 80 mg/dL.

Despite her illness, the cheerful young star, a grade schooler at St. Monique College in Sta. Mesa, Manila, sees how much she should be thankful for.

Mona is in the cast of GMA 7’s new afternoon prime drama, “Bukod Kang Pinagpala,” with Camille Prats, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Jackie Rice and Jennica Garcia.

“I’m happy that they keep giving me projects,” Mona said. “I’m sure other child actors can do a lot of things better, especially comedy. I haven’t tried that one yet.”

Cries on cueThe Filipino-Bahraini kid shared with us

her technique for crying on cue: “I imagine my mom, my siblings, my dog and my sister’s cat lost and I can’t find them.”

Her parents are separated. “I don’t remember when my dad left,” she said. “I hardly see him these days; I’m so busy. I miss him sometimes.”

In “Bukod Kang Pinagpala,” Mona plays Lara, daughter of Leandro (Mark Anthony) with Janet (Jackie). She will be raised by Ofelia (Jennica), and later adopted by Bessie (Camille). The three women will fight for her custody and her love.

Different role“This role is different from others I’ve

done before,” Mona said. “Here, when I’m maltreated, I fight back. I like that.”

The family drama, developed by RJ Nuevas and directed by Don Michael Perez, airs weekdays.

Mona joined show biz via the top-rating show “Ang Munting Heredera” in 2011. She was also in the cast of “Luna Blanca: Unang Yugto” and “Aso ni San Roque.”

Bianca no comment sa balikan nina

Dennis at Cristine!

Lovi Sore at Director for Being ‘Violated’?

IS it true Lovi Poe is sore at film director Joel Lamangan for a sexy scene she was forced to do with Ahron Villena in Regal’s “The Bride and The Lover?” Lovi was quoted saying she felt violated while doing the said scene and even Ahron was hesitant to do it.

“Did she really say that?” Direk Joel said when we had dinner with him. “Actually, si Ahron ang viniolate niya roon. Sa eksena kasi, siya yung mas aggressive partner. She initiated their love making. This is important to show the change in her character na dati, hindi palaban. Lovi is a good actress. She won

best actress for a movie she did with me, ‘Sagrada Familia’, so I’m sure she understands how significant yung eksenang pinagawa ko sa kanya. But she’s not the only one who’s good, also Jennylyn Mercado. May kakaibang glow si Jennylyn dito. Ang ganda-ganda niya, siguro dahil in love siya (with Luis Manzano.)”

Direk Joel adds that “The Bride and The Lover” is the movie that took him the longest time to shoot in his entire career. “I have movies na 10 to 15 days, tapos. This one, we started in July yet. Ngayong February pa lang magla-last shooting day. Hindi kami magkita-kita ng mga artista lahat kami may ginagawang soap. Si Lovi, MWF ang taping. Si Jennylyn, TThS naman. May soap din si Paulo. Kaya weekends lang kami puwede, e may “Party Pilipinas” pa sila. Pahirapan talaga. But we’re so glad, finally magla-last shooting day na kami this week. But May pa raw ang release ng Regal dito.”

Going back to Lovi, she’s happy that as “Yesterday’s Bride” airs its final episode this afternoon, she already has a new show and it’s on primetime, pairing her with Richard Gutierrez.

Wake up, man!” sabi nito.

May law of supply and demand.

WiLLiE, MATAAS PA Rin kAHiT BUkAS nA BUkAS AnG BUHAy

Think before you tweet. Pero kabaligtaran nu’n ang kanilang ginagawa. Tweet before you think.

fATE of 5TH PACQUiAo-MARQUEZ

Whether the fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez will push through or not will be known when Marquez meets with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum.

According to BoxingScene.com, Marquez will be accompanied by his longtime trainer, Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain, to the meeting where Arum will try to convince the Mexican four-division world champion to agree to a grudge rematch with Pacquiao.

In their fourth fight last Dec. 8, Marquez finally got the Filipino’s number with a one-punch knockout in the final second of the sixth round.

Their first bout in 2004 ended in a draw, while Pacquiao won the second (2008) and third editions (2011) by split and majority decision, respectively.

Marquez has indicated that he isn’t too keen on fighting Pacquiao

again, a view shared by Beristain, who told BoxingScene.com that he doesn’t want Marquez to tangle with the Filipino eight-division world champion again because “it would be a dangerous fight (for his ward).”

Despite his apprehensions, however, Beristain said he would abide by whatever Marquez will decide.

If ever the fifth fight pushes through in September, Marquez stands to become the highest paid Mexican athlete ever with projected earnings of $15 million upwards, a big jump from the $6 million guaranteed purse he got in Pacquiao-Marquez 4.

While Macau, Abu Dhabi and Mexico have been prominently mentioned as likely sites for the fifth bout, a return to Las Vegas, despite the stiff US taxes, can’t be brushed aside owing to its prime marketability.

With Pacquiao out of his radar for now, Marquez is looking at brawler Brandon Rios as a possible opponent for his return to the ring in September.

If Marquez plays hard to get or demands a stiff purse, the Pacquiao camp won’t beg him for a fifth fight, lawyer Jeng Gacal, Pacquiao’s legal adviser, told the Inquirer in an earlier interview. Gacal insists only a Pacquiao fight can give the 39-year-old Marquez financial security once he hangs up his gloves.

Donaire-Rigondeaux Bout in Jeopardy

MANILA, Philippines – The announced April 13 showdown between reigning WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr. and Cuban challenger Guillermo Rigondeaux hit a snag.

Donaire, the four-division world champion, fired at Rigondeaux on Twitter over drug-testing issues Wednesday morning.

“I want you guys to hear it from me first, I am not going to NYC for the presser this Thursday [because] Rigo is backing off his agreement to VADA ( voluntary anti-doping association) drug testing,” Donaire posted on his Twitter account. “Rigo’s team verbally agreed to VADA testing both online and in negotiations but now that the contract to start testing is in front of them, they are finding every excuse not to sign and delay the start of the testing.”

The 30-year-old Donaire added that he has not signed his contract yet to fight the unbeaten Rigondeaux, a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

“I have no obligations to fight only him. It disappoints me that top fighters

these days run from everything that will hold professional boxing integrity to its highest standard. I will be looking into other opponents with my manager, Cameron Dunkin immediately.”

Donaire went on saying that he never subjected his opponents to undergo VADA drug testing before the fight and it was actually Rigondeaux who “called me out and agreed to do VADA testing on his own.”

“It was also in negotiations. So why back out when you gave your word as a man?”

WHO IS RANDY GENER? AND WHY ARE ALL THESE

CELEBRATED, MAINSTREAM THEATRE LUMINARIES SAYING

ALL THESE NICE THINGS ABOUT HIM?

“When it comes to theater, Randy Gener is a rock star,” says DAVID HENRY HWANG, the preeminent American dramatist (“Chinglish,” “Yellow Face,” “The Golden Child”), a Tony Award winner and three-time Pulitzer Prize finalist. “We’re very lucky to have him in our industry,” avers JACK O’BRIEN, three-time Tony Award-winning Broadway director (“Hairspray,” “The Full Monty” and “The Coast of Utopia”):

“He creates art himself with his incisive, finely wrought and insightful prose,” asserts DOUG WRIGHT Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright (“I Am My Own Wife”), librettist (“Grey Gardens”) and screenwriter (“Quills”). “He is an ideal recipient of any award for excellence,” says JEAN-CLAUDE VAN ITALLIE, playwright (“American Hurrah” and “Tibetan Book of the Dead”), author, teacher and seminal force in the explosive New York Off-Broadway theater of the 1960s.

“I’ve been impressed by Randy Gener’s professionalism as a journalist. . . Everyone who cares about freedom in Belarus, and about the Free Theatre in particular, has reason to thank him.” -- SIR TOM STOPPARD, prolific playwright and screenwriter (“Arcadia,” “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead,” co-writer of “Brazil” and “Shakespeare in Love”) , recipient of an Oscar and four Tony Awards.

British playwright, knighted in 1997.[1] He has written prolifically for TV, radio, film and stage, finding prominence with plays such as Arcadia,The Coast of

Utopia, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, Professional Foul, The Real Thing, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. He co-wrote the screenplays for Brazil and Shakespeare in Love, and has received one Academy Award and four Tony Awards.

Randy Gener, the curator/organizer of Filipino Mundo-NYC, is a New York-based editor, writer, dramaturg, artist and the only Asian-American recipient of the George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism. He’s been a good friend since I first met him at Perseverance Theatre in Alaska when he covered the premiere of the musical “The Long Season” as Senior Editor of The American Theatre Magazine.

FILIPINO-AMERICAN OVER-ACHIEVER

Of course, I did due diligence and Googled everything I could about him and I was awed by his achievements, too long to list here (check out :http://randygenerlive.blogspot.com/). I became an instant fan!

Since then I became a one-man crusade determined to change Randy’s status as one of New York’s best kept secret as far as Filipino American communities are concerned. I wanted Filipinos and Filipino-Americans to be made aware of another outstanding role model for younger Filipinos and Fil-Ams to emulate. If nothing else, I wanted to help spread the message that some Filipinos are actually breaking through the proverbial “bamboo ceiling” in the mainstream arena.

One of these attempts at “spreading the word” included my nominating Randy for the 2012 Ten Outstanding Filipino-Americans in New York (TOFA-NY) and actively campaigning for him on social media. The list of nominees was nothing to scoff at. They included Lorna Schofield, President Barack Obama’s nominee for the position of federal district court judge for the Southern District of New York; NYU

Dean for Science Michael Purugganan; Broadway stars Ali Ewoldt (“West Side Story”) and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle (“Godspell”); Victor Lirio, actor and producing artistic director of Diverse City Theatre; and Cheryl Ocampo, mother of a special-needs child and founder of the Queens County Parents Autism Coalition.

I was excited that the awarding ceremony will be held at Carnegie Hall in New York with Philippine Consul General Mario de Leon Jr. and philanthropist Loida Nicolas Lewis as guest speakers. However, I was completely bowled over when the Randy Gener Campaign took a unique turn. Suddenly, what was essentially a glamorized garden variety campaign for an online popularity contest became an exciting endorsement festival with award-winning Broadway artists--the likes of DAVID HENRY HWANG, JEAN-CLAUDE VAN ITALLIE, and Sir TOM STOPPARD-- rallying in support of Randy Gener!

LOSE SOME, WIN SOME

Unfortunately, Randy did not win the TOFA-NY 2012.

Unlike yours truly, Randy is quick to rationalize with a smile, “People do not know my work, because it is arts and culture.

Which does not have a large place in both our U.S. and Philippine cultures: 1) diversity in the U.S. mainstream media, 2) advocacy for a Filipino-American artistic renaissance in the U.S., and 3) the pursuit of cultural diplomacy and international understanding through new media.”

But, at the very least, the Fil-Am connection was made. Randy recently shared that the people behind the staging of Felipe de Leon’s “NOLI ME TANGERE” engaged him to serve as the emcee of the Philippine Center town-hall meeting to launch the landmark opera based on the great novel by the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. The latest news, according to Randy is that, “. . . the NY host team was so very happy with my work emceeing the Town Hall, we are presently negotiating for me to serve as a dramaturg of the NY staging of the opera. The work is cut out for me because the real job is to get this opera work known beyond the Fil-Am community: for it to be embraced by a diverse cross-section of ethnic communities. In particular, we need to advocate it as an important work of classical music to opera critics, opera enthusiasts and opera aficionados. A real tall order!”

PINOY INAMERICA

filipino Culture is Alive and well in the Greater Los Angeles AreaFilipino cultural life thrives no matter

where you go in the U.S., but I’ve always felt that those of us in the Greater Los Angeles Area are lucky. For Pinoy cultural fixtures and events, the region is hard to beat.

If I’m not mistaken, we’re the only one with a Historic Filipinotown. For those who are not familiar with it, Historic Filipinotown—or “HiFi,” as it’s affectionately called by its supporters—is a district in Los Angeles designated by the city to preserve its history as a Filipino center. The area is where many Filipinos settled when migration from the Philippines to the U.S. took flight in the early 20th century. Up to now, it’s said, about 25 percent of its residents are Filipino, and it’s currently home to many Filipino businesses and organizations. A library in the vicinity hosts a Philippine Heritage Collection.

You go to HiFi and you see Pinoys

everywhere—in the Pinoy restaurants, the library, the park. Of course, you have to be careful not to speak Tagalog to everyone who looks Pinoy because many of them will be second-generation or third-generation Pinoy and may not necessarily speak Tagalog or any of the Philippine languages. That, in itself, is testimony to HiFi’s unique stature. In other parts of Southern California, you talk to someone who looks Filipino in a Philippine language and there’s a good chance you’ll be understood. Not necessarily in HiFi, although you’ll be made to feel welcome.

It’s an area where, if you’re lucky, you’ll even see a Philippine jeepney. A real, functioning, honest-to-goodness Philippine jeepney. But you can’t hail it to get a ride because it doesn’t take passengers.

The vehicle, a smaller version of the average Sarao you find on Manila’s streets, isn’t for public transportation. It’s used, rather, as a media tool by the Pilipino Workers’ Center to

highlight its programs for low-income Pinoy workers. And I know it’s used from time to time to give tours of HiFi.

The L.A. area also boasts one of the longest-running Filipino cultural festivals in the U.S., the Festival of Philippine Art and Culture, held every year in San Pedro. You can tell a festival has been around a long time and has done significant work when people say “My first FPAC was in 1995…” or “I used to come to FPAC when I was a teenager…” That’s what you hear when you attend the festival and meet those who grew up on FPAC and are now bringing their own kids to see the booths, take part in the activities, and enjoy the food.

I’ve been going to FPAC to sign books at the Philippine Expressions booth. Philippine Expressions is the online bookstore, run by Linda Nietes and her husband Rob Little, that specializes in titles by and about Filipinos.

The business, which Nietes began in 1984, is another of those fixtures that make the L.A.-area really home to Pinoy culture.

The other booths at FPAC are for Filipino-owned and Filipino-themed businesses and organizations. The Filipino-American Law Enforcement Association is a regular, for example, as are BakitWhy (the Filipino-American lifestyle website), Asian-Journal (the newspaper), Barangay L.A. (a nonprofit organization that serves the Filipino-American LGBTQ community), and many, many others.

And I’m not even going to get into the food vendors and food trucks right now. I would never stop. To be continued…

[Lorenzo Paran III writes about Filipino-American life on www.pinoyinamerica.com.]

Some of those attending the 2012 Festival of Philippine Art and Culture (FPAC) browse books at the Philippine Expressions Bookshop booth on Sept. 8, 2012, during the first day of the festival. The FPAC, held at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro, Calif., is one of the longest-running Filipino cultural festivals in the U.S.

Ely Buendia not Joining ‘The Voice’ PHMANILA, Philippines - Ely Buendia

is not a judge on franchised singing contest “The Voice” on ABS-CBN.

The former vocalist of Eraserheads who has a new band, The Oktaves, said that the rumor about his participation in the show actually caught him by surprise.

“Hindi totoo yun. Hindi ko alam kung papaano nangyari yun. Wala ngang lumalapit sa amin. Tapos nagkakalat ng ganun. Wala akong kaalam-alam dun,” said Ely at the launch of The Oktaves album on Feb. 17.

If it were offered to him, Ely said he might not have accepted it anyway.

“Hindi ko alam kasi parang hindi ko kaya yung ganung klaseng trabaho na mag-appear sa TV. Hindi ko lang eksena yung ganun. Siguro merong ibang taong mas mahusay para dyan.”

Ely stressed that he doesn’t see himself watching and passing-on judgment or even mentoring contestants.

What Ely is an expert of, as Pinoy music aficionados know from his past achievements, is making music and putting up bands like The Oktaves. This latest endeavor also means additional work load for Ely who is juggling time between his solo shows and the band Pupil already. Future mall tours or shows of The Oktaves only make his chances of joining “The Voice,” if ever, bleak.

So how does Ely manage his work load given his heart condition? He and his band members have different managers to take care of their respective schedules.

“Jingle ang pahinga,” Ely said in jest. “So far wala naming banggaan, we make it a point na di naman ganung ka busy, tama lang.”

Ely’s number one priority when it comes to accepting gigs is that these shouldn’t compromise his health meaning “dapat huwag akong masyadong mapagod.”

The other members of Oktaves are Nitoy Adriano (formerly of The Jerks)

and Chris Padilla, Bobby Padilla and Ivan Garcia (all from Hilera). Hilera collaborated with Ely and the late Francis Magalona in “ In Love and War” as well as in the film “The Asiong Salonga Story.”

“In many ways, ibang genre siya. Pero kung isipin mo rin medyo parang bumalik lang ako sa dati kong ginagawa with the Eheads kasi kung di ninyo naitatanong, yung Eheads noon, we started as a Garage Band - punk, rock and roll, rockabilly and country. Nag-move lang kami sa pop when we signed with a major recording label,” said Ely.

“The Oktaves” features the tracks “Gone Gone Gone,” “Hold On Tight,” the carrier single “Walang Magawa,” “Olivia,” “Get You,” “Paakyat Ka Pa Lang Pababa Ma Ako,” (their second single released) “Ikot,” “Detox,” “Standing On My Own,” “Bungo Sa Bangin” and “Langit Express.”

new at o Skin Care.. Body ScrubBenefits of Body Scrub Acclaimed Hollywood designer Alexis Monsanto recently saved the 2013 Grammy

Awards for music artist and former Pussycat Dolls member, Kaya Jones. At the 11th hour, Kaya Jones was still undecided on what to wear for the highly anticipated event. It was then that her management contacted Monsanto to make magic happen once again. The vision for Kaya Jones for the Grammy’s was to stun and make a grand entrance. Her choice was a Monsanto classic, sweet, red Grecian-style gown. Kaya and her team immediately fell in love with gown as the color was utterly immaculate, with the length and style just perfect for a very classic and timeless appeal. As she made her entrance on the red carpet, photographers went crazy as Kaya looked like a goddess, elegant and pristine. Kaya was featured on the Glam Cam 360 of E! network, has made it on the list of the New York Times and CBS Top 10 red carpet Grammy styles. For Kaya, this was just the beginning, as she has founded her own record label, Human Race Records. For Monsanto, he is gearing for Oscar Sunday, as he is once again invited for the second time around by KTLA 5 to do red carpet commentary and discuss trends and predictions on the red carpet on KTLA’s Morning Show at 8 am. We are very much excited to see his gorgeous creations on the red carpet once again!

Many women are overloaded with the perpetual to-do list, and often put themselves at the bottom of that list. One way you can put yourself at the top again is to engage in self-care by getting regular body scrubs. There are various types of body scrubs, depending on your personal preferences and needs. There are also various benefits to body scrubs, some of which you may not even be aware of.

Benefit #1 – Skin GlowOne of the biggest benefits to body

scrubs, particularly the salt scrub, is the glow that your skin is left with. There are different grades of salt, and sea salt is the best option for a salt glow. The results for your body will depend on the type and grade of salt you or your spa technician uses.

Benefit #2 – ExfoliatingIt might seem like an obvious benefit

to mention, but body scrubs are a great way to exfoliate dead skin cells. This paves the way for fresh new cells to regenerate and leaves you looking and feeling fabulous. Planning a body scrub for exfoliating benefits is best in the fall and spring, right before you start to tan and when your tan starts to fade. Of course, exfoliating is great any time. If you have sensitive skin, it’s best to stick with sugar or herbal body scrubs. Otherwise, salt scrubs are great for exfoliation.

Benefit #3 – Increasing FlowWhen you get a body scrub or give

one to yourself, you are encouraging the natural flow of circulation and bodily fluids within. For the best results a professional should recommend and apply the body scrub that is appropriate for you. When you have a professional massage therapist apply the body scrub, a massage can be incorporated. This

will increase the correct circulation and flow benefits.

Benefit #4 – Improve Cellulite and Aging

There are some claims that certain types of body scrubs can actually improve the look of aging and dimpled skin from cellulite. There is no miracle cure, but it certainly won’t hurt to try a body scrub that is enhanced with coffee. The coffee grounds are the best option for use on cellulite prone areas of the body. These types of body scrubs are great if you love the smell of coffee, too.

Benefit #5 – RelaxationTreating yourself to a body scrub,

especially when combined with a massage, is just plain relaxing. Having a body scrub done by a professional allows you to incur the benefit without the mess or stress. Plus, when you have a choice of essential oils to add to your body scrub, the effects are even more potent. Lavender is a great choice because of its known relaxing qualities. There may be other scents that you find relaxing, so be sure to ask if essential oils can be incorporated. PISCES (Feb. 20-Mar. 20) Don’t allow someone to take on your territory at work, and remember business is business, don’t get emotional. Your financial position is looking up, and you may be able to be creative with money; there could be another way to get what you want. A family matter that has tested you in the past can begin to resolve itself. You could have a secret admirer.ARIES (Mar. 21- Apr. 20) With the energy of the full Moon Sunday 27th, you can fall under a love spell, but only if you are prepared to lighten your emotional load and let bygones be bygones. Venus in your career zone can give you a chance to negotiate something better. Don’t take anything at work as settled, there is more to come.TAURUS (Apr. 21- May 21) Front page career news can put you in a fortunate position at work, but make sure you don’t overlook the details. CAPRICORN (Dec 22.- Jan. 20) Work and money are both important, but so is love, and often they can be combined. If you’re having trouble saying how you feel, remember that actions can be a more candid way of communicating.
