SICK CALLS—Call Fr. Altman 715-423-1351

FRIDAY March 3 4:00pm—7:00pm First St. Lawrence fish fry!

The popular meditation book for Lent: “The Little Black Book,”

is available at the back of church. Two pages are set aside for reading each day: on the left an excerpt based on history, cus-

toms and traditions of the church; on the right: scripture based on this liturgical year. Please take this opportunity to spend six

minutes a day with the Lord in prayerful meditation. They also make a great spiritual gift for a friend or neighbor.

A $1.00 donation is suggested.

Fish Fries start on Friday! They will be held on the following Fridays: March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, and April 7 . Volunteer Sign Up Sheets are in the Gathering Space. Deb will be calling for pie and salad donations. Please be kind! If you have questions, you may call her. (715)421-5328. Thank you!

Stewardship Reflection—February 26, 2017 Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

St. Paul had both a deep understanding and appreciation for stewardship — what it meant to be a good steward. In his First Letter to the Corinthians, our Second Reading on this last Sunday in Ordinary Time before Lent begins, Paul states eloquently, “Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.”

As is the case with all Holy Scripture, Paul is writing to more than the Corinthians; he is writing to each of us as well. Paul understood a steward to be someone who manages the household of God. Managing included preserving and protect-ing. We are also to be servants (disciples) of Christ, and Paul goes on to say that a servant steward must be trustworthy. To Paul, that meant we are to be faithful in order to be good disciples.

There are several difficulties for us in all of those terms and requirements: being stewards, being servants, and being faithful. They mean that we have to place ourselves second to others and second, most of all, to Christ our Savior. We tend to question this and tend to have strong feelings of independence. That is what we learn from our society. Yet, to be a steward like Paul requires us to be humble and accepting. That may be our greatest test.

St. Augustine wrote, “What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of others.” That, too, is stewardship.

Scrip News: Total Scrip Sales for Feb 18/19 were $1,555, including 1 special order, from 8 SL cus-tomers. With Lent approaching, why not consider becoming a Regular scrip customer as a "Good Works project"? It benefits the church as an extra form of tithing without an extra cost.

CCW Meeting When: March 6 at 6:30pm Where: Church Hall Who: All women from the Parish are invited!

Rice Bowls are available this weekend! We trust in the mercy and love of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who went to the margins to encounter the poor, vulnera-ble and outcast. We voice our own petitions, asking for our needs and the needs of our brothers and sisters all over the world, saying, “Lord, may we love as one hu-man family.”
