KERYGMA PART II: CAPTURED What went wrong? We called the first part of the Kerygma, "Created out of Love." If that is true, we might ask ourselves what in the world went wrong. Why don't I experience that truth at all times? We will call this the bad news. In a word, the enemy has captured us. I don't think we get the bad news right. We have to understand how bad the bad news is if we are going to see the good news as more than news. The bad news is horrific. It is so bad it should leave us despairing. We need to understand the enemy to understand the bad news. He is an angelic being who, in the beginning, was created good. Everything God creates is good. It was through the devil's envy of us that he fell from grace (see Wisdom 2:24). He is envious not of God but us. God's plan was always to offer to us divinization (big word alert - it means God offers us a participation in His Divine Life). This gift of God to us is so scandalous to purely spiritual, intelligent beings that the devil and the other evil spirits who rebelled go to war against the creature God loves the most - us. The devil's strategy is simple. It is to lie. He is a liar from the beginning. He lies explicitly about the identity of God. Did God say you couldn't eat of any of the trees in the Garden? We see plainly that this is not what God said. We believe the lie, which is why the devil continues to use it. It goes like this: "God doesn't love you. God is not good. You can't trust God. He doesn't want what is best for you." Every time we fall to this temptation, we too rebel against God. Genesis chapter three didn't happen a long time ago. It is the story of our everyday life. Jesus tells us the evil one's goal for our life: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;" and Jesus responds with His goal: "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." The devil hates us with a fiery passion, and his goal is to destroy our eternal future by getting us to sin mortally (rebel against God) and to live in that sin. We must not trifle with the devil. Eve entered into dialogue with him in the Garden. We must reject the temptation and turn away from the liar and toward God. We have another enemy which we will discuss next time as we continue our discussion of Part II of the Kerygma. In God's Love, Fr. Browning FATHER BROWNING... THOUGHTS, SCRIPTURE, AND MORE. • KERYGMA PART II: CAPTURED What went wrong? We called the first part of the Kerygma, "Created out of Love." If that is true, we might ask ourselves what in the world went wrong. Why don't I experience

that truth at all times? We will call this the bad news. In a word, the enemy has captured us. I don't think we get the bad news right. We have to understand how bad the bad news is if we are going to see the good news as more than news. The bad news is horrific. It is so bad it should leave us despairing.

We need to understand the enemy to understand the bad news. He is an angelic being who, in the beginning, was created good. Everything God

creates is good.

He doesn't want what is best for you." Every time we fall to this temptation, we too

rebel against God.

Deacon Greg Stevens A friend of Jesus, Greg Stevens, passed

into His loving arms on October 4,

2019. Greg was a faithful Permanent

Deacon of the Roman Catholic Church

since his ordination on April 30, 1994. The

son of Henry and Dorothea Stevens, he

was born June 7, 1944. He was a loving

    father of Jennifer (Mel) Stevens-Senior,

Kim Stevens, Connie (John) Wicker, and

Traci (Ed) Stark. He was also the beloved

grandfather of Cassandra, Alec, Breanne, Samantha, William

Crystal, Johnnie, Brittnee, the beloved great-grandfather to

Amelia and Conrad. Fond and loving kid brother to Dorothea

(Dolly) Luciano. Greg was a long-time fan of Old Time Radio,

an insatiable reader, and freelance writer of prose and poetry.

He was a good teacher and preacher of the faith. Next to his

Savior, his greatest love was his wife Linda. He hoped to keep

as his motto “Not to my name Lord, but to yours be the glory.

Eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light

shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through

the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Mission Rosary Making Guild Missionaries throughout the world yearn

for rosaries for the faithful they serve. To

paraphrase St. Teresa of Avila, ‘they have no

hands but yours’. Your rosaries are intended

to be used by those unable to pay for them.

They will be treasured perhaps for years, and

will arm Mary’s children with rosaries, not

weapons, for the battle is ultimately spiritual.

Please consider helping spread devotion to the Blessed

Mother and the Rosary – become a ROSARY MAKER.

Every mission rosary goes to some needy mission, at home or

abroad. Both men and women enjoy participating by turning

spare moments into gifts of love and hope for those who

otherwise would not have a rosary. Come Thurs. evening

Oct. 17 at 6:30pm to learn more about the guild and how

simple and affordable it is to make rosaries. For more information

or questions, text Cynthia Pelkowski at 404.409.6131.

Pray the rosary daily! Help others to do the same.
