Our Year in Review – 2007Mission of Mercy finished 2007 with a number of wonderful accomplishments and excitingplans for the future.

After 10 years of working as a volunteer and then a member of the Board of Directors, I ampleased to begin serving Mission of Mercy as the Chief Executive Officer. My 40 years ofcorporate and international management have repeatedly demonstrated to me that when anorganization has a commodity or service that is vital, and when they stay focused on theirmission, great things can happen. I believe Mission of Mercy is well positioned in each of itsthree regional markets - Arizona, Maryland/Pennsylvania and Texas - to provide the very besthealthcare available. Our patients continue to be the face and heart of this great non-profit

and, as our mission statement states, we “seek to restore dignity to all people by being an instrument of ‘healing throughLove,’ and by the reciprocal sharing of God’s mercy with those we serve.”

What attracts volunteers and supporters to Mission of Mercy is not just the excellent healthcare services that are providedto the uninsured working poor – many of whom have fallen through the cracks and have no where else to turn – but alsothe way our volunteers and staff approach their work and their mission. We are serious about the concept of “healingthrough Love” and believe that when we serve others and open our own hearts to receive love from our patients, God’sLove and Mercy are present. Our patients are served by the finest, most loving volunteers and staff that I have everwitnessed.

Basic medical care does not fully describe the services we have provided to the nearly 60,000 patients that have walkedthrough our doors since 1994. Over the years, Mission of Mercy has seen a substantial increase in patients that sufferfrom one or more debilitating chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and other problems. Wehave become the doctor’s office to those who can not otherwise see a doctor, but need to be under a doctor’s care. Withproper care, prescription medications and treatment, our chronically ill patients can live a productive life, continuing toparticipate in their family, community and work lives.

Our Foundress, Gianna Talone-Sullivan, Pharm.D, understood that if you diagnose a patient’s disease, but they can notafford the medicine that will help them feel better, you have not really improved their situation. In fact, this actually strips apatient of their dignity. As a result, from day one Mission of Mercy built a large formulary of generic medications that areprovided to our patients free of charge. When some of our chronically ill patients need to be treated with high-cost brandname medications, we help them receive their prescription drugs at no cost from pharmaceutical companies.

Our mobile clinics respond to the needs of our patients and the unmet needs of the communities we serve. This has ledus to offer specialized treatment or services at specific clinics. For example, at many of the Maryland and Pennsylvaniaclinics we have a fully equipped dental program staffed entirely by volunteers. Similarly, the clinics in Arizona havedeveloped a special Living with Diabetes program to more completely serve the needs of their patients. At several clinicsin Maryland, volunteer Physical Therapists provide services on-site and we have operated a Prenatal program for over 5years at our Frederick, MD site.

No health practice can serve all the needs of its patients, and this is true for Mission of Mercy. We have developed abroad spectrum of diagnostic services and referral specialists that are willing to provide service to Mission of Mercypatients without charge. We could not provide the quality of healthcare services without the important services that ourcollaborative partners provide.

I hope you find this 2007 Annual Report enlightening about our services, so much so that it inspires you to take action. Ifthe Mission of Mercy story and our programs touch your heart, I invite you to get to know us even better. Read about ourCoffee with M.O.M. one-hour tours in this Annual Report and plan to attend one soon! We’d love to meet you!

May God continue to richly bless you and Mission of Mercy.

Henry W. Konerko, Ph.D.Chief Executive Officer

Medical CareMission of Mercy’s mobile clinics are set-up similar to a primarycare doctor’s office, except we provide free healthcare and freeprescription medications to our patients. Translators are available atthe clinic to ensure that foreign-speaking patients understand thedoctor’s explanations. After registration by volunteers, patients meetwith triage nurses for evaluation. Our triage nurses can perform 13tests from our onsite laboratory. Each patient visits with a physician, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant for diagnoses andtreatment of acute and chronic illnesses. Currently, over 50% of ourpatients suffer from a chronic condition and depend on Mission ofMercy for their treatment and prescription medications. After ourclinicians diagnose a chronic illness, we strongly encourage ourpatients to return for regularlyscheduled appointments. Thisstrategy allows our physiciansto monitor their condition andprovide them with theirprescribed medications. Lackof health insurance likelycontributes to inappropriateuse of emergencydepartments by people withchronic conditions, resulting inhigher costs and capacityissues for the healthcare

system. Compared to the privately insured, the uninsured with chronic conditionsreported almost twice the number of emergency room visits.

All staff and volunteers are licensed and Mission of Mercy Medical Directors are onsite daily to supervise all clinicoperations. Mission of Mercy’s clinic staff maintains and prepares medical records just as any private clinic orphysician’s office would. We also keep diagnostic and treatment logs in a computerized database, which enables us to

Who We ServeLiving without access to affordable healthcare is becoming the norm for an increasing number of Americans. According tothe U.S. Census Bureau, an estimated 47 million people lacked health insurance in 2006 – nearly 16 percent of thepopulation. And of those uninsured, nearly 80% held part or full-time employment. Lack of health insurance coverage isno longer an issue primarily affecting the homeless or the mostdestitute in this country, it is now a reality for a growing number ofworking Americans with moderate to middle incomes. Thesefamilies are falling through the cracks, making too much moneyfor Medicaid coverage but not enough to cover health insuranceon their own.

Mission of Mercy’s patients are predominately the working poor, who pay taxes, and do not receive government assistance. Majorfactors impeding care for these persons is the lack of healthinsurance or, for those who are underinsured, the lack of out ofpocket funds to pay for non-covered services, such as co-pays,deductibles, and prescriptions. Without access to healthcare, theworking poor and their families suffer most. Too often, they mustdrop out of the workforce, forgo care or seek treatment atemergency rooms, saddling them with bills they cannot pay.

“I recently visited the Mission ofMercy mobile clinic at your Phoenixlocation. I was in need of clinicalservices and medical advice, andI was surprised to receive medicalcare in such a considerate andhumanistic manner. Many times, services provided for indigentpeople and the working poorare not self-esteem buildingexperiences.

When economics limit youroptions and you’re afraid and notfeeling well, being treated withrespect is an emotional andphysical healing in itself. Thank youfor combining professionalism andcommon courtesy while treatingpeople in need.”

- Michael D. (patient)

In 2007, Mission of Mercy provided for 18,926 patient visits at its 18 clinic locations in Arizona, Maryland, Pennsylvaniaand Texas. Our patient profiles are: 49% Adult Female; 26% Adult Male, 19% Children; 6% Elderly; 68% Minority; 95%Uninsured; and 5% Under-insured.

Pharmaceutical CarePrescription medications are a vital part of total patient care. Ourmobile clinic serves not only as a doctor’s office, but also as apharmacy. After treatment, patients are directed to an onsitepharmacist to receive free prescription medications and directionson their use. Mission of Mercy’s formulary contains over 225 typesof medications. Currently, over 50% of our patients suffers fromone or more chronic conditions and depend on Mission of Mercyfor ongoing prescription medications to control their illness. Onaverage, each patient leaves with 2 prescriptions per visit.

In 2007, Mission of Mercy dispensed over 40,000 prescriptionmedications to our patients. Some patients leave with just onefree prescription, but it is not unusual that Mission of Mercy willprovide up to eight different medications to treat a patient’s chronicconditions. While Mission of Mercy purchases most of themedications we dispense, we are also one of the most active users of Indigent Drug Programs that pharmaceuticalcompanies sponsor for patients that meet income qualifications. Last year, we received nearly $865,000 of medicationsthrough donations and drug company programs.

track disease trends and patient compliance. If a patient was to become illon a day that we are not at their regular site of treatment, they could cometo any other site for care. If a patient cannot access another site, they cancontact the mobile clinic directly during clinic hours to consult with aphysician. Patients who require specialty care not offered at the clinics arereferred to doctors in the community who generously provide their servicesto our patients without charge. Mission of Mercy also receives significantsupport from area hospitals that donate lab, diagnostic and x-ray services,as well as surgical procedures.

Medical Services Available at the Mobile Clinics:Head, Eye, Ears, Nose and Throat • Neck • CardiovascularRespiratory • Gastrointestinal • Genitourinary • MusculoskeletalSkin Conditions • Glandular

Oral HealthcareAccess to primary healthcare services and those that areancillary to preventive care, such as dental care are critical intreating existing conditions and preventing them from leadingto other serious healthcare issues. Mission of Mercy isdistinctive in its services in that it provides the uninsured poorwith access to free oral healthcare. Unfortunately, theuninsured are often forced to delay seeking dental care, andby the time they learn that we can treat them they areexperiencing severe pain, tooth decay and infection.Extractions and filings are the remedy for most, includingtreatment with antibiotics.

Dental healthcare services are currently offered only in theMaryland/Pennsylvania program at seven clinic sites. In

2007, Mission of Mercy performed 3,430 dental procedures during 830 patient visits. Twenty volunteer dentists and eightdental assistants/hygenists provide this care to our patients.

Prenatal CareFor the mothers we serve, Mission of Mercy is their only access to prenatalcare. Through this program, potentially serious complications like pre-termbirths and low birth weight can be diagnosed early while treatment is stillfeasible. Mothers participating in thePrenatal Program receive a series ofregular visits with a OB-GYN doctorand/or nurse mid-wife. In addition, laband diagnostic imaging services, suchas fetal ultrasound and Dopplerimaging are performed. Mothers arefurnished with a supply of daily

multivitamins. Prior to a mother’s due date, she is provided with a copy ofher complete medical records. When she goes into labor and presentsherself at the hospital, they will have needed background information onthe prenatal care she has received.

In 2007, nearly 100 pregnant women had almost 300 visits to the PrenatalProgram offered at the Frederick, Maryland clinic site.

Physical TherapyDoctors often recommend physical therapy to patients whohave been injured or have mobility issues from an illness, disease, or disability. Physical therapists can help relieve painand assist people to resume their daily activities.

The Mission of Mercy Maryland/Pennsylvania Program has beengifted by the addition of licensed volunteer Physical Therapists to assist patientsat the Frederick, Brunswick, and Mount Airy, MD clinic sites, and at theGettysburg, PA site. Using ultrasound, deep massage therapy and creatingindividualized physical exercise plans, physicaltherapists work with patients who have chronic painand injuries to help them regain strength and rangeof motion, and also show them how to prevent arecurring injury.

In 2007, Mission of Mercy provided 150 physicaltherapy sessions to 62 patients. If you or someoneyou know is a licensed physical therapist and would

like to help, please call the nearest Mission of Mercy regional office near you(contact information on back cover).

“I was really in pain and you all tookyour time to help me without pay. Inthis world, it’s hard to find people thatwill give of themselves. You are allpoints of light for God. Thank you somuch!”

Coffee With M.O.M.In 2007, the Mission of Mercy Arizona Program expanded their fundraising strategy to include a friendship campaign to personally introducemore individuals to their clinics through a series of 1-hour clinic toursand a year-end community awareness breakfast called Mercy in theMorning. The response has been overwhelming! At their 1st Annualbreakfast, over $400,000 in current gifts and multi-year pledges werereceived.

Further, the on-site tours have brought people who were unfamiliar withMission of Mercy to see our work in action. It has generated new funds, partnerships, gifts-in-kind, volunteers and community advocates, as wellas reinvigorated existing volunteers and donors.

In 2008, Coffee with M.O.M tours hope to expand and will be offered at the Maryland/Pennsylvania Program site inFrederick, MD and at the Texas Program site in Corpus Christi. If you are interested in participating in a future tour, contact the Arizona office at 602.288.7234, the Maryland/Pennsylvania office at 301.682.5683 or the Texas office at361.883.5500 to make a reservation to attend. Contributions and SupportMission of Mercy patients are the working poor and traditionallyhave low incomes. Of those that do have insurance coverage, many are unable to afford the additional co-payments required forhealthcare services and medications. For these reasons, we do notcharge our patients a fee for the services they receive. The onlyincome for all of Mission of Mercy’s operations is derived fromprivate donations and no government funds are used. Patients arewelcome to make a voluntary donation.

All members of Mission of Mercy’s Board of Directors and staff support the organization financially. Ongoing regularfinancial support remains our greatest need. Mission of Mercy is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization and all donations aretax-deductible. We also accept donations of goods and services. The Mission of Mercy Tax ID# is 86-0704883.

A Note From Our Foundress

My Dear Friends,

The world is witnessing a significant increase in natural disasters, and more and more people are being displaced from homes andjobs. As a result, basic physical, psychosocial and medical needsare escalating. People are crying desperately for help! Throughcountless hours of hard work and the unconditional generosity ofMission of Mercy volunteers and benefactors, literally tens ofthousands of wounded people, who are hungering and thirsting forLove, have received the medical care they need and the hope thatcan only be found in God’s Love.

It is easy to focus on just the political issues or the financial andsocial crises which we now face. But in doing so, we become blindto the call of love and service. Yes, the poor may always be withus, and we may never be able to fully understand the mystery ofsuffering and poverty in our world; however, there is no excuse notto genuinely love and serve the poor.

This is why prayer is essential to Mission of Mercy’s existence, for it is only through prayer—when we stand before Godand humbly bow to Him—that we can secure our own dignity. It is through prayer from the heart that our longing andfaithfulness to God allows us to grow and mature. It allows us to be humble laborers in the field of God’s Love and givesHim praise as we serve those He sends into our lives each day. Prayer allows us to remove our self-will and be filled withGod’s Will. It provides us with the grace to persevere in an uncertain future, trusting in God’s care, Love and Mercy. When someone is struck by tragedy, whether it be a natural disaster or the very difficult day-to-day circumstances andsituations in which so many of God’s children find themselves, it is sometimes easy for us to become blind to God’s worksof Love. However, there is no favoritism in God’s Love; and another’s tragedy may be the opportunity, possibly even thefinal opportunity, for both that person and each of us to grow in God’s Love. Prayer is the lifeblood of Mission of Mercy!

Thank you for your prayers, your financial generosity and your selfless giving of time. Know you have given, to manysuffering and struggling people seeking care, a light of hope and a life filled with a little more Love, Respect and Dignity.

You and your loved ones remain in my prayers always.
