El poderoso tema que presenta la liturgia de hoy es el de la fe, la esperanza y la confianza en Dios. Durante la próxima semana, en los buenos y no tan buenos momentos que componen nuestros días, la Palabra de Dios está allí para inspirarnos, sostenernos y alentarnos. ¿Cómo nos hemos sentido durante la semana pasada? ¿Cuáles fueron los momentos clave? Al mirar hacia atrás, podemos ver más fácilmente la presencia de Dios en ellos. Las lecturas de hoy nos llevan desde las dificultades que enfrenta la Iglesia primitiva a la época en que Jesús habló a sus discípulos de su muerte inminente. En estas lecturas hay una gloriosa canción de alabanza. En el mundo de hoy, cuán diferentes serían las cosas si aquellos en autoridad tomaran el ejemplo de los discípulos y se comprometieran a orar; buscando la sabiduría del Espíritu Santo en la toma de decisiones (primera lectura). Se nos recuerda que nuestra esperanza está en nuestro Dios fiel que ama la justicia y lo correcto y le ofrecemos alabanza y acción de gracias (Salmo). En la segunda lectura, Pedro habla gráficamente sobre las dificultades encontradas por la falta de fe en Dios ... que lleva directamente a una sección de la despedida de Jesús a sus discípulos. Jesús enfatiza repetidamente la necesidad crucial de creer en su palabra; la “unidad” de Él y su Padre. Él habla de la extraordinaria gracia dada a los que creen en Él.

The powerful theme running through today’s liturgy is one of faith, hope and trust in God. During the coming week, in the good and not so good moments that make up our days, God’s Word is there to inspire, sustain and encourage us. How we have been feeling during the past week; what were the key moments? As we look back we may more easily be able to see God’s presence in them. Today’s Eastertide readings take us from the difficulties facing the early Church back to the time when Jesus spoke to his disciples of his imminent death. Enfolded in these readings is a glorious song of praise. In today’s world how different things would be if those in authority took their example from the disciples and committed themselves to prayer; seeking wisdom from the Holy Spirit in their decision making (First Reading). We are reminded that our hope is in our faithful God who loves justice and right and we offer him praise and thanksgiving (Psalm). In the Second Reading, Peter speaks graphically about the difficulties encountered through lack of faith in God...leading directly to a section of Jesus’ farewell to his disciples. Jesus repeatedly emphasizes the crucial need to believe in his word; the ‘oneness’ of him and his Father. He speaks of the extraordinary grace given to those who believe in him.

Holy People, the Peace of Christ be with you. This has been a difficult time for all of us dealing with the coronavirus. Many of you are anxious about the future. I have been speaking with the bishops of Florida, our priests and other lay leaders about how to return to Church safely, honoring the sacredness of each person in protecting our sisters and brothers in Christ. There will be changes when we come back to the celebration of Mass at our parishes. We will receive the Eucharist by the sacred host alone. The Eucharist will be offered on the hand only. We will pray the Our Father without joining hands. We will bow to one another during the Sign of Peace. These are just some of the ways in which we may encounter a different Church when we open the doors of the sanctuary again. I promise to help you understand some of these changes and the reasons for them. God’s light is manifested in humble love and it shines forth on those who are prepared to accept it. Remembering the words of St. Paul, we are many parts, but one body. No matter how far apart, we remain one body in the Lord. For the Eucharist we long to receive, let us act as the Eucharist we are. Let us flourish the Eucharistic personality of the Church by living our identity with concrete acts of love in the world. Yes, this will require prayer-filled sacrifice. Pueblo Santo, la paz de Cristo este con ustedes. Este ha sido un momento difícil para todos nosotros durante el coronavirus. Muchos de ustedes están ansiosos por lo que nos depara el futuro. PARISH RE-OPEN SCHEDULE We are happy that we will be able to come back to our church for the celebration of the Most Holy Eucharist. The process to reopen the Church will need your patience and understanding. The clergy and staff are working on a plan to accommodate and follow the restrictions and guidelines that were put in and that will best serve the community of St. Augustine. When we first open, we will be allowed to use 25% of the full capacity of our church. The accommodation of our people for weekday masses will be easier to accomplish, but on Sundays, we have more issues to resolve to open masses. Again, we appeal to you to be patient and cooperative as we put a plan in place to safely reopen our place of worship. The celebration of DAILY MASS will begin on Monday, May 18th. Appropriate social distancing will be required. People may be denied entrance upon arrival or asked to leave the church if the numbers become greater than social distancing would allow.

HORARIO DE REAPERTURA DE LA PARROQUIA Estamos felices de poder regresar a nuestra parroquia para la celebración de la Santísima Eucaristía. El proceso para reabrir la parroquia necesitará su paciencia y comprensión. El clero y el personal están trabajando en un plan para acomodar y seguir las restricciones y pautas de los profesionales de la salud y que servirán mejor a la comunidad de San Agustín.

Cuando abramos por primera vez, se nos permitirá usar el 25% de la capacidad total de nuestra iglesia.
