What is it like? Delicate handmade lanterns light up in different parts of cities and rural areas creating a special environment. People carry lanterns and write riddles on a piece of paper and have other people try to guess the answers. If someone is able to answer correctly, he or she will receive a small gift. This tradition appeared during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing that is very interesting and full of wisdom, it has become a popular activity.

SONGKRAN FESTIVALSONGKRAN FESTIVALThailand Starting on April 13th and finishing on April 15th.What is it like? Probably the largest and funniest crowd in Bangkok; The entire 5 km length of this street - mostly known for Patpong - is divided in two levels with thousands of young Thais carrying anything that can spray water. The best part is that you can enjoy the party in relatively dry surroundings by staying on the BTS sky walk that runs above the street. From up there you can witness the full extent of the game: a huge colorful crowd of smiling young Thais slowly walking between two rows of stalls selling water guns, food, soft drinks and of course, lots of beer.

THE CHEESE ROLLINGTHE CHEESE ROLLING FESTIVAL FESTIVALCooper's Hill In Gloucester, England Last Monday in May, Spring. What is it like? From the top of the hill a 7 lb round of Double Gloucester cheese is rolled, and competitors race down the hill after it. The first person over the finish line at the bottom of the hill wins the cheese. In theory, competitors are aiming to catch the cheese, however it has around a one second head start and can reach speeds up to 70 mph (112 km/h),enough to knock over and injure a spectator. The event takes its name from the hill on which it occurs. The event is traditional. In recent years, it has been managed in a quasi-official manner.

THE BORYEONG MUD FESTIVALTHE BORYEONG MUD FESTIVALSouth KoreaIn summer in Boryeong, a town around 200 km south of Seoul. What is it like? The mud is taken from the Boryeong mud flats, and trucked to the Daecheon beach area, where it is used as the centrepiece of the 'Mud Experience Land'. The mud is considered rich in minerals and used to manufacture cosmetics. The festival was originally conceived as a marketing vehicle for Boryeong mud cosmetics. Although the festival takes place over a period of around two weeks, it is most famous for its final weekend, which is popular with Korea's western population. The final weekend of the festival usually falls on the second weekend in July.
