2-Wire, Loop Powered SSXTheSSXisa2-wireisolator,drawingpowerfromtheoutputsideoftheloop.Typically,thisisfromasecondaryreceivingdevicesuchasaDCSorPLC.
Isolation for Safety Systems UsetheSSXtoisolateyourSISfromyourbasicprocesscontrolsystem.WhilepowerfortheSSXisderivedfromtheoutputsideoftheloop,disconnectionorlossofpowerwillnotaffecttheinputloop’ssignalintegrity.Thisallowsmaintenancetobeperformedonthenon-criticalsideoftheloop(SeeFigure2).
Isolate and Pass Critical HART Data WhenHARTdataisrequiredfordiagnostics,maintenanceorcalibrationtheSSXisabletoisolateandpassHARTdatafromthetransmittertothehostsystem(SeeFigure3).
Stop Ground Loop Noise and Convert Signals Differenceinpotentialbetweenagroundedtransmitterandagroundedreceivingdevicemayresultinunpredictablegroundloopproblemsthatcanleadtosignaldrift.TheSSXbreaksthegalvanicpathbetweenthefieldinstrumentandreceivingdeviceandevenconvertssignalswhenrequired(SeeFigure4).
Solve “Bucking” Power Supplies and Filter HART Whentwodevices(suchasa4-wireHARTtransmitterandaDCS)aretryingtosourcepowertothesameloop,theresultisanon-functioningloop.Whenneitherofthedevicescanbeeliminated,thesolutionisanSSX.Itcanoperatewithpoweredinputsfrombothsides,thusrestoringnormaloperationstotheloopwhilealsopassinganyHARTsignals.SometimesolderDCSandPLCinputcardshavetroublewithHARTsignals.WhenthisproblemarisesyoucanordertheSSXwithoptioncode-0HARTandtheSSXwillfiltertheHARTsignal(SeeFigure5).

HART Splitter: “Sharing” or “Splitting” Process Signals TheSSTSplittertakestheinputfromoneofyourprocesssignalsandcreatestwoidentical,completelyisolatedoutputstotwoseparatemonitoringorcontroldevices.Additionally,theSSTfunctionsasaHARTsplitterthatpassesvaluableHARTdatatooneorbothoftheSST’sindependentoutputs.ThisisespeciallyimportantwhenassetmanagementsystemsneedtomaintainadigitalHARTconnectionwithcriticalvalvesorinstrumentsfordiagnosticmonitoringorcalibrationrecordkeeping.ThisalsomakesitveryconvenientwhenusingHARThandhelds,modemsorprogrammingdevicestoconfigureremotefieldtransmittersfromcontrolrooms(SeeFigure6).
Power a 2-Wire Transmitter Withtheincluded-TXoption,theSSTprovides24Vpowertoa2-wire,output-looppoweredinstrument.Thiseliminatestheneedforanadditionalpowersupply(SeeFigure7).
