President’s Message

Dear RWOP Members, February is upon us. We look forward to Valentine's Day and President's Day this month. Our February luncheon is scheduled on Valentine's Day; Wednesday, February 14, so you may want to bring your sweet heart! Join us for lunch, meet like-minded people and hear from our interesting guest speaker. This month's keynote speaker is Jonathan Lines, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party. I know we all look forward to hearing the latest information about our Party from our chairman. Make your reservations. Don't miss out! Caring for America this month is Honor Flight Arizona! We have supported this organization for several years. It's wonderful to hear stories from our veterans who have travelled to Washington DC visiting the WWII and Korean War memorials. It's even better knowing our donations help make it possible. 2018, a mid-term election year, promises to be very busy for RWOP! We are making plans for meetings, forums and events to spotlight our Republican Candidates. Our members need to hear from the candidates, learn more about them and cast their votes for the Republican candidate of their choice. Stay tuned as more candidates declare their intention to run. The race has just begun! In our January newsletter, and at our first luncheon meeting of the year, I stated my 2018 goals for RWOP. UNITY! We must all work together, each in our own way, to elect Republicans to office. You've all seen the Liberal demonstrators at our beautiful Courthouse. The Democrats know that Yavapai County is predominately conservative Republican which makes us a target! Working together toward our common goal is the way to keep Yavapai County Red! There are a large number of voters registered as Independent. Let's reach out to these Independents and invite them to an RWOP luncheon. We allow non-members to attend up to 3 luncheons per year. We certainly hope hearing our speakers, talking with our luncheon attendees and seeing how unified we are in our beliefs will convince them to change party affiliation, join RWOP and most importantly VOTE REPUBLICAN! Ask yourself, what can I do to help unify the Republican Party? It starts with each and every one of us! This is my personal challenge to each of you. Thank you and Blessings to you all, Pat Lorenzen 2018 President

Caring For America

At our February 14 luncheon meeting, Caring for America is proud to once again spotlight

HONOR FLIGHT AZ as our featured charity. The Honor Flight network is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization created solely

to honor America's World War II and Korean War veterans. Honor Flight does so by bringing these heroes, at no cost to them, to

Washington DC to visit their special war memorials.

Since its inception in 2008, Honor Flight Arizona has funded travel to our nation's capital for over 2,000 veterans. The cost per person

for this trip is $900. Over the last 2 years, our Club alone has raised over $7,600, enabling 8 veterans to have this once-in-a-

lifetime experience.

Time is growing short for those who remain on the wait list, and we want to help as many of these heroes as possible. When you come

to the February luncheon, think of a veteran you know, or have known... and donate from your heart. If you wish to write a check,

make it out to "Honor Flight Arizona".

Remember: "A veteran is someone who at some point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to the 'United States of

America' for any amount up to and including their life." Please visit the CFA table at February's luncheon if you have any questions about Honor Flight Arizona, or contact them directly (see

information below). Thank you!

Americanism – Linda Nichols AMERICANISM - by Linda Nichols (Temporarily stepping in for Pam Jones, Americanism

Chair.)

We all know a great man in history with a strong religious grounding, a solid moral character, and a compelling ability to communicate. In fact, you might know him as the "Great Communicator" or even the "Great Storyteller". He was an excellent orator, natural storyteller often times using humor to elicit goodwill and deflect criticism. He spoke to values of patriotism, freedom, and to God's authority! He was the fortieth President of the United States. Of course you know by now, that I am referring to our much loved president, Ronald Reagan. In January, I was so fortunate to take a trip to the Ronald Reagan Library. What an amazing experience it was to see all the artifacts, videos, writings and historical pictures that surrounded this incredible man's life. And, rooted in his success, you could see the role of his most loving wife, Nancy. Her book entitled, I Love You, Ronnie, was a testament to a storybook romance and their mutually devoted marriage of 52 years. I know many of you have made this wonderful trip to the Reagan Library, but if you have not I urge you to visit as you will be giving yourself a precious gift. It is a treasure trove of historical information including the man behind the office. I will leave you with one of hundreds of poignant quotes from President Reagan that is still pertinent today... "Government's only reason for existing is to serve the people. If we are to serve their needs, we must cast politics aside. We must demonstrate that government deserves the public's trust." ~ Ronald Reagan, January 9, 1974~

Legislature – Sherrie Hanna 1st VP/Progrms

Happy New Year. Wow, I can't believe this is 2018 already and time to start another

legislative session at the Capitol. Since this is an election year with statewide offices up,

our session should be relatively short and hopefully sweet.

Due to changes in senate members, I have now been appointed to the Senate

Appropriations; JLBC; and JCCR committees. We will start working on the legislative

budget with our members now that the Governor's Budget has been released. One of our

biggest financial goals this year is to restore a large sum to the K-12 Education system and

providing additional compensation to our hard working teachers. I am also pleased to see

the Governor wanting to invest monies to help reduce our opioid crisis, additional troopers

for the Border Strike Force, highways maintenance funding and a $15.8 million adoption

subsidy for more than 33,000 children who need permanent homes.

As in past years, I will be running 15 to 20 bills primarily focusing on economic

development, job creation and reducing fraud in our government systems. Three of the bills will be directly beneficial to

our local communities which address additional state funding to Prescott for its PSPRS debt related to our fallen Hot

Shots; cost savings and safety issues for Yavapai County zoning violation notice serving; and cleaning up a statute to

assist our local fire districts.

I will miss you all these next few lunch meetings but looking forward to working with all of you this spring and summer to

keep Yavapai County and Arizona a nice bright shade of RED.

Warmest,

Senator Karen Fann LD1
