SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES COMING SOON for LENT 2019

Small Chris an Communi es offer Sts. Peter and Paul parishioners the opportunity to meet weekly in the homes of fellow parishioners—in groups of about ten people—under the guidance of a group facilitator to pray, build friendships, study, and share our faith. Groups will meet for 6 weeks, beginning during the week of Ash Wednesday, and will conclude during the week prior to Palm Sunday. For study and discussion, these materials will be provided at no cost: Upcoming Sunday readings u lizing FORMED Opening the Word - Lent Year C Dr. Sri’s new book Into His Likeness – Be Transformed as a Disciple of Christ

Find the registra on form on our website or email SCCommuni [email protected] and come to the Donut Sunday Social this Sunday, February 10th, to learn more about how you and your family can be involved!

We will be meeting on Wednesday, February 13th, at 10:00am in the St. Paul Center to make prayer shawls for our parishioners who are sick or going through difficult times. If you know someone who would like a prayer shawl to keep them warm, especially in this cold weather, we would be happy to wrap one up for them. For more information, call Paulette at 630-718-2127.

‘For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authori es, against the powers of

this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.’

~Ephesians 6:12 We Need Your Help! Please prayer fully consider joining our Saints Peter and Paul volunteers to offer an hour of prayerful witness outside of Planned Parenthood on Friday, February 15th. We have volunteers in one-hour shifts from 7am-2pm every third Friday. Your prayers on the side-walk outside this abortion clinic help support the efforts of pro-life sidewalk counselors to offer abortion-bound moth-ers the help they need to choose life. Your prayers help open those women’s hearts to life. They may even help con-vert those working in the abortion clinic. Pray in whatever fashion suits you—Scripture reading, the Rosary, interior prayer, hymns, etc., but pray quietly, to be heard by God and His angels, not passersby. Offer prayers for the abortion-bound women in the clinic. Pray for their babies. Pray for the clinic staff to be converted. Pray for any pro-life counselors who are there. If you see a specific woman entering the clinic, pray for her and whoever has brought her to the clinic that day. Please call Jane Fonner at 630-851-8433 or email her at [email protected] for more information, or to let her know you are available this month. We can all call upon God to grant us power over the evil of abortion.

Brains vs. Brawn

A long time tradition during Catholic Schools Week at Saints Peter and Paul School is the Brain vs. Brawn contest for Jr. High students. The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students compete each year to be the champions of this lively contest. The morning starts out with teams from each grade working collaboratively on academic exams in areas such as math, language arts, and Spanish. Later in the day the grades battle in athletic endeav-ors such as 3-point contest, relay races, and tug-of-war. The SSPP Class of 2019 came out the victors! The 8th graders rule!

“Jesus Christ is the reason for this school, the unseen but ever-present teacher in all its classes, the model of its

faculty, and the inspiration for its students."

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION COMMISSION One of the roles of the Religious Education Commission is to assist in the growth and maintenance of a high-quality and effective religious education program. At the very heart of any religious education program are the families it serves. To that end, the Religious Education commission would like offer an opportunity for feedback at our next regularly scheduled meeting this Tuesday, February 12th, starting at 6:00PM in Room L20 in the Ministry Center. We are looking for your thoughts and suggestions about the program and the impact on your families.

PLEASE VOLUNTEER! This is a much-loved summer activity for our parish children, but we can’t have it without adult volunteers to make it possible. Check out the pics below to see how we learn...VBS style!

This year’s Vacation Bible School is scheduled to take place Monday-Friday, June 10th to the 14th, from 9:00-11:45am. Before registration can begin, we need to be assured of sufficient adult volunteers to help run the program. Adult volunteers are needed for the following areas:

Wild Bible Adventures (2 needed) – Help children experience the day’s Bible story through interactive activities.

Stampede Sports (1 -2 needed) – Lead crews in awesome games that help bring home the day’s Bible point.

Imagination Station (2 needed) – Help kids connect with Scripture using fun experiments and crafts. VBS Spotlight (2 needed) – Prepare a daily slideshow of the day’s events by taking photos and using them in a custom presentation.

Skits Coordinator (2 needed) – Work together to present each days’ skit, usually 2-3 minutes long.

All materials are provided we just need you! Please contact Theresa Pratt at 630-718-2133 or [email protected] for more info or if you’d like to volunteer this summer.

Johnnette Benkovic shares her conversion back to Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church and the strug-gles that came when her husband didn't share her faith. She explains how the Lord blessed her in un-expected ways and, through the promptings of His Holy Spirit, showed her how she could better love her spouse through it all.

Just what I needed to hear! It’s what I have been looking for to help me in my marriage and my spir-itual journey. Janie - Kyle, TX

This is the best CD I’ve heard on marriage. Johnette's honesty and vibrant faith touch us to the core. It is such an inspiration for married couples to grow stronger in the Lord. Fabienne - Wilbraham, MA

I felt like it was talking to me and about our married life. I will try to be more attentive to my husband and show him that I care, and he is not second best. Charlotte - Napoleon, ND

Holy Matrimony Policy of Saints Peter and Paul

Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church rejoices with you as you prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Because of the large number of weddings at Saints Peter & Paul and, in order to accommodate our parishioners, there are some guidelines which must be followed as you prepare for your wedding. The parish will set a date when contacted by only the bride or groom themselves. We are not able to set a wedding date with parents, grandparents,

relatives or friends unless the bride and groom are both serving in the military service abroad. All arrangements are also made only with the bride and groom.

Either the bride or groom themselves, or either set of parents, must be registered parishioners for a minimum of three months before the parish will check the calendar for a wedding date. The parish will also permit any individual who has been confirmed in the parish or graduated from our parish school or graduated from North Central College to be married at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church following all other requirements and given the permission of their proper pastor.

The Diocese of Joliet requires a minimum preparation period of 6 months. This means that your wedding date cannot be sooner than six months

from the time that the parish confirms your date with you. (For example, if your date is booked on February 1st, the earliest that you can get married is August 1st.) To clarify, if you are newly registered here, there will be a 9 month period before your wedding can take place.

Stipends for weddings are as follows:

Registered active parishioners of one year or longer – $700.00 Inactive parishioners (non-contributing at the time the wedding is booked) – $1,000.00 New parishioners (registered less than one year at the time the wedding is booked) – $1,000.00

Note: Fees for parish stipend, parish organist and cantors are included in the above offering amounts; however fees for brass and violins are not included. For those couples who are not registered parishioners but whose parents are, the above guidelines apply to the relevant registered parishioners. The stipend check should be made out Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, listing the wedding date and time on the memo line. Please insure that your check is submitted to the parish office no later than one month after booking your wedding. (Wedding stipends will be refunded for any cancellation if the parish is notified no later than one month prior to your originally scheduled wedding date.) Couples must be engaged prior to setting a wedding date. A date will not be scheduled if Holy Matrimony is only a possibility. Participation in a Pre-Cana workshop and two dates of “God’s Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage” is required for those preparing for Holy Matrimony

at Saints Peter & Paul. Classes are offered quarterly at Saints Peter & Paul. Please check the parish website for a list of upcoming sessions: http://www.sspeterandpaul.net/sacraments/wedding-planning). There is no fee for your participation at our Parish if you are being married here; however if your Holy Matrimony is at another Parish, the fee for these class is $125.00.

Participation in one instructional class on Natural Family Planning is required for those preparing for Holy Matrimony at Saints Peter & Paul. Classes are offered online for a fee of $49. Please login at https://catholicmarriageprepclass.digitalchalk.com/dc/guest/login. Make sure to obtain a certificate verifying your participation and submit to the parish office so that it may be included in your marriage file.

Please be aware, that when a Catholic is marrying a non-Catholic, your Sacrament of Holy Matrimony will be celebrated with a ceremony that does not include the reception of Holy Communion. In these cases, one of our deacons may be assigned to prepare you for and to celebrate your Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.

The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony may not be scheduled if either party has been previously married without first speaking to one of the priests. The secretary will ask this question when taking the initial information.

The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony is scheduled here on Fridays at 4:00 PM and on Saturdays at noon and 2:30 PM. Rehearsals for Friday Holy Matrimony are at 6:00 PM on the Thursday before; rehearsals for Saturday noon Holy Matrimony are at 6:00 PM on the Friday before; and rehearsals for Saturday 2:30 PM Holy Matrimony are at 7:00 PM on the Friday before. Holy Matrimony and rehearsal times are not negotiable. Due to the large number of Masses (11 Masses) on Sundays, the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony is not celebrated on Sundays.

To schedule a wedding date, call the Parish office during regular office hours, 630-355-1081 or stop by the Parish Office during regular office hours.

NEWS FROM THE KNIGHTS

Saint Vincent de Paul

In the Gospel today, the disciples decide to leave every-thing to follow Jesus. We are also called to follow Jesus, who tells us that “whatever you do to the least of mine, you do for me.”

Your gift to the poor can bring the love and peace

of Jesus to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread.

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of Saint

Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who

are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and its patron, Saint

Vincent de Paul. Would you like to learn more or are you in need of assistance? If so, call: 630-718-2127.

Transitional Housing Ministry

The Transitional Housing Ministry currently supports four homeless families including four single adult women and a total of nine children. Your donations in the pink envelopes continue to support the efforts of the mentors to provide food and living accommodations, and could not be more appreciated. We also thank you for your many thoughts and prayers in support of our “clients.”

For more information on the

Transitional Housing Ministry, please contact Tom Dorn at 630-270-7303.

Help Saints Peter and Paul raise money by turning in your box tops and Campbell’s Soup labels. There is a box at the entrance of the Church and by the Holy Family Chapel in the Ministry Center. Thank you for helping to support our school!

*Names that are bolded are newly added this week*

We wish to offer our sympathy and a promise of our prayers to family and friends on the deaths of:

Don Cassa, Lalitha Devadas

In your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters. In this life you embraced them with your tender love; deliver them now from every evil and bid them eternal rest. The old order has passed away: welcome them into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain, but fullness of peace and joy with your Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen

Pray With Us

St. Francis Chapel of Eucharistic Adoration Flame of Faith Candles

Six candles burn perpetually around the Blessed Sacrament in our St. Francis Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. The burning candles serve as a constant prayer before the Lord, present in the Blessed Sacrament. Envelopes for you to have your intention remembered with one of these candles and prayed for ONE WEEK (Sunday to Sunday) are available in the Adoration Chapel. The intentions will be published in the bulletin.

Flame of Faith Intentions for This Week The seven-day Devotional Candles at the altar of our Lord in the Saint Francis Adoration Chapel are being offered for: 1. A job for Kevin F. Demeria. 2. For the healing of Robert Walsh. 3. For the repose of the soul of Sharon Salerno. 4. For the health of Elizabeth and Fiona. 5. For love and faith in our Lord and health, wealth, and

unity of the Gomez family. 6. For the protection of the unborn.

Sunday 10am Thursday 2am Sunday 5pm Thursday 4am Monday 1am Friday 12am Thursday 1am

Please consider visiting with our Lord at these times. Call Barb at 630-885-1726 or [email protected].

COME AND ADORE HIM IN THE MOST HOLY SACRAMENT...

Visit our Saint Francis Adoration Chapel - Open 24/7

Sit quietly and just “be” in the presence of God. Think of a visit to the Blessed Sacrament as coming to see your best friend. Instead of talking to the Lord, try listening to what He wants to tell you.

EVENING PRAYER AND BENEDICTION

Please join us for Evening Prayer (Vespers) and Benediction, held every Thursday at 6:00pm in the St. Francis Adoration Chapel.

Rosary

Come pray with us on Tuesday evenings

in the Church beginning at 7:30pm.

With our Rosaries, we will ask Our Lady to intercede for our Holy Father’s special intention of the month, as well as for our own intentions, and for world peace without the threat of terrorism. If there is a special intention that you would like to have remembered during the weekly Rosary, please email [email protected] or come to the Tuesday Rosary to add your intention.

Legion of Mary

Become acquainted with the Legion of Mary by joining us on Tuesday eve-nings at 6:00pm in Room 227 in the Ministry Center in the spirit of faith

and in union with our Blessed Virgin Mary. The Legion of Mary is the largest lay apostolic associa-tion of Catholics worldwide who serve the Church by visiting the sick and homebound and by performing many works of promoting our Catholic faith. We pray to Jesus through Mary. Contact Judy Vissepo at 630-245-3171 or Paulette Shea at 630-718-2127 with any questions.
