When we think about the fall, the new Jewish year that’s upon us, the changing leaves and the start of school are some of the first things that come to mind.

And that new school year has particular meaning this year for JCC Rockland, as we begin our new early childhood education program in the Deborah Koenig Early Childhood Center. It is the only full-day Jewish program in Rockland County, meant for families seeking a full-time program for children as young as six weeks old.

We’re proud of launching this new program, which will provide a warm, nurturing program to young families, infused with Jewish values, yet inclusive of the entire community.

Those are the values of the JCC. We take them seriously, even when we’re having fun. And they carry through all that we do, whether you attend a program in our Russin Fitness & Wellness Center; the children’s sports programs, our many cultural offerings and community outreach efforts.

On Sunday Sept. 7, we’ll be hosting Rock the Block, a community block party featuring family activities throughout the day. Synagogues and other non-profits will host booths and we expect this to be a fun-filled day for all.

As the days grow shorter and autumn is in full swing, the JCC offers more cultural programming than ever. Our Festival of Arts, Books & Culture, sponsored by Micki and Jim Leader, gets underway on Sunday, Nov. 2 and continues through the month. Highlights include an Israeli-American fashion show, author readings, and a comedy night.

We’re thrilled to be hosting the annual Chazen Jazz Concert, on Saturday evening, Dec. 6 at Rockland Community College. The concert, sponsored by Simona and Jerry Chazen, will feature Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, a big band that has appeared at Lincoln Center and the Newport Jazz Festival and done Grammy-winning work on the television series, “Boardwalk Empire.”

Culture isn’t limited to the grown ups among us. Little ones can get into the act at our annual Koenig Family Chanukah Concert and Celebration takes place on Sunday, Dec. 14. This year we welcome The Macaroons, who invite children and parents alike to

“go coconuts” over their super-fun melodies.

Whatever your tastes –in music, film, books or performance – JCC Rockland offers the best. And know that whether your tastes run to comedy, or serious film, silly kid’s music or swing time jazz, there’s something on this fall’s calendar for you to enjoy.

JCC Rockland represents many different things to many different people. Some think of us as a second home, a place to meet new friends, a way to stay active and healthy and a foundation for our children’s future. It is all this and more and we invite you to consider joining as a founding member of our Legacy Society.

Legacy Society Membership Benefits:

• You are a part of the woven fabric that is our extended family, setting an example to others that unity is an integral part of community.

• Your name will appear on the Legacy Wall, prominently located in the lobby.

• Your name will appear on the Legacy Society Page on the JCC Rockland Website.

What defines a life well lived and remembered?

The answer is simple, not what you have accumu-lated throughout your years, but rather what you have given back. Your life insurance, IRA or your estate planning is your legacy, all powerful tools for sustaining community.

This is a simple modification or addendum that will ensure our Jewish Community Center thrives for years to come. We encourage you to contact your legal or tax advisor as you begin to explore this option and we can provide you with answers for these easy methods, as well.

Make a gift of life insurance

You can contribute a larger amount to JCC Rockland than you might otherwise have thought possible with a simple change in beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy or the purchase of a new policy, naming JCC Rockland as the beneficiary

Make a gift from your IRA or estate

Making a gift from your IRA or estate by including JCC Rockland as a beneficiary will encourage future generations about the importance of our Jewish heritage.
