SPRING-FORD AREA HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS A SNEAK-PEEK OF THE SPRING MUSICAL “FOOTLOOSE”Spring-Ford Area High School students took the spotlight at the February 23, 2015 board meeting as they showcased a piece from the upcoming spring musical “Footloose.”

Set in rural-America, “Footloose” tells the story of Ren and his mother, who move from Chicago to a small farming town. Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school, what he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid.

To the rockin’ music of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score and augmented with new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind. Stage adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford. Music by Tom Snow, lyrics by Dean Pitchford, additional music by Eric Carmen, Kenny Loggins, Sammy Hagar and Jim Steinman.

Community members are encouraged to see the full show on March 13 and 14, 2015 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Reserve your tickets today by emailing [email protected].

ROYERSRFORD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS AFTER SCHOOL CLUB “SIP” The February 23, 2015 school board meeting had more people saying “Danke!” than usual, as Royersford Elementary School students and parents gave a presentation about the STEM in Practice (SIP) after school club. SIP introduces Royersford students to a foreign language, technology and computer coding in a fun, lighthearted manor.

During the presentations, select students held a conversation in German, solved an advanced math problem and described the inner workings of a combustion engine. Many members of the after school club shared what they enjoy most about SIP, such as spending time with friends and learning more about how machines work.

SIP volunteers Mike Spletzer, Alex Tomarelli and Haley Spletzer enjoy taking classroom lessons focusing on STEM a step further in the fun after school club.
