As you can see, we need 2 volunteers to step up to help lead the Houston Chapter

of ASA. Without a full board, the functionality of ASA could be severely

impacted.

If you are interested in serving, contact Dan Tidwell or any of the

Board Members above.

JANUARY MEETING

This is from only 23 out of 205 invitations. We need more input! It’s not too late for you to respond if you have not. Please check your prior emails (January 4 and January 11) for survey or complete survey hard copy in January Shop Talk or at Chapter Meeting.

Our January speaker, Richard Flint, was excellent! See page 4 for a summary of Richard’s presentation taken from the workbook that accompanies the full presentation. Again, thanks to Kathryn and Sybren van der Pol for making it possible for having Richard with us.

DINNER PRICE INCREASE

Please note that the dinner prices have increased to $20 for members and $25 for non-members and guests. But the increase does not mean the sponsor contribution and raffle ticket sales are not a vital part of making the ASA dinners possible...they are! Please be sure to thank our sponsors and bring raffle items for giveaways. And, buy those raffle tickets!

Making 2019 the “Year of the New Member!” you are encouraged to bring another shop owner or representative to a meeting and introducing them to ASA Houston. By introducing a fellow shop-owner that does not know about ASA, you can help us obtain a new member and help your friend save money through their participation with ASA Houston. Associate members, can help as well by inviting the shops you call-on to join you at a meeting.

MEMBER SURVEY

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

Some early results from respondents of the survey indicate...

Shop Talk Distribution: 55% want full version of Shop Talk emailed to them while 41% like the way it is done now through MailChimp. Only 14% desired a printed copy via U.S. Mail and 14% would like to have it at meetings. This indicated we may want to reduce the number of copies printed and save on printing and postage!

Meeting Notice: An overwhelming 91% liked notice of meeting via MailChimp as currently done while only 9% preferred a phone call and 23% would like a text message. 14% like my personal emails and 0% preferred fax notice. This indicates we may want to limit phone calls to only those that request it and rely on email notices. That places a greater responsibility on membership to actually respond as preferred in next question.

Meeting RSVP: 86% preferred to respond via email from the MailChimp reminder; 27% by direct email and 23% by text message reply. There was minority interest in a pre-paid registration site.

MEETING SPONSORSHIP

So far, here is a list of sponsors for 2019.

“EXPAND THE POSSIBILITIES”

M move, but with lesser clarity I invest in sameness, not growth S sense of disappointed is created S see a smaller picture of the future

EXPANSION OF THOUGHT

Most possibilities are a moment of thought Gcreated by you or the offering of another.

Too many times we are too Gbusy being busy to slow down, look at the possibility, and give it the attention it needs to turn into an opportunity.

O options F finding a connection to a need F foundation of thought to expand on E energy R reason to look deeper into what is involved S source to connect to a stated need

WHEN YOU MISS A POSSIBILITY, YOU:

Possibilities create the excitement of the Gadventure, while opportunities create the creative spirit to bring it to life.

6 STEPS TO EXPAND A POSSIBILITYStep 1: Examine With Honesty Where You Are As a Company or Individual and Where You Want To Go.

Possibilities don't hang Garound. They present themselves, but if not given attention, they go away. Too many times the result is the after thought, "I should have slowed down and really looked at that possibility."

Detour: The wrong direction a choice can make if we don't fully examine and understand the possibility that is in front of us.

Possibilities are the front door to discovering the opportunities that keep

your company moving forward!

We live in a world of possibilities, but if we don’t take the time to explore the opportunity the possibility might be offering us, we can

miss the path to improvement !

FROM RICHARD’S DICTIONARY

Possibility: An idea that is presented that may or may not fit the direction you need at that moment.

A POSSIBILITY OFFERS:

Path: The direction a decision creates for you to follow.

Opportunity: The result of finding the pathway forward the possibility has brought to you.

ASA HOUSTON HAPPENINGSContinued from page 3

Continued from page 4THANKS FROM HPD

The HPD Blue Santa Program sent us thanks for our participation in their program at our Christmas Gathering. Thanks to all that brought toys to contribute.

The February meeting was pre-maturely announced to be at the BG offices. Please note that this is NOT correct and the meeting will be at our usual location, Fratelli’s Restaurant. I hope to see you there on February 12!

Step 3: Purpose For Decision Must Be Clear.

Step 2: X-ray Question Must Be Asked.

Step 5: Never Allow The Excitement Of The Possibility To Be The Reason You Make The Decision.

EXPANDING A POSSIBILITY THOUGHTYour future is designed by your behavior. When you are trapped in "what has worked," you will notice possibilities, but not pause and research what they can bring to your company. Possibilities are the front door to discovering the opportunities that keep you moving forward.

Step 6: Don't Procrastinate With What You Know Needs To Be Done!

Step 4: Always Be Looking For The Next Pathway To Improvement.
