Sing, dance, play, get crafty and connect
Together parent and child (aged 2 to 6 years welcome) engage
in a one-hour play and craft program. First parents learn toengage their children in playful circle time activities and songs
that promote attachment lasting approximately one half hour.
After a short break, the room will be set up with open ended
crafts, and hands-on experiences for parent and child to
explore together; the focus of the group is on having fun while
connecting with your child through a variety of experiences.

Provided by Community Neighbourhood Services,

Kids in the Kitchen is a hands-on, information packed program
for children in Grades 5 & 6, which shows participants they can
eat low-cost healthy meals that are easy to make with most
ingredients found in any kitchen. The participants prepare their
own meals, and then on the nal week, they prepare and serve
dinner to their guests: family and friends!

Teddy Bear First Aid, for children aged 4 to 8 years
Provided by Child Safe Canada
This interactive rst aid class teaches young children the basics
of rst aid: checking for safety, calling for help, and caring for
injured people. The kids will learn how to sling arms, deal with
bleeding, burns, scrapes and choking. Children are very able
to learn rst aid when presented in a fun, interactive manner.
Children will deal with a mock emergency scenario with teddy
bears and dolls. The participants will go through the three stepsof rst aid and apply the required rst aid, slings, band-aids,
etc. to the stuffed toys and dolls. Please Note: Don't forget your
teddy bear or favourite doll!

Strangers and Dangers, for children aged 4 to 8 years
Provided by Child Safe Canada
This one-hour fun-lled workshop teaches children and theirparent/caregiver vital personal safety skills. Children learn what
to do if theyre lost, and who to seek out if they need assistance
as well as skills for dealing with luring and bribes. The course is
fun and interactive and ensures that children retain their new
skills and keep SAFE!

If you answered yes to any of the above, then this group
just might be for you! This program is suitable for any youth
between the ages of 13 and 18. Please note: you dont need to

Provided by the Immigrant Youth Outreach Project at CalgaryCatholic Immigration Society
For Immigrant Youth, aged 15 to 24, this homework group
offers high school tutoring and English language support. We
also offer recreational activities, eld trip opportunities and
employment help. All our services are free and snacks and
transit tickets are available, if necessary.

If you are a student aged 6 to 12 years, and you are interested
in learning more about the wonderful world of native art and

Program. The classes are taught by Gordon Lawlor an artist
who has art pieces all over the world and more than thirty
years experiences as an artist. You will work with a variety of
art mediums. You will have the opportunity to sculpt, paint andsketch while learning about aboriginal traditions.

Mentoring Programs
Provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area
These programs are for children and youth aged 6 to 17 years.Adult mentors (Bigs) spend one-to-one time together with a
child or youth (Little) doing activities such as making crafts,
playing games, learning sports, creating art, chatting and
learning new things. After being carefully matched based on
personality and shared interests, Bigs and Littles meet once
a week. Community-based matches meet for two to ve
hours in the community where they live, including Greater
Forest Lawn. There are a variety of programs available to meet
the availability and interests of Bigs and Littles including:
Recreation Mentoring, Youth Inclusive Neighbourhoods,
Community Based and many more. If you are interested
in joining the Mentoring Program, or if you want moreinformation, please call ChiVi and set up an appointment to
visit him during his Family Place scheduled meeting times.

Learning Club

The Learning Club is a FREE 8 week one-on-one homework
support program for children ages 5 to 13 years living in the
Greater Forest Lawn area. Volunteers will help children in the
areas of math, reading, writing and science and parents play an
active role communicating the learning needs of their children
and ensuring homework is brought to the program.

Media and Hip-Hop Project on Anti-Bullying,
for Youth aged 14 to 20 years
Provided by Greater Forest Lawn Youth Arts Action (YAA)
Explore the art of media making and how to use
it to end bullying. Delve into everything from shot composition,
lighting, camera work, audio, editing, post-production, and
creating an exhibition. Learn the art of spoken word/rap to
create impact and share perspectives on the topic. Meet new
people, gain volunteer hours, learn new skills, and have fun! Allfor FREE. The Greater Forest Lawn Youth Arts Action Group is
an initiative of Antyx Community Arts in partnership with the
City of Calgary Community Neighbourhood Services, where
youth have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of
art forms to explore youth-identied topics and issues. This
year, youth have chosen the ongoing issue of bullying. Through
developing leadership skills with the art of media making and
hip-hop, we will explore this issue while working as part of
a team to create and organize projects/events to showcase
work. Youth may choose what role they wish to take on during
the project, those interested mainly with media making may
commit more of their time towards the media production
aspect of the project, and those more interested in hip-hop
may choose to focus on developing the audio and style
of the project.

Cross Cultural Parenting Program
Provided by Calgary Immigrant Womens Association
This is a free program open to all parents and grandparents.
The aim of this program is to help immigrant parents cope with
parenting challenges in a new country and culture. Parents
will learn how to connect their cultural values with Canadian
expectations in order to help their children succeed. Topics
include institutional and social pressures, child discipline,
parenting styles and values, effective communication, and
child development. Program materials are available in English,
Arabic, Chinese, Dinka, Korean, Spanish, Urdu, and Vietnamese

Making Anger Work for You
Provided by Calgary Family Services
The goal of this workshop is to help participants challenge
their negative thought processes and learn appropriate ways
to express their feelings. Often anger is a front for other
feelings like sadness, frustration, loneliness or powerlessness.
By becoming aware of the underlying emotion, participants
can learn to change how they view and describe events.
Participants will learn: to think, plan and choose before
reacting; to practice new skills through role play; to rediscover
how humour can alleviate many of life's stresses; to improve
their relationships with co-workers, bosses, friends, children
and partners; to challenge themselves and take charge of their
emotions in a new way. This group is for individuals over the
age of 18. There is a cost for this program, however, subsidiesare available. All are welcome, regardless of the ability to pay.
