Welcome to Christ the Servant Lutheran Church

Prelude Music “Where Were You” Verse 1 Calling and calling, nobody home.

It feels like I’m falling alone. Out on an island, SOS on the beach Watching your plane pass over me. How could you miss me with my hands in the air? I thought you were listening; I though you’d be there.

Chorus 1: Where were You when I had no one to turn to? Where were You when my worst fears were coming true? Where were You? I thought you’d come to my rescue. Where were You?

Verse 2 One set of footprints on the path I’ve been on But you say you’ve been here all along - Oh If you really love me like nobody else, Why was I walking through hell? How could you miss me with hands in the air? I thought you were listening; I though you were there. Chorus 1: Bridge: When my prayers bounced off the ceiling I was facing down my demons When my legs gave out beneath me And I fell into your arms Chorus 2: Where were You when I had no one to turn to? You carried me through, on Your shoulders black and blue I never knew the footprints in the sand were You Were You…….. Ending: One set of footprints on the path I’ve been on Now I know they were Yours all along

Welcome & Centering Time

Thanksgiving for Baptism

All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism,

as the presiding minister begins.

Joined to Christ in the waters of baptism,

we are raised with him to new life.

Let us give thanks for the gift of baptism.

Water may be poured as the presiding minister gives thanks.

We give you thanks, O God,

for in the beginning you created us in your image

and planted us in a well-watered garden.

In the desert you promised pools of water for the parched,

and you gave us water from the rock.

When we did not know the way,

you sent the Good Shepherd to lead us to still waters.

At the cross, you watered us from Jesus’ wounded side,

and on this day, you shower us again with the water of life.

We praise you for your salvation through water,

for the water in this font, and for all water everywhere.

Bathe us in your forgiveness, grace, and love.

Satisfy the thirsty, and give us the life only you can give.

To you be given honor and praise

through Jesus Christ our Lord

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Amen

Gathering Song “Reckless Love” Verse 1

Before I spoke a word You were singing over me You have been so so good to me

Before I took a breath You breathed Your life in me You have been so so kind to me

Chorus

(And) O the overwhelming never-ending reckless Love of God

O it chases me down fights 'til I'm found Leaves the ninety-nine

I couldn't earn it I don't deserve it Still You give Yourself away

O the overwhelming never-ending reckless Love of God yeah

Verse 2

When I was Your foe still Your love fought for me You have been so so good to me

When I felt no worth You paid it all for me You have been so so kind to me Chorus:

Bridge

There's no shadow You won't light up Mountain You won't climb up

Coming after me There's no wall You won't kick down

Lie You won't tear down Coming after me

Chorus:

Prayer of the Day Let us pray… You are great, O God, and greatly to be praised. You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you. Grant that we may believe in you, call upon you, know you, and serve you, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen

The First Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

1If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant 5or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. 7It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. 9For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

The Gospel Reading: Mark 10:17-27

117As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" 18Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.

19You know the commandments: 'You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honor your father and mother.'" 20He said to him, "Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth." 21Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me." 22When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions. 23Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!" 24And the disciples were perplexed at these words. But Jesus said to them again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." 26They were greatly astounded and said to one another, "Then who can be saved?" 27Jesus looked at them and said, "For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible." The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

Sermon “Fruit of the Spirit: Love”

Pastor Bob Lehner Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Prayers of Intercession Response: Hear us, O God, Your mercy is great.

Peace The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you.

You are invited to share God’s peace.

Offering Offering Song “How He Loves”

Verse 1 He is jealous for me loves like a hurricane

I am a tree bending beneath The weight of His wind and mercy

When all of a sudden I am unaware of These afflictions eclipsed by glory I realize just how beautiful You are

And how great Your affections are for me

Pre-Chorus Oh how He loves us so, Oh how He loves us,

How He loves us so (REPEAT VERSE 1 & PRE-CHORUS)

Chorus

(Yeah) He loves us. Oh how He loves us, Oh how He loves us. Oh how He loves

(REPEAT)

Bridge We are His portion and He is our prize

Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes If grace is an ocean we're all sinking

So Heaven meets earth Like a sloppy wet (unforeseen) kiss

And my heart turns violently inside of my chest I don't have time to maintain these regrets

When I think about the way that Chorus:

Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

Blessing God, the creator, Jesus, the Christ, and the Holy Spirit, the comforter, bless you and keep you in eternal love. Amen
