Bed-Breakfast-Prayer“Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay” 1 Peter 4:9

The Gift of Hospitality

Have you ever opened your home to others as theytraveled across the country offering a night’s stay and meal? Ifyou have, then you were doing what the Word of God tells usto do, sharing our homes with those in need. The gift ofhospitality is Kingdom Living, which is what we do in CFO.

This is the motivation for a new ministry for CFO - toprovide overnight stays in homes of CFOers to other CFOersand potential new campers, called Bed-Breakfast-Prayer.

We want to create anetwork of Host Homesacross NA and you can bethe first in your area to join.

Over the past few months I’ve been reading comments on Facebook/ CFOFamily about CFO camps held this summer.

were some of the comments mentioned. Galations 5:25 encouragesus, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Great foodfor thought, because that’s where we need to be when we talk about andpromote Kingdom Living through CFO.

As Robin Smalt, 2012-13 ACR Chair, put it at our recent annual meeting inCalifornia, we as CFO’ers need to be thinking and doing:

1) Ongoing Prayer Groups2) (How we are in) Relationships to our Zones, and3) Commitment to Outreach

Mary Uht from California further put it in the acrostic (AdvisoryCouncil Ring):

ctive Prayer Groupsommitted to Outreachelationship to Zones

I would add “Semper Gumby- always flexible” because beingin step with His Spirit could (and usually does!) take us into“unconventional waters.” Let’s think on these things and pursuethem always letting the Lord be our Guide!

AlwaysFlexible!

Cometo theTable!

We all agree that our CFOexperience shouldn’t end just becauseour CFO camp or retreat has ended. To provide us a way to overcome thegeographical separation whichhinders close fellowship when ourCFO camp or retreat ends, we haveintroduced an important new toolcalled . This tool ishelping ACFO realize the fruits andblessings of its Prayer Initiative. ThePrayer Initiative is an overarchingemphasis on prayer in every elementof CFO. Unity in prayer is thefoundation of ACFO’s vision toexpand its outreach to NorthAmerica, and also to help strengthenCFO International’s outreach to therest of this world.

We believe theis an important new tool for theCFO community. We believethis tool can help us extend the CFOexperience into the places where welive, work, and play. Theis a private online network thatenables us to connect with otherCFOers at anytime, anywhere.Instructions on how to join thisexciting new CFO experience areprovided at the top of the next pageand at the end of this article.

Although the hasmany capabilities for interaction andbuilding community, for now, theprimary purpose is for prayer. Forover a year, your directors have been

using the to discover itsbenefits and learn its use as a tool forprayer within CFO. Organized andadministered through the ACFO Zonestructure, it is our goal and hope foreach Council Ring to participate onthe as a continuouslyfunctioning prayer group.

You can be as connected as youwant to be with your prayer groupthrough an app on your smart phoneor through e-mail on your computer.Reasons for the need of prayer in yourlife rarely come on the night of your

scheduled prayer group or just beforea scheduled church service. It hasbeen our experience that withinminutes of posting a prayer requestseveral assurances of directed prayerare provided to the person in need.Often included are comforting andassuring words provided by theperson praying. Just a few of thebenefits we experience include:● Overcoming the separation of

geographical distances● Providing the intimacy & warmth

of the family dinner table● Uniting a group through prayer● Providing prayer at the time of

need

● Easy to use, free to join, and private within theCFO community or group

● Providing a way for a council ring to communicateeffectively & more oftenWe believe the will help extend the

work of each Council Ring into more of our localcommunities where we each work, live, and play.Through an effective prayer connection within theCFO Community we will engage our friends andfamilies in a community that is vibrant, alive, andcreatively demonstrating the love, joy, and power ofwalking in God’s Kingdom…each moment…eachhour…each day! So you are invited to

and join us for prayer… we areexcited, expectant, and trusting in God’s blessings andgrace that will pour forth from this prayer initiative.

As most of you know, Glenn Clark was thefounder of Camps Farthest Out. A 1958 article from

framed a picture of thisunique and Godly man from his views on prayer andthe church. Glenn’s views on prayer and the churchare still evident in CFO today. The following areexcerpts from that 1958 article.

“Glenn taught that one’s conversation with Godshould not be limited merely to asking for somethingbut one should be ready to relinquish the request intoGod’s hands and to ask sincerely for God’s will to bedone. Glenn was at his best when talking about theteachings of Jesus. He wasn’t an ordained minister. He was free of the dogmatic teachings, customs, andrituals that the usual minister must carry. Yet for thechurch he held a profound reverence. This gentleman, possessing great spiritual insight andunderstanding, sent each CFO camper back to his orher church.”

Glenn understood that to live life in the freshnessand creative environment of the Lord’s Kingdomrequired us to daily submit to His Will in our lives. The Prayer Initiative in ACFO is providing tools forCFOers to practice this in their daily lives. Helping usalong the way is the community of believers we findin our churches that provide encouragement andsupport for our spiritual journey.

Can’t you hear the affection in his voice:“Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted bymany things.” Jesus calls it like he sees it—and Ithink what he sees is not only Martha, but all of us.How prone we are to worry and distraction! We givethem temporary shelter and before we know itthey’ve taken up long-term residence, they and alltheir anxious children. We simply want to show a bitof compassion and caring, and before you know itthe worries have installed new carpet and boughtking-size beds.

Compassion and caring call us beyondourselves, to a bigger experience of the world, whereas worry and distraction squeeze us intosmaller and smaller circles. Compassion sends ourroots down into the fertile loam of God’s presencein the world, regardless of how inconvenient theactions we are called to take might be; compassionflows through us, taking us beyond our perceivedlimitations. Worry, on the other hand, gains astranglehold bit by bit, tangling around our ankles, tripping us up, a pesky weed strutting about at thesurface of things, choking off the feeding of God’slife within. Pondering the depths, where “the fullnessof God is pleased to dwell,” is always the enemy ofworry. In the depths we see worry for what it is—aselfish desire for control.

For most of us, pondering the fullness of Godbrings a suffering of sorts. We simply cannot do itand continue to be who we’ve grown familiar with

The church is a place ofworship, a place of peace, and a place of growth. CFOhas always sought to work insupport of the local churchesby being a place that pointsus only to Jesus and not todoctrine. An authenticchurch is a community ofpeople whose commonconnection is Jesus andwhose common purpose isan on-going and developingrelationship with God.Although in our individualchurches, we may worshipdifferently, pray differently, and interpret the Bibledifferently, it is now — andalways has been —

reconcile us to our Father.Jesus is the to guideus along the journey back tothe Father. Jesus is thethat we find within theKingdom of God. We are not called to choose sides but to choose God.As we search for truth, we develop opinions and

perspectives about the critical issues in our world and inour faith. This pursuit of knowledge and understandingbecomes a strong fabric of our beings. However as wealso walk in relationship with our God we realize thesecarefully developed and justifiable opinions must also yieldto the Perfect Will of the Father in order for us to live outHis Divine Plan for our lives. Our personal opinions andpreferences must never become a tool in our hands toelevate ourselves in the eyes of God or in the eyes of others.

Dare we choose to lay down our prejudices, ourpassions, and our pointing?

Dare we choose to accept the mantle of humility and meekness from Jesus, the Princeof Peace?

As I have absorbed His Will and His Heart into my life…my opinions grow softer…myperspective becomes wider…my preferences become His!

being. For Paul, suffering meantimprisonment and torture, as well asstruggling to convey the riches oftransformation in Christ. Martha’ssuffering was the tension of leaving thework of hospitality unfinished even if noone else did it. Each of us suffersdifferently as we try to manage work andrelationships and homes and callings toco-create with God evidence of a redeemedworld. What if everyone did nothing exceptsit at Jesus’ feet and ponder the depths?

What kind of sorry mess would our worldbe in then?

And that, my friends, is the voice ofworry. Finding the still point within calmsworry and makes room for creativecompassion. What might it mean for ourworld if each of us chose the still point?Chose, not worry and distraction, butcompassion and caring, allowing us torejoice in our suffering and rest in “thebetter part” which cannot be taken away. What might the ripples from that sort ofquiet revolution?

We came through 2012 with a change in the fee structure and the CFO fiscal yearand I believe we made it by God's grace! I am excited to report that feedback is positive, with most everyone feeling comfortable with the changes. I am also pleased to report thatall 2012 fees are paid and almost all reports are in. Change can be difficult, but I want tothank all of the camp treasurers who worked with me to make the changes successful.

This year the ACR Finance Committee will look at insurance options to try andreduce the cost of insurance for the office and the camps. Insurance is a major expensefor all of us and we want to make sure we have adequate coverage at the least possiblecost.

In keeping with growing costs, a small increase of fees was implemented and will takeeffect January 1, 2014. The new fees will be an increase of 3% and will result is a totalcost of $20.60 for Full-Time Adults and $12.36 for Part-Time Adults. Youth are halfprice the adult rate and there is no charge for children under 3. The per day rate formeetings and CFO days will be $15.45.

No matter how clearly we feel we are communicating, there are always unansweredquestions. We want to hear your questions. We want the opportunity to respond to yourconcerns. Please contact Jenni Piatt with any questions or concerns. We love hearing fromyou!
