The Skills Show, part of Find a Future, is the nationslargest skills and careers event, providing youngpeople with opportunities to discover what theyare good at and what they enjoy, through
interactive activities and experiences which helpto shape their futures and transform their lives.
Taking place from 13 to 15 November 2014 at theNEC Birmingham, The Skills Show provides hands-on experiences that inspire young people to explorefurther education, skills and Apprenticeships.
WHAT IS THESKILLS SHOW?
Visitors will be able to:
See over 65 WorldSkills UK Skills Competitionsfrom floristry to culinary arts
Have a Go at a wide variety of work-basedskills from web design to healthcare
Get impartial advice from careers professionals
Speak to a range of employers, collegesand training providers
Hear inspirational talks across a rangeof professions

Volunteering has inspired me in mywork at college and beyond. It was reallygreat that my volunteer role related tomy carpentry and joinery college course.All the training I received is relevant tomy course, as you have to consider thesame things in the workshop that youdo on the show floor. Im now reallysure that I want to do this type of workfor the rest of my life!

The 854 volunteers who took part in the 2013event delivered over 20,000 hours of volunteering.Their contribution in both time and energy ensuredthe visitor experience was exceptional and without
them the show would not have been possible.This year we are looking for 15 volunteer teamleaders and 850 show team volunteers to assist indelivering The Skills Show to guarantee that weproduce the same exciting and successful eventas in 2013.
Why do we need team leaders?
Our volunteer team leaders will guide and leada group of show team volunteers. Volunteersare present throughout every stage of the show;
from the build, main event and break downphase. The team leaders are needed to play anenthusiastic and senior position in helping usdeliver a smooth and positive experience forboth visitors and other volunteers.
WE NEED YOU!Volunteers are crucial to The Skills Show
Event support working with our eventsteam in building and breaking down the event,as well as overseeing the whole show andhelping all teams working at the venue
Event steward working with our operationsteam, key contractors in security and customerservices and ensuring all visitors at the showare looked after
Logistics and technical helping the logisticsand technical teams
Health and Safety working alongside theevent organisers and exhibitors

Whats involved?Responsibilities
As a volunteer team leader we will needyou to:
Attend a briefing and de-briefing sessionwith The Skills Show volunteer team eachmorning and evening
Meet your show team volunteers uponarrival and register and brief them
Delegate roles to show team volunteersduring their shift
Provide regular updates to The Skills Showvolunteer team via radio and agreedcommunication channels
Support, mentor and motivate show teamvolunteers in their role
Take photos and draft case studies of
volunteers to update The Skills Showwebsite
Set a good example to show teamvolunteers by working with them
Be the link between floor managers, TheSkills Show volunteer team and volunteers
Evaluate your role and outcomes withThe Skills Show volunteer team at theend of the event
Collect feedback and evaluation forms fromshow team volunteers at the end of shifts
Help volunteers claim expenses and signout at the end of shifts
Have you got what it takes?
To take on a volunteer team leader roleyou will need to:
Motivate your team to ensure theycomplete tasks
Be a good communicator effectiveteam leaders are able to express theirthoughts and visions in a clear andunderstandable manner
Remain calm when working underpressure, especially when youreworking in a very busy environment
Multi-task be accommodating andflexible to sudden changes in yourenvironment and situation
Have confidence when dealing withthe public
Have a can do attitude and inspireothers to be the same
Exercise decision-making skills
Be a team player but be able to workindependently with minimal supervision,able to problem solve and prioritise tasks
Be trustworthy we want team leaderswho are dependable and responsible

WORKING
TOGETHERWhat do we expect from you?
Training
Team leaders are required to attend a three daytraining session at the NEC, Birmingham in theweek commencing 13 October 2014. Thesesessions are mandatory so that you are fully
trained before arriving on site on 7 November 2014.
Note:Some team leader roles will require you to spendsome time with our delivery team before the event takesplace at the NEC. All your expenses for this additionaltraining will be covered by The Skills Show.
Dress code
You will be given a volunteer team leader uniformby The Skills Show (e.g. t-shirts, hoodie, waterproofjacket) and will be required to wear this at all timeswhilst on-site. You will need to provide your own
dark trousers or skirt and comfortable footwear.
We need team leaders to be available fromFriday 7 November to Monday 17 November2014 inclusive
On-site briefings take place every morningat 7.30am during the 11 day period
Note:The shifts each volunteer team leader isrequired to work will differ depending on whichdepartment you are supporting.

Note:To keep travel costs down, travel should be booked
in advance and restricted to economy class. The Skills Showwill not cover additional costs such as room service in your
hotel, travel to and from the event site or any activitieswhen you are not on shift during The Skills Show.
Training and personal development:
Hotel accommodation and meals
A maximum of 50 will be provided fortravel to and from the training sessions
