The beauty industry is, of course, massive. It involves everything from anti wrinkles toteeth-whitening toothpaste to ridiculously expensive shampoo that will transform your hairfrom “ordinary to extraordinary,” if you believe an advertisement for a product that containswhite truffles and caviar and costs more than 300AED for an 8.5-ounce bottle. It involvescelebrity-endorsed cosmetics, perfumes, and a host of fashion products. The number isinfinite.

I decided to look into this in a little more detail. At 41 and being in the beauty industry for 15years, I have tried pretty much everything there is out there. Some products promise theworld and fool consumers into parting with their hard earned cash, others don’t necessarilylive up to their lofty promises, but do deliver beautiful, healthy improved skin / hair / nails /lashes.

In a society (especially in UAE) that is obsessed with looking better, younger, different, Iresearched the most popular cosmetic procedures, ones that actually do make a difference. Ithen looked at ‘at home alternatives’. Whether your concern is wrinkles, acne, rosacea, sun

then looked at ‘at home alternatives’. Whether your concern is wrinkles, acne, rosacea, sundamage, oily, dry or sensitive skin you will find that there is something out there claiming itcan wave a magic wand. A big factor is knowing your skin type and concerns, you need toknow what types of products work together and the order in which to use them.

As somebody who hasn’t tried invasive beauty treatments and will only try non invasiveprocedures, I was interested to see if simple folk who don’t have bucket loads of cash couldget similar results at home. Now, I know there won’t be a like for like comparison (that’simpossible) but there are some things out there that help us improve our appearance.

As this is an area I’m no expert in, I called upon a professional opinion to talk me through themost popular and effect procedures. The team at Dubai Cosmetic Surgery are people I trustand I have visited them in the past for the most amazing Hydra-Facial (check out the beautysection for my review). If you are looking to get a little something to make you look better orjust want to talk about your options, I recommend you visit these guys.

Before I go any further, please let me say that this is a tried and tested review from myperspective based on my concerns and skin types. I am fed up reading articles from so calledexperts. Rarely did I find any real evidence or expertise beyond personal testimonies (which Idon’t need to remind you are not evidence). This is my recommendation of items out of aplethora of products tested that worked. The team at the Dubai Cosmetic Surgery are theexperts you should call upon.

1 – Face – wrinkles and fine lines / brighten / tighten / hydrate

Procedure – Hydrafacial and Fractional Laser for fine lines and wrinkles, and hydration.Fractional laser works to boost collagen and elastin levels in the skin, and at the same time tobreak down pigmentation concentrations leaving the skin looking brighter and more toned.Hydrafacial clears up pores and hydrates the skin, in addition to giving it a youthful glow.

2 – Eyes – lines /brighten / tighten / dark circles

Procedure – Biorevitalization, PRP and Botox are the most used when it comes to theeyes. Botox aka Botulinum Toxin Type A, when injected around the eyes area relaxes themuscles, and in return does away with wrinkles around that area, also known as “Crows Feet”.PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), which is found within our blood and takes more than 50percent of our blood’s volume, is filled with growth factors that stimulate stem cells. Blood isdrawn from the patient and then run through a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the rest ofthe blood cells. When injected into the target area (e.g. sunken eyes, dark circles etc) itrestores skin tightness and youthful contours combined with an evened-out skin tone andvolume restoration. Biorevitalization on the other hand is a technique which involves the useof unmodified non-animal hyaluronic acid in very small doses, which is targeted and injectedinto the dermal layer of the skin. The purpose of this treatment is to naturally stimulate skincells which in turn trigger collagen production leading to skin elasticity, hydration andtightness, making it excellent for the eyes.

Quick fix – Shiseido Eye Zone Corrector in 104 is my go to for instant hydrating, blurringeffect that’s hides all the bad bits.

3 – Lips – plump / hydrate / lines

Procedure – For the lips, the most commonly used treatment is Dermal Fillers. These arebasically injectables that restore volume and diminish wrinkles from the lips. Dermal Fillers aremade up of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance found within our bodies. The mostcommon brands of dermal fillers are Restylane, Juvederm and Voluma; with each having adifferent lasting power and density.

Product – Fillerina Lip Volume Gel helps the increase in lip volume thanks to the filling andplumping action of its 6 hyaluronic acid molecules with different molecular weights thatpenetrate the different cutaneous layers. A dermo-cosmetic filler treatment to plump up thecutaneous tissues.

4 – Hands – they are often the first to show signs of aging

Procedure – Most commonly used anti-aging treatment for the hands is Dermal Fillerswhich give some volume restoration, making the hands look a bit youthful with less-pronounced veins. (See above on dermal fillers).

Quick fix – Just keep them moisturised.

5 – Neck – I’m always amazed at the amount people will spend on lotions and potions for theirface and forget about their neck.

Procedure – Ultherapy, which is known as Hollywood’s Beauty Secret, is the most requestedtreatment when it comes to the neck. This is because the treatment is made specifically forthe neck, brows, jowls, cheeks, chin and the chest décolleté, making it safer. Ultherapy is anon-invasive anti-aging treatment that reverses any signs of aging through the power ofsound. The treatment works by emitting controlled heat energy, which when it penetrates theskin, encourages the production of new collagen and elastin, which results in a more firm andtight skin. The treatment doesn’t have any downtime or scarring.

6 – Forehead – wrinkles / lines

Procedure – The most used for fine lines and wrinkles; it would be Botox (see above).

Product – This one is a little bit different from theothers as I found a home remedy the most effective.With high Vitamin C content and strong exfoliatingproperties, numerous anti-aging products includelemon juice as the main ingredient. What you need todo is cut a lemon massage the liquid into wrinkles lines on the forehead. If you want, mix lemon juice and
