FEBRUARY 2019 “HEART MONTH” BUCKEYE BREEZE Welcome to WINTER my Sisters! It’s tempting, I know, to settle in at home, have a cup of hot cocoa and avoid the cold world outside; but I’m urging you to get up and do more! In our Eagle world, February is often designated as Heart Month and many Aeries and Auxiliaries will be promoting Heart Fund charity functions. If you are, I applaud you all, but if not, why not take advantage of this chilly wintry month to promote a charity in some way? How about a chili cook-off, a Souper Bowl competition, or maybe a contest to collect hats and gloves for the homeless in your area? Having a dance for Valentines Day? A 50/50 is an easy fund raiser at the dance and requires no preparation other than a roll of tickets and a few smiling faces willing to help. Again, let’s do more! Fundraising is at the very heart of our Fraternity. It’s why we were founded and why we exist today and the most important reason for us to grow our membership into the future. Our work is so important that we cannot slow down or take a break. People need us and depend on our good works, we must do more. This quote was on the Grand Aerie’s Facebook page last month and I thought it said so much about whom we are and what our potential is to become people who lift and give back. “At the end of the day, it's not about what you have or even what you've accomplished. It's about what you've done with those accomplishments. It’s about who you've lifted up, who you've made better. It’s about what you've given back." - Denzel Washington So, this month, please be careful in your travels, take care of your health and remember to do more! Welcome to WINTER my Sisters!

Hi Ladies, This is Linda your State Ritual Chairman, and I’m just reminding you to get your Competition applications to me. I know they are not due until May 1st, but I would like to get things on the ball. I am working on the One-Woman books and will have them done soon.

Let’s make this year a banner year for competition!!!!! I will have the date and whereabouts of the JUDGES school later this month, so watch for your next Breeze. Thanks again, Linda Nobile, State Ritual Chairman

Hello My Sisters: I am coming to you once again to encourage your donations to our Ohio Eagles State Rec Park. It was so sad that nothing has been sent in and the Rec Park wasn't even listed in our Breeze in January. Last year we made great progress with the amount owed on the park and some needed improvements. The end of last season our front gate quit working; this problem certainly needs our attention. Also, I am reminding you again that if any Auxiliary in the Dayton area would like to have a fund raiser for the Rec Park, I will come and join you and help you in any way I can. My phone number is (937) 416-8738. Thanking you, in advance, Connie Curry, Auxiliary Ohio State Rec Park Chairman

SINCERE THANKS! I would like to thank everyone for the cards I received while having surgery in Texas. It went well so I went down and had the rest done. Thanks & Love, Betty Sharp Ohio State School for the Blind State Chairman

INFORMATION ON GRANTS FOR STATE CONVENTION

If you or your Auxiliary is interested in requesting a grant from the State Aerie this fraternal year to be presented at our 2019 State Convention, ALL requests MUST be submitted to PSP Harriet Luke by April 5, 2019. The State Grant Request Form is included in this Breeze. ALL required paperwork must be submitted/completed or the request will not be considered. This includes: a. COMPLETED State Grant Request Form. b. A brief resume of the project for which the grant is requested, including a statement that the grant funds will only be used for research, education or equipment. c. A copy of the IRS letter of determination. d. No request can be requested for more than $10,000. We recommend grants be requested for $5,000 or less so more grants can be approved within our budget. COMPLETED packages are to be sent to PSP Harriet Luke, 9788 N. Marks Road, Columbia Station, OH 44028, NOT to State Aerie Secretary Bill Isaacs. After Harriet’s review, she will forward to State Secretary Debbie Sharp for final review and recommendation to State Madam President Sharon Horn. Once final determination is made, the approved requests will then be presented to the Ohio State Aerie Charity Board on May 4, 2019, for final approval/disapproval. All applicants will be informed of the final decision of their request. Questions can be referred to PSP Harriet Luke at 440-856-6580 or [email protected].

Information on the Joint Testimonial for State Presidents Bill Rucker and Sharon Horn is included in this Breeze.

DATE: May 4, 2019.

Also included in this Breeze are the forms for placing an ad and/or patron ads

in the Souvenir Program Book for the 2019 State Convention. In recent years, participation has been down in placing ads. We ask that all

Auxiliaries and Districts consider taking an ad in the book. All ads purchased help off-set the cost to the State Aerie and State Auxiliary in printing the books for you. Please note the deadline for placing an ad is

April 10, 2019. Thank you!

ATTN: ALL LOCAL AUXILIARY SECRETARIES: During the month of February you will be receiving TWO very important documents in the mail from State Secretary Debbie Sharp that need your Auxiliary’s immediate attention: 1. Information packet on the 2019 State Convention. 2. A survey regarding which charities/projects the Ohio State Auxiliary will continue to support. Both of these documents will be included in the SAME ENVELOPE to save postage. PLEASE be sure to share all of this information with your Auxiliary Sisters. Your attendance at State Convention and your input on our charities/projects is very important to the Ohio State Auxiliary. Thank you, in advance, for your support!!
