FESTIVALS IN SIARGAO ISLAND BURGOS, Surigao SDN- Lukay-Lukay (palm leaf) Festival is celebrated every year, as a major highlight of the town fiesta, which date usually falls on July 26. The celebration was sought to give thanks to the town patron Sra. Sta Ana for a bountiful coco harvest that become a major livelihood of the townspeople. The said DAPA, Surigao SDN- Hudyaka (SPREE) Festival is the most prestigious inter-municipality competition in the island. Considering the town as the commercial center, the festival is participated by various schools and entities. Hudyaka Festival is much like the Cebu’s Sinulog celebration taking that both have the same patron saint- St. Nino and both are celebrated on the 2 nd week of the month of January. The festival was renamed as ‘Hudyaka Festival’ last 2009 after using the GEN. LUNA, Surigao SDN- 3 Tikyabang Festival. Known as the surfing site of the country, the municipality of Gen. The celebration was sought to give thanks to the town patron Sra. Sta Ana for a bountiful coco harvest that become a major livelihood of the townspeople. The said festival started in the year 2009.

Hudyaka (SPREE) Festival is the most prestigious inter-municipality competition in the island. Considering the town as the commercial center, the festival is participated by various schools and entities. Hudyaka Festival is much like the Cebu’s Sinulog celebration taking that both have the same patron saint- St. Nino and both are celebrated on the 2nd week of the month of January. The festival was renamed as ‘Hudyaka Festival’ last 2009 after using the name ‘Ato-Ato Ra Sinulog Festival’ for about 10 years because of its unoriginality. So far, there was no published documentary about the festival.

GEN. LUNA, Surigao SDN- 3

Tikyabang Festival. Known as the surfing site of the country, the municipality of Gen. Luna has also its proudly unique festivity which they offer towards their patron saint Santo Tomas de Villanueva for a blessed harvest of crabs during harvest seasons. The first Tikyabang festival was highlighted on 2009 as a major highlight in their town fiesta (September 26- 30).

Bakhaw (Mangrove) Festival marks a celebration, in honoring of the Lady of Carmen, commemorating its eco-tourist spot region of having the vastest mangrove forest in Asia. The festival was initiated in 2008 as a major fiesta event (July 15-16)
