The Office of Institutional Research is pleased to present the Fall 2019 John Jay College of Criminal

Justice Fact Book.

The data presented herein reflects the John Jay College student population in their journey towards

earning their credentials if degree- or certificate-seeking. Metrics such as retention rates,

graduation rates, credentials awarded reflect activity of John Jay College "home" institution students

while at John Jay College. "Home" institution students are those students whose primary college of

enrollment is John Jay (i.e., excludes permit-ins).

This year, there is one minor change to the data reported. The UAPC no longer process applications

for all of CUNY to then share across colleges. They had been generating a conditional admit code for

those applicants to a CUNY comprehensive college. As each college now processes their own

admissions data, this code is no longer available to John Jay College. Therefore, New Freshmen data

can no longer be reported on conditional admits.

All of the data in this Fact Book are extracted from the CUNY Institutional Research Database of

the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Budget,

Finance, and Information Services, The City University of New York.

1 Data represents John Jay College "home" students only.

3 Credential-seeking undergraduate students is defined as any undergraduate seeking an associates, bachelors or certificate.

4 Excludes internal transfers which are reported under "continuing" students.

2 Total calculations are based upon an unduplicated headcount. Students in dual degree programs (e.g., BA/MPA) are only counted once,

at the level and program they are in as of that fall term.

TABLE 5. FIRST-TIME BACCALAUREATE DEGREE-SEEKING

FRESHMEN & NEW TRANSFERS

3 Cohort N reflects consecutive John Jay College "home" institution enrollment (i.e., those that enrolled at John Jay College in the spring term, immediately following the fall term of entry),

and subsequently took courses in the summer term (at any CUNY institution) following the spring term.

RATE OF PROGRESS1

Percentage and number of first-time freshmen and new transfer2 baccalaureate degree-seeking students taking 1 or more courses

the summer after entry3

Average number of credits earned by full-time first-time freshmen in baccalaureate programs in the first 12 months (fall, spring and

summer terms)5

1 Ns reflect an unduplicated headcount of John Jay College "home" institution students, that entered in the fall term indicated, as either a first-time freshmen or new transfer (excludes

internal transfers), seeking a bachelors degree (no associates, certificates or non-degree).

4 "Regular Admit" is defined as excluding ESL and SEEK students; "Conditional Admit" is defined as students that are not full admit status at the start of the first term enrolled.

5 Cohort represents only first-time, full-time, baccalaureate-seeking John Jay College "home" Institution enrollment in the spring term at John Jay College immediately following the fall term

of entry. Students enrolled earning zero credits are included in the dataset and credit hours average calculation. Average credits are computed for the full 12 month enrollment period (i.e.,

fall, spring, summer) whether or not the student chose to enroll in summer term courses at John Jay College or another CUNY institution for credit.

1 Data represents a duplicated headcount of master's degree-seeking John Jay College "home" institution students that entered John Jay College as new graduate students (excludes graduate

transfers). Disaggregated program numbers may not sum to totals due to the existence of "unclassified" student enrollments at the time of cohort establishment.2 Data represents a duplicated headcount of masters degree-seeking John Jay College "home" institution students that graduated within 4 years of fall term entry with any master's degree in any

major. 3 Due to a data entry issue at the time of program enrollment, some Forensic Psychology MA/JD program students are being mistakenly "enrolled" under the Forensic Psychology MA program codes,
