HaitiThe world was shocked as a
major earthquake hit the tiny
island nation of Haiti (shared
with the Dominican Republic).
The poorest country in our
hemisphere is now on the
world scene, with aid rushing
in from all parts. The question
Ive asked is, Where was the
help before when they were
still so poor? It was in serious
trouble for decades with many
children living in orphanages.
Haiti has been overlooked by
most and perhaps this will be a
renewed call to compassion in
our time. As a church we are
joining with a missionary
couple working with orphans
in-country. My hope is that
this will become a mission field
that engages our interest and
intercession, just as some of
the places have where our
other missionaries work.
MISSIONARY GIVING
Besides continuing with our
current missionaries, the
FCC budget will include
regular giving to Haiti. The
members voted to approve
an increase in mission giving
so that 5% of our church
budget is directed to
ministries outside the

USA. In addition, our annual
Pentecost Offering is donated
to some particular missions
project. I would recommend
that we focus on Haiti relief
for this offering coming in
May. In the meantime, if you
would like to give even more
toward Haiti relief, feel free to
do so through FCC. Our
treasurer will forward those
gifts to our contact in Haiti
(and you wont end up on
some large organizations
fund-raising mailing list).

Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the Lord is onme, because he has anointed me to preach goodnews to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim
freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight forthe blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim
the year of the Lord's favor."(NIV)
Jesus came in the power of the Spiritpreaching, healing, saving, and deliveringpeople from spiritual bondage. He had no
building, no padded pews, no air conditioning,no video projectors, no electric guitars ororgans, in fact none of our current technology.Yet he left behind a movement that swept theface of the earth.
I want to be part of a movement for God. Idont want to settle for comfort when we arecalled to Spirit-empowered ministry. Lets not
exchange respectability for effectiveness inhelping people. And lets not assume facilities, different people, or better technology willmake us a better home church. That is amatter of submitting our hearts to God.
