FSUCU Merger Approved by Members!

Due to Hurricane Sally our special meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, 2020,was postponed to Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at 6:00 PM CDT. It was held at the Main Offi ce of GPCE Credit Union, 200 N. Pace Blvd., Pensacola, FL. Members were notifi ed of the meeting change viapostcards, the website, phone messages, and fl yers displayed at branch locations and were able tosubmit their ballots as late as the extended meeting date of September 29, 2020.

Presiding over the meeting was Attorney at Law, John DeLoach. He was joined by offi cials from GPCE Credit Union, Anita Cooper, CEO, and Joel Moye, Chairman of the Board, as well as offi cials from FSU Credit Union, Chuck Adcock, CEO, and Dr. Stacy Sirmans, Chairman of the Board.Management and credit union staff were also present.

Members were informed of the purpose of the special meeting then, were encouraged to ask questions.Our voting process was explained, followed by a call to vote. After all the ballots were offi ciallycounted, the determination of the voting outcome was announced. The meeting was adjourned thereafter. GPCE Credit Union and FSU Credit Union are pleased and very excited to announce themerger of our two credit unions was approved by the membership! The merger is offi cial effectiveOctober 1, 2020. We look forward to a bright and strong future together. Our combined credit union families will create new opportunities and provide more benefi ts and services for our members. COVID-19 Pandemic Creates Higher Risk of Fraud

The NCUA recently sent out a mass risk alert message (20-RISK-02) to all credit unions warning them of increased scams associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. These scam types include new account fraud, identity theft, cybersecurity, risks, imposter and money mule schemes, and mobilebanking application fraud.

The NCUA informed credit unions of the most commonly attempted fraud schemes and detailed information about evolving trends associated with the pandemic. The NCUA also encouraged credit unions to report any attempts of fraud related to COVID-19.

The risks don’t stop there. Consumers are feeling the side-eff ects of this virus too. The Federal Trade Commission is one organization that has been providing consumers important information and materials since early February 2020 related to COVID-19 scams. It should be no surprise that people will take advantage of others if possible. Especially during these diffi cult and unsure times.

GPCE Credit Union members may also be vulnerable to the risks of fraud associated with the pandemic. Federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warn people to guard against fi nancial scams related to COVID-19. Members are encouraged to contact GPCE Credit Union if they suspect any forms of fraud associated with their accounts.

Members can contact the FBI to fi le a fraud report at https://www.ic3.govhttps://www.ic3.gov or contact the IRS at irs.govirs.gov for the latest information on new scams and schemes. For fraud prevention tips and free resources members can also contact the FTC at ftc.gov/idtheftftc.gov/idtheft. GPCE Credit Union takes fraud seriously.
