February 12th: Freedom Rides Museum,

Montgomery, AL

In 1961 groups of volunteers made history by

challenging the practice of segregated travel through

the South. They called themselves Freedom Riders as

they crossed racial barriers in depots and onboard

buses. This small but powerful museum tells the story of

the 1961 Freedom Rides that ended racial segregation in

public transportation. It is located in Montgomery's

former Greyhound Bus Station where student protesters faced a segregationist mob.

Exterior exhibits trace the history of the rides and the pivotal events that happened in

Montgomery. Interior exhibits include art, architecture, oral histories, and a video kiosk

where Freedom Riders and others have told their story. The cost of the trip includes

transportation and admission. Please bring extra money for lunch.

$10. Payable to the AAB. Wednesday, February 12th•10:30am-5pm. This trip is full.

Sample a beer, or two, or ten on a Birmingham Brewery Tour. We'll start on the far east side

of Birmingham and work our way west as we try IPAs, porters, kolshes, sours, and anything

else the brewmasters have created. This tour is a great opportunity to get to know craft

beer, especially, in Alabama. We'll start with lunch and samples at Back Forty Brewing

Company followed by tours at Cahaba Brewery and District Brewing. The cost of the trip

includes transportation, tour and lunch.

$85. Payable to the AAB. Friday, February 28th• 9am-4pm

March 6th: Azalea Storytelling Festival, LaGrange, GA

The 24th Azalea Storytelling Festival will take place at LaGrange College’s Callaway

Auditorium. This beloved, family-friendly event promotes the art of storytelling by bringing

nationally recognized artists together for a weekend full of storytelling concerts. This year’s

featured performers include Michael Reno Harrell, Andy Offutt Irwin, Bil Lepp, Kim

Weitkamp, and Carol Cain as Emcee. The Azalea Storytelling Festival has been recognized

as one of the oldest such festivals in the state of Georgia. Additionally, it has been

recognized by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of the Top 20 Events in the 12

Southeastern states. The National Storytelling Association bestowed on the Azalea

Storytelling Festival the Association’s Leadership Award. Furthermore, the Azalea

Storytelling Festival was nominated by the Georgia Department of Economic Development

to the American Bus Association as one of the 2012 Top 100 Events in North America.

In 2013, the founders of the Azalea Storytelling Festival received the LaGrange Troup

County Bureau of Tourism Visionary Award. The cost of the trip includes transportation and

admission. Please bring extra money for dinner.
