Vol. XXI I Issue 2

COMMANDER’S CORNER

Have you come to the remod-

eled lounge yet? You need to

see it. It is not complete yet

but very close. There some

more additions needed in the

bar area and I’m sure the

walls will soon be covered.

This is a very special

THANK YOU to all of the

volunteers who have worked

on this project. I don’t want

to try to name them because I will, no doubt, leave a

name out. These men and women gave their time to

make this come true for all of us. There were strains

on relationships because of all the last minute

changes. I know that in my case that relationship has

been rescued, I hope that everyone else has the same

fortune.

Again volunteers: THANK YOU!!!!

We have a serious problem arising here at the Post.

People do not respect the authority of the Bar Tender,

and because of this we are losing Bar Tenders, espe-

cially at night.

The Bar Tender has total authority of the bar and

lounge when they are on duty. They cannot be jerks

about it, but the responsibility for the conduct of all is

theirs. When they call LAST CALL that is what it

means. They will call it when the patrons stop paying

and buying and are just sitting around and talking.

Our volunteers and the Post are making no money

either for the volunteer or the Post expenses. This is a

business and must make money too. Our regular clos-

ing time is 10PM, it can be earlier if there is no crowd

or later if the situation dictates. Please don’t make

this go before the Executive Board.

As always remember or service men and women who

are on active duty, especially those who may be in

harm’s way.

Chuck Blay, Commander

AUXILIARY

Planning forward helps get things done. The District

puts forth suggestions for Units to complete service

projects. We have completed some of the suggested

projects and others we haven’t done in a long time.

One of those projects is offering a First Aid and CPR

class to our members. We are excited to announce

that we will be offering a First Aid and CPR class on

Saturday, February 22nd from 8am to noon at the

Post. The class will cover CPR/AED/Adult First Aid

and will include what to do if someone has a seizure.

The class will be taught by Richard from HeartSmart

Inc. Richard recognizes we are a veteran’s organiza-

tion and therefore has discounted the cost of the class

to $20 per person. We ask that if you would like to

attend the class please sign up and pay the bartender

next time you visit the post.

Audit is Complete, or is it Mission Complete? This

past month we audited both our financial records and

membership accounts. We reviewed records going

back 2 years to find that all the information submitted

is accurate, and that all accounts are well organized

with only one recommendation of change. Thank you,

Diane Smith, for hosting as well as keeping such good

records for the Auxiliary.

Our next mission is to update our By-laws to add all

wars. We will also be updating to include men as Aux-

iliary members. We will get a committee organized to

work on this and hope to have it completed by March

1st.

Watch for our other exciting events coming this

Spring. If you able to stop by the Post on the last Sun-

day of each month to help fold newsletters, we would

surely appreciate it.

Four Chaplains Memorial Service

POST 11-11

Saturday February 1st

1:00 PM

The Four Chaplains, also sometimes referred to as the "Immortal Chaplains," were four United States Army

chaplains who gave their lives to save other civilian and military personnel during the sinking of the troop

ship USAT Dorchester on February 3, 1943, during World War II. They helped other soldiers’ board lifeboats

and gave up their own life jackets when the supply ran out. The chaplains joined arms, said prayers, and sang

hymns as they went down with the ship.

Special Invitation to those who have never seen this ceremony: new or trans-

ferred members: their friends, family and children.

It is an education in history and also a lesson in valor.

Please Plan on attending.
