February 2019 - Take Action Award Recipient Anchal Bhaskar “Let’s make campus single-use plastic free!”

Anchal, a Girl Scout Senior from Central Region: Newport Harbor Troop 871, focused on the need to eliminate single use plastic waste on her school’s campus. Over a two year period, her project eliminated over 25,000 single use bottles of water, provided with lunch at The Pegasus School in Huntington Beach. She met twice with the school principal and the lunch provider to brainstorm ideas on how to begin the elimination process. Because of these meetings and Anchal’s proposal, the school decided to set up and fund the installation of multiple hydration stations throughout the school campus. The Pegasus School campus is now a single-use, plastic-free space due to Anchal’s Take Action project.

Anchal’s efforts led her to receive a Pegasus Environmental Leadership Award and a 2018 Girl Scouts of Orange County Take Action Award. Congratulations, Anchal!

NOMINATE A GIRL SCOUT - Do you know a Girl Scout Cadette, Senior, and/or Ambassador troop/group/individual who has completed a Take Action project that demonstrates lasting impact to the community outside of Girl Scouting who you would like to nominate for a 2019 GSOC Take Action Award? Submit a Girl Award nomination by March 12.

“Each year, GSOC recognizes Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors at the GSOC Recognition Event. See the Overview of Girl Awards. The Outstanding Senior Girl Scout Recognition, Juliette Low Spirit of Girl Scouting Award, and Take Action Awards are presented as a surprise at the annual Recognition Event. Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors can be nominated by their Advisor, Service Unit Manager, or other Girl Scout adult volunteer OR by a sister Girl Scout Ambassador. In addition, eligible girls will be recognized as Graduating Seniors, Ten Year Award recipients, Gold Award recipients, and Bridge to Adult recipients; please submit the Girl Awards Request Form by March 12 to submit names and details for eligible Girl Scouts.
