I was thinking about the countdown to quilt show and wishing that February wasn't the shortest month of
the year. That did get me thinking why is it? I did a little internet digging and found a summary of the
history of the calendar going back to the Romans and a lunar based system where they didn't really keep
track of time during winter because it wasn't growing or harvest season (as if it wasn't important
enough). Through the extremely early years the calendar had quite a few revisions until Julius Caesar
changed the calendar to a solar based system similar to the Egyptians. The calendar has remained mostly
the same as Caesar created thus the Julian calendar ~ which doesn't help that we still only have 28 days this
February to get our quilt show entries ready!!
I always think about the quilt show as a celebration we've made it to another spring season. Even though
this year the show is a bit earlier than usual I believe the same feeling will be in the air. The colorful quilts
hanging in the gym and buzz of activity on set up day and all weekend long takes people out from their
winter hibernation and gets the creative juices flowing. All the work that goes into this nearly week-long
production happens with all the volunteer hours put in by guild members and family helpers. The funds
raised at the quilt show allow the guild to offer great monthly programs, charitable donations and sponsor
local scholarships to name a few things. Don't forget to sign up for a volunteer position to help out the
weekend of the show it takes all the help we can get.
I found these additional February facts that I thought were quirky and wanted to pass along~
• In common years, February can pass without a single full moon. The next time this will happen is in
2018.
• Once every six years, February is the only month that has four, full seven-day weeks.
• February starts on the same day of the week as March and November in common years, and on the
same day of the week as August on leap years.
• February ends on the same day of the week as October every year.
• In leap years, it is the only month that begins and ends on the same weekday.

WHEELCHAIR QUILTS FOR VETS
I still haven't heard from the VA when they are having the opening. So I decided to take some of the quilts
and hand them out anyway. I kept enough for the new house. It was a pleasure and I heard alot of
stories. I had one left and saw this Veteran by x-ray, he said he didn't deserve one because he broke his
arm and leg falling off the ladder doing Christmas lights. After a short talk he did accept it.
The quilts brought tears, laughter, and gratitude that they are remembered.
Thanks to all of you and I will still be collecting them.
