“Meta-Major”

Also referred to as “career clus-ters” or “communities of inter-est,” meta-majors are broad pro-gram streams such as allied health or business. They are a key component of Guided Path-ways reforms. Meta-majors are a viable way for a student to enter a general major or area of inter-est and complete coursework in this interest area before deciding on a more specific major or pro-

gram of study. (Waugh, Alexandra. 2016.“Meta-Majors: An Essential First Step on the Path to College Completion.” Jobs for the Fu-

ture.)

Here at MCC, each School is a meta-major.
