Parent Leadership Team Purpose
To advance our growth into maturity in Christ in our parenting and leadership of our families
by partnering with like-minded parents to support, encourage and inspire one another
toward love and good deeds.
WE GROW BETTER TOGETHER ~ Ephesians 4
Parent Leadership Team: Our WHY
WE GROW BETTER TOGETHER ~ Ephesians 4
Parent Leadership Team: Our WHY“I am in prison because I belong to the Lord. Therefore I urge you who have been chosen by God to live up to the life to which God called you. Always be humble, gentle, and patient, accepting each other in love. You are joined together with peace through the Spirit, so make every effort to continue together in this way…
And Christ gave gifts to people—he made some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to go and tell the Good News, and some to have the work of caring for and teaching God’s people. Christ gave those gifts to prepare God’s holy people for the work of serving, to make the body of Christ stronger. This work must continue until we are all joined together in the same faith and in the same knowledge of the Son of God. We must become like a mature person, growing until we become like Christ and have his perfection…
…Speaking the truth with love, we will grow up in every way into Christ, who is the head. The whole body depends on Christ, and all the parts of the body are joined and held together. Each part does its own work to make the whole body grow and be strong with love.”
~ Ephesians 4:1-3, 11-13, 15-16 (NCV)
WE GROW BETTER TOGETHER ~ Ephesians 4
Parent Leadership Team: Our WHYWe’ve been chosen by God .. so let us live up to the life to which God called us.
We are joined together with peace through the Spirit, so let us make every effort to continue together in this way.
Jesus gave us gifts – let us use them to prepare God’s people for the work of serving –to make His body stronger.
Let us become mature, growing until we become like Christ.
Let us speak the truth with love, so we will grow up in every way into Christ.
Let each of us do our own work to help His body grow and be strong with love.
~ based on Ephesians 4:1-3, 11-13, 15-16 (NCV)
Parent Leadership Team: Core Convictions
We believe that as parents, our children are our #1 ministry.(top priority of people we are to love, lead and shepherd in Christ, followed by our extended family, our spiritual family and the lost.)
We carry this calling deeply in our hearts and surrender this ministry constantly to Him, asking His Spirit to lead us in carrying out His will.
We believe God’s word makes clear that this ministry of parenthood, and the consequent maturing of the family of God, is to be carried out within the body of Christ, His church.
We envision this group being one way to advance and fully live out these beliefs.
Parent Leadership Team: Practical Applications
With these two convictions in mind, we’ve set out to form this parent leadership team.
We seek to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” in growing and maturing together through more intentional parenting and leadership of our families.
We believe that it starts with us as parents and we’re setting out to examine ourselves in order to grow and mature in 3 practices:
Intentional ParentingIntentional FriendshipsIntentional Mentoring
Intentional Parenting
Intentional Parenting
Questions we’re asking of ourselves, discussing with our spouse and sharing with our community of faith:
Q: How do we as a couple help each other be intentional in our parenting? Are we regularly coaching one another? …. Reminding and encouraging one another on opportunities to connect with our teens on a heart level?
Q: Do we have a discipling / mentoring couple whom we go to for parenting help? Are we making the most of those opportunities to get advice, help and training? How’s that going?
(“Mentors” in this sense here can and should also include the bible studies, books, articles, blogs and other media/resources we go to for help and training.)
Intentional Friendships
Intentional Friendships
Questions we’re asking of ourselves, discussing with our spouse and sharing with our community of faith:
Q: How are we doing connecting with like-minded parents to build friendships, share stories, compare notes, seek input and learn from one another?
Q: How well are we doing in helping steer our kids towards friendships with “good company / good character” friends?
Intentional Mentoring
Intentional Mentoring
Questions we’re asking of ourselves, discussing with our spouse and sharing with our community of faith:
Q: What do we believe about the importance of our children having a regular mentor (or two) in their lives? Have we been praying for and serving to facilitate these mentoring relationships for our teens?
Q: Are we currently mentoring any younger brothers or sisters ourselves? Are we having college students, singles and younger marrieds into our home, inviting them into our family life? How’s that going?
Looking Ahead: Communicating & Growing Together
Q: How to best stay in touch? (Could we all use GroupMe for ongoing discussions?)
Q: What would you like to see come of this group?
Q: How often can we commit to getting together like this?
Q: Any other needs to address or general questions?
