Pastor’s Article Joe Albright
Those Who Will Be Really Happy...
Albert Schweitzer, was a remarkably gifted author, thinker, musician and theologian. He could have
excelled in any one of those areas. In fact, before he was 30, he was a respected writer on theology,
an accomplished organist and an authority on the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach. Instead
of taking work in any of those fields, he chose to serve in an African mission hospital as a doctor.
He went to medical school for that purpose alone. For his many years of humanitarian efforts
Schweitzer was awarded the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize. He used his $33,000 Nobel Prize to expand
the hospital and to build a leper colony.
Schweitzer was once quoted as saying, “I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I
know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and
found how to serve.”
I believe it. Schweitzer is someone of deep thought, tremendous intelligence and integrity who
practiced what he preached. I have also seen this played out over many years of ministry. Those
who find a way to serve and give are by far the people most at peace with themselves and the world
around them.
Schweitzer also offered this piece of advise, “Do something for somebody everyday for which you
do not get paid.”
Beautiful! Joe

Summary of Stated Session Minutes from January 19, 2015
A continuing education opportunity was presented by Pastor Joe on the recent SMART goal
setting exercise from the Session Retreat held in November 2014.
A warm welcome and introductions were made for the new members of Session: Rita Bryant,
Kathie Ettinger, Billy Watkins, Cliff Smith and Brian Loftus. A complete listing of current
Session members and their ministry areas of responsibility may be found in the current Church
Directory and the Weekly Worship Bulletin.
Elder Rick Ulp was elected Session Clerk for 2015 as well as President of the Non-Profit
Corporation that is Geneva Presbyterian Church. Elder Cliff Smith (Properties Ministry) was
elected Vice President, and Elder Billy Watkins (Finance Ministry) was elected Treasurer.
These elections will be filed with the State of Florida for the year 2015. These selections are in
accordance with our church chartering documents.
The Session approved The Clerk and the Pastor to complete the Statistical Summary reports
due to the Presbytery for 2014. Christian Education, Finance and Office Administration will
assist in the completion of these reports.
A positive report was filed for record as a result of the completion of the Financial Audit for
the year 2013.
The Financial Report was submitted for the month of December, which included the ending
financial statement for the year 2014. The year ended on a very positive note with receipts
greater than our yearly expenditures. Prayers and thanks to the Geneva congregation for their
generous support of our church and its ministries. We are reminded that our full mortgage
payments would resume in February 2015, which will obviously affect our cash flow. The
Session approved a budget of $265,121.56 for the coming year 2015. This will be presented to
the congregation at the Annual Meeting scheduled for Sunday, February 15, 2015.
Elder Sharon Hartsell was elected Commissioner for the Spring Stated Meeting of Presbytery,
to be held February 7.
The employment contract for Pastor Albright will be reviewed at the February Stated meeting
of Session.
